there is something seriously wrong with Jill. Stupidity, Immaturity, lack of common sense, total apathy...not a good combination. She appears to severely lack motherly instincts.   If Sam busted his face on the counter, would she feel like it was her fault? or would she blame Sam for not knowing better?

No, she’d probably blame whichever lost girl was billeted to raise her kids for her before Derick ruined that sweet deal.

I think there are two main issues with Jill. First, she never had normal mothering modeled for her once she was old enough to understand it. What is mothering, really? It’s feeding and clothing your kids, bathing them, potty-training them, playing with them, supervising them, teaching them, protecting them. Michelle gave up doing all of these things the second Jana was able to start doing them for her. From then on, the extent of Michelle’s mothering was gestating and birthing children. Once they were out, she didn’t do anything for them. As far as motherhood is concerned, she’s not that different from a sea turtle.

So that’s what Jill saw. A bunch of feral kids being loosely herded by older feral kids while Michelle sat on her ass with a cup of Starbucks. And that’s where the second problem comes in. Jessa, Jinger, and Joy all seem (and i’m emphasizing the “seem” because all we really know about this is what they put on Instagram) to have been able to overcome their upbringing and become somewhat decent parents. Jill hasn’t. I don’t know if that’s because she’s stupider or more depressed or has a less supportive partner or what. But for whatever reason, she just doesn’t get it. I honestly don’t think that she understands that a good parent wouldn’t let their two-year-old balance on a wheeled vehicle so he could stare at a hot electrical appliance. I think if Sam had fallen down and needed stitches and people were calling her out on how stupid it was of her to let him do that she would have been genuinely flummoxed. After all, in her experience mothers let their kids do that kind of thing all the time.

There is a picture here of the baby "napping" on her stomach still wearing the headband. I don't know much about babies, but I would think that would be crazy dangerous to put a baby to bed in one of those things.

I hope it was just a photo shoot and the baby was sleeping and they set her down like that for a minute for a photo.

It’s also dangerous to let a newborn sleep on her stomach, because it increases the risk of SIDS. New moms are taught “Back to Bed” for at least a year.

Abbie should know that, though, so I think it probably was a staged photo.

I think it's just the fact that he looks young for his age. She looks like a typical high school girl to me.

She looks like she’s in her 20s to me. And even in the fundie world I doubt women that age are lining up to meet the Duggar Everyone Forgets. Plus they are very close together for a courting couple. I’m guessing she’s a relative.

Yes, but Israel is still pre-Kindergarten age. I'm more concerned with his lack of socialization and opportunities for hands-on activities than the lack of a consistent schedule and occasional flashcards or worksheets. Especially since he can already read.

Well, Jill says he can read.

I don't know if Jinger has an eating disorder or not, but she is definitely careful of what she eats. In an episode where they were at the TTH, everyone is eating ice cream and she discreetly transfers half her ice cream into Jeremy's bowl. When the sisters made spaghetti and meatballs for everyone, Jinger had a meatball and a big plate of salad. When she and Jeremy went for fajitas in Laredo, she had not tortillas. So she is very mindful of her weight? health? figure? She looks thin, but healthy to me. Of course, I eat everything in sight! And yes, I did pay that much attention to her food, cause I always notice food.

All the older Duggar girls are thin. I think Jana’s even thinner than Jinger, and Jill, Joy and Jessa aren’t very much bigger than she is. I don’t think any of them look unhealthy. It’s interesting that the second wave of Duggar girls, except Josie, are a bit plumper and look healthier than the older girls did at their age. That suggests to me that a lot of the older girls are probably slim partially because they suffered from caloric malnutrition. The rest of it is probably internalized nonsense from Gothard via Michelle about how thinness equates to godliness.

It sounds like Jinger is doing Atkins or Keto or some kind of low-carb eating plan.

I know for a fact that she uses some type of exercise video at home.  I could hear the instructor’s voice and Jinger breathing heavily, like she was exerting herself.

Jeremy has said Jinger works out every day, and they have some workout equipment (barbells, etc.) at home.

I don't know when the season starts, but Jinger may need to announce if she is pregnant depending on when she's due.

