  1. I think the audience kind of moaned and there was sort of a "now you going to get, Paula" vibe. Whoopie was her immediate defensive self and barked that plenty of people hit on her and she's not interested. She'll be friendly with those that hit on her but they're not going home with her.

Love Paula's dig!  That was my favorite part today, and Whoopie didn't take it well.  She did a double take before she launched into her indignant/defensive/bragging response.  Paula got a good one in today.

  2. My last soapbox comment. I appreciated Joy mentioning that we need a calm, collected president, not someone who is threatening and bombastic, especially so our children won't get scared. I remember when I was in grade school in the 50's (yes, I'm old), and I lived in Colorado Springs, CO. We were told that the Russians would bomb us first because that was where NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command) was located. For years I worried that I would be nuked, even if I hid under my desk. (!) So would we like to have a hateful, aggressive bully for a president or someone who stays calm and intelligent during a crisis? As they say, Isis would love to have us all shaking in our boots and then start another occupation in Syria or somewhere else in the Middle East. Look how well Iraq worked out for us, spawning Isis, no doubt.

With that, I plan to read no newspapers or watch TV on Thanksgiving. I hope you all have a wonderful holiday.

Oh, I remember doing this in high school!  I'm older. We lined up against a wall because the wall would protect us from the harmful radiation!  Ah, memories. Hope everyone does have a good holiday!

  3. Yes, we are bombing oil facilities but have been dropping notifications to innocent workers to evacaulate first........according to one report.

Evidently this would not work for many hawks.

Of course Raven would get angry and demand bank statements immediately if it was her marble. Joy might look into talking to the marble and installers prior to her insurance.

Did CCB actully say Obama was too calm and telling people to step into the boats and stay calm while the Titantic is sinking - rather than say wildly saying everyman for himself!

Or telling everyone to blame "those people" and to take it out on "them" by any means possible.

  4. I just want to thank everyone for their posts.  It's on here in a few minutes, and I always know what I'm in store for and can laugh as I remember comments on this board.  It helps if I am  yelling at the TV!

  5. When I saw happy 60th birthday I thought. Huh? That can't be right

My math is pathetic, but if her brother was born in 1949 and is her younger brother, wouldn't that make her closer to the 66 mentioned above?

Adding that her brother's age at time of death is listed as 65, but I can't believe that she is older than that.  Strange numbers.

  6. At one point, Whoopi chastised all of them. She said something like, "That is not what I said. That's why we always talk over each other. Because we don't listen." I think that's what I heard. I don't want her to be sick, but I would like a day off from her.

Yes!  I thought I heard her say that.  Well, a little cough, a little sneeze...

  7. Ah, you beautiful dreamer you.  At the risk of breaking your heart, you do know that Santa Claus, The Easter Bunny and The Tooth Fairy aren't real, don't you?  Unicorns aren't real either but you have a better chance of finding one of them than getting "some good work" out of this crew.

    SPOILER ALERT!

  8. Ari333,  the schools are limited in what they can do now.  The idea of taking away a driver's license would be a good one, but the schools have no control over that.  There are many kids under the driving age who are just as defiant as the older ones.  Ironically, this discussion makes me miss my kids.  Many times the kids with whom we battle the most, are the ones we end up liking the most.  If you can handle the situation one on one, it's better for everyone.  The schools have to be able to provide more discipline than they are allowed to do now.

  9. Kenz, thank you.  It was definitely difficult to appear to be calm, and I did not always succeed.  I would love to hear the teacher's side of it, too.

Bubbetv, in the beginning of my career, corporal punishment was applied to kids.  Toward the end, we could not even tap any kids on the shoulder.  The administration told everyone that the teachers/school could be sued.  There were some parents who did sue teachers throughout the district for mistreating their children.

The punishment that could be given is suspension, which doesn't really mean much.  The worst would be expulsion, but that would have to be if the kid hit the teacher, or sold drugs on campus.

  10. Uh, one more comment, and I'll shut up.  It takes a LONG time to to learn how to try to de-escalate these situations, but there are many methods that we try to use to avoid a blow-up on either side.  It doesn't always work, but we can never respond in kind to the student.  The kids lose respect for teachers who lose it in the classroom, too, so everyone loses.  Apparently, five years away from the classroom has not diminished my memories of some of those incidents.  Going to breathe deeply to lower my blood pressure now. Sorry for the rant.