If she's pregnant, they've probably been waiting to announce until after the holidays and when Abbie had her baby.

That picture seems to be teasing an announcement.

Of course except for the die-hard fans I get the sense nobody will care too much. Most people just assume one of the Duggars is always pregnant.

I don’t think the picture is teasing anything, although I think it’s weird that they’re just now sharing pictures from a month ago. There have been pictures of Jinger taken since this picture in which she doesn’t look pregnant *at all,* much less pregnant enough to need to camouflage it with a loose dress. Unless she has since secretly had the baby and they’re keeping it in a closet until they need a really big Instagram reveal, I don’t think she was visibly pregnant when these photos were taken.

I never ordered from the "children's" menu when my kids were Felicity's age.  All that faux, processed, breaded and fried crap, where kechup was considered a vegetable, was a waste of money and incredibly unhealthy.

And trying to make kids adhere to the usual adult food schedule can sometimes be unhealthy for them too.  My peds always told me to give them several small meals throughout the day, so if husband & I were out to eat, they may have already eaten.  You can't just make all toddlers magically adapt to a 3-meal a day schedule the way adults can.

And servers that get off on tattling about other's eating habits are just looking for attention.  I usually give them a credibility score of about a 2.   Idiots.

Nowadays kids’ menus are different. The main courses are still generally things like chicken nuggets, hamburgers, and Mac and cheese, but they include options for fruits and vegetables as sides, and you can get milk instead of juice/soda. That said, we didn’t start ordering off the kids’ menu until Mini Mistake was 3, because it would have been a waste of money to do so earlier since she would have eaten two bites, gotten full, and refused to touch the leftovers. Felicity is what, 18 months? I think it would have been weird if they had ordered her something off the kids’ menu. I do think they would have shared their food with her, however, or brought something else for her to eat.

I was rather suspect of the story myself.  Especially when I read the comments and the OP thought it was so strange that Jer did the ordering.  I would think that a wait person with even a minimal amount of experience would know that's a thing.

I also very much doubt they would go to a restaurant, order food for themselves, and refuse to give Felicity anything to eat. First of all, I think they actually like their child, and second, someone who knows who they are might see and it might end up in In Touch.

If Derick wants this lawyer thing to work out, he needs to work on his wording.  "So they just inserted other sisters from the home" sounds like someone went to a nursing home full of retired nuns and just stuck a few here & there.  If he needs help with some bigger words, he can call RFP.  He seems to have all the words.

“Jinger, you’re next to Sister Mary Margaret. Watch out for her ruler, she’s got a wicked swing.”

If it were just the prices, that would be one thing, but the menu looks like it was created by someone on crack and has no clear rhyme or reason.

The fact that Dillon's restaurant's opening has been delayed for months as he bumbles his way through issues with the name and other factors also makes me seriously side-eye the prices. If his food was really good, he'd probably get away with it, but as is, I don't have great confidence in his ability to do anything.

And truthfully, if the restaurant were in Fayetteville or Bentonville, I'd still think it was a little overpriced, but it would be nowhere near as incongruous as it being in Springdale and hyped as some sort of glamour lounge and charging those prices. Springdale is the kind of place where people move a few miles from their place in Springdale, so they can tell people they live in Rogers rather than Springdale. Fairly or unfairly, it's considered the armpit of NWA.

He also misspelled avocado. Perhaps I’m an elitist jerk, but it really bugs me when restaurants can’t spell something they’re giving me to eat. It makes me doubt the quality of the food. Would you pay $11 for “cheez gritz,” for example? I mean, even Cracker Barrel can spell its menu correctly.

Seriously! And who took this picture of them? Maybe my Home Depot isn't as social media savvy, but I've never seen any of the construction guys in there pausing to take a staged pic.

    I think that’s actually a Lowe’s.

The fact that this is the most interesting thing I can find to comment on in this thread speaks to how mind-numbingly boring these people are.

What is he wearing? Did he lose the bottom half of his gangster suit in transit?  The woman on the right looks the best dressed for that occasion.  Jing looks like a flight attendant for long defunct TWA.