  11. Not that what he did was right or acceptable and I'd be interested to know if either or both were on some sort of prescribed medication

But The kid needs a brain and an attitude adjustment

These security people get into volatile situations all the time and trying to maintain the peace gets harder and harder to do because so many assholes are running around who have no regard for authority

attracting quality people to these positions will become more difficult and it's only going to get worse. How ridiculous that teachers and security people et al are forced to deal with the obvious shortcomings of what passes for parenting these days

I think when I see some of this over the top behaviour in these situations its what many of us might do if we found ourselves without training or backup in a tough spot that had the potential to become out of control. Their rush to get the upper hand and try to secure some kind of calm and establish their authority is what goes on every where using weapons Violence and sheer physical strength. These things don't occur in a vacuum yet we're all so quick to judge from our comfy couches

I haven't heard the View's  comments yet, but I have to respond to this comment.  I retired after teaching for 40 years in junior and senior high schools.  We saw the same defiance and more from some students.  They are teenagers who don't think past the moment, and they cannot appear weak to their friends.  When they have an audience, some of the kids feel they have to save face, no matter what consequences they may suffer.  The teachers might be furious, might be cussing the "child" out in their mind, might have images of what they would like to do in response, but we know that we are adults, so we count to a million before acting.  When we get home, we might yell at the walls, floor, chairs, but we have to remain calm in class.  Despite any of the teen attitudes, I loved them and loved teaching.

Meant to add that there is no excuse for what that officer did, and I flinch each time I see it.

  12. Ann Coulter won't intimidate Joy at all.  Ann used to visit Joy's HLN show and, even though they have different philosophies, they actually get along pretty well and make interesting TV together.  From the looks of it, this may be the highlight of the week!

Ooooooo, I love me some Clark Gregg, but if they do just a remote from Comic Con (as I suspect they will), it'll be just wasted time.

Joy is the only one I have seen who is able to deal with Coulter and use humor while doing it.  Her interviews are the only time I can stand listening to Coulter, too.

  13. As a retired teacher, I had to laugh at Carson's recommendation of a diversionary tactic.  Our school discussed the idea of teachers having guns years ago, and we imagined a scenario in which the person with a gun would burst into the room.  We decided that we would tell the gunman to wait a few minutes while we unlocked the cabinet to retrieve the gun.  The issue of being able to aim a gun was also considered.  We concluded that it was a dangerous, insane idea , and hoped nobody would bring up the idea again.  I still believe the concept belongs in the film, Dr. Strangelove.

  14. Cosmocrush,  not sure if I messed up the post within a post,  I'm still laughing at your original creations!  Cannot believe she actually said that with a straight face and kept thinking I didn't hear her correctly!

    Yup, I messed it up.

  15. Haha!  That was my favorite part today mongoose!  I even rewound it.    It's the moment I knew Paula was made for  this show.  I think she should consider these similar points for the table:

Just because someone can't speak, doesn't mean they can't be on a talk show.

Just because someone can't read off a monitor, doesn't mean they can't be the moderator.

Just because someone refuses to be a team player doesn't mean they can't be part of a co-host panel talk show.

Just because someone works for ABC News doesn't mean the morons at the table will be nice to you.

I feel like Amy Robach has been on this show more than once before talking about this exact same thing, so I skipped it.

Why was Lupita Nyong'o on this show?  Someone on her team must have dropped a ball.  But I liked that Raven knows the difference between real acting talent and The Disney Channel.

  16. Delurking to comment.  Paula's response to Kevin McCarthy's speaking problem: Just because someone can't speak doesn't mean they can't govern.

Just checking to make sure I heard that correctly.  So glad this forum is here as I have lurked ever since the beginning.

  17. Lurking since this forum was created and just joined to make a quick comment.  I enjoy reading all the observations because they are all so well thought out.  The remarks about Heather's use of mama, holla or other words are what made me want to join.

There are so many words that people have already appropriated and used in everyday conversation and have become part of everyone's culture.  Phrases such as 24/7,  my bad are ones that come to my mind as I write.  These phrases have made the transition from one culture to another, and nobody seems to mind or object to the uses of the words.

This was just a quick observation that I wanted to interject into the discussion of Heather's language.