The jacket doesn’t fit, either. It’s too small. I think he’s gained some weight from all of those foodie adventures and is too vain (or too poor) to buy new clothes.

I Googled Allie Stuckey. She’s got the same abhorrent beliefs as the Duggars, but seems to be more vocal about them. And I’m sorry, but that picture makes her look like she’s got a face like a mud rail fence.

I don’t think they spend much money on Felicity.  She rarely wears a new outfit or new shoes.  I’m not in any way saying that’s a bad thing.  I personally think it’s ridiculous to buy a lot of new clothes for a child that will outgrow them quickly.  I’m simply making the point that I believe most of their money is spent on Jeremy first, then Jinger, then Felicity gets what’s left.  Of course all of this is just my assumption.

Why do you think her clothes aren’t new? The kid’s wardrobe is better than mine. Those look like primarily designer or at least high-end department store brands. She’s not shlubbing around in Walmart or Old Navy originals like her cousins. Not that there’s anything wrong with that — I love Old Navy — but her clothes don’t look like her parents skimp on them.

I know 4 families on Samaritan...the older man 60ish...diagnosed with lymphoma...paid it all...and people sent extra money to help with his lymposmal vitamin c tx...he has been cancer free 2 years...and as far as I know none of the other family members had to pay anything....

Okay, but the plural of anecdote is not data. It sounds like the company itself acknowledges that it won’t cover everyone. I hope very much that a young mother with six children isn’t depending on them to keep her alive.

This kid, at 3 months, is too young for the Haemophilus meningitis vaccine which is usually given around 6 mos. The vaccine is often referred to as hib (Haemophilus influenza B).  This is the kind of bacterial meningitis that strikes little kids.  I worked with a doc whose 18 month old daughter almost died from it and became deaf as a result of the infection.  This was before the vaccine.  Of course, the best way to prevent it in kids too young to be vaccinated is to be sure the other kids in the household are immunized, so it is possible they are anti-vaxxers.

There is also meningococcal meningitis which strikes teens and young adults, particularly those living in close quarters like dorms and military barracks.  Kids get vaccinated against that in middle school, around age 11.

(Sorry, didn’t see this had already been addressed.)

Has Jill posted an update about the baby? I hope she’s doing okay.

Another signal things are changing — she now posts about “friends,” not “sweet friends.”

I just don't get it. What's the point? Ski pants are already thick and wide enought

    Stupid people

These down skirts (they aren’t actually called ski skirts because, well, no sane person wears them skiing) are actually really practical in a cold climate. They weren’t designed for “modesty” purposes. The long ones are warmer than ski pants, you can wear them over things you couldn’t easily wear ski pants over (like skirts and dresses), and they’re easier to put on and take off. They were a huge fad where I live about five years ago.

I think it’s ridiculous that the Bates girls actually have to wear them skiing. I feel like somewhere in her quest to be the holiest Gothard housewife Kelly lost the plot a bit.

True, there’s pneumococcal at 2 months that could possibly help protect against contracting some strains of bacterial meningitis and other bacterial infections. It’s the first of 4 rounds over a 15 months period, so they wouldn’t be fully protected yet.

What gets confusing is that there are a number of bacterial strains that can cause meningitis. In infants, two common strains are streptococcus pneumoniae and haemophilus influenzae type B. We can vaccinate against those, and both the pneumococcal and HiB vaccines are routinely recommended for infants. The actual meningococcal vaccine isn’t recommended for children until they turn nine (although it can be given as early as seven years of age in cases where children are medically fragile or exposed to an outbreak).

In any case, a 3-month-old baby would only have had one dose of each of these vaccines, and both of them require 4 doses for complete protection. Even if Jill’s friend’s baby had been vaccinated according to the CDC schedule, she could still have gotten sick, so there’s really no point in speculating about her vaccination status. I just hope the baby is getting vanco in addition to prayers.

As a nurse and a mom, I am staunchly pro-vaccine. I truly hope that Jill and Derick are vaccinating their boys, and that the rest of the family are vaccinating their children as well. If money is an issue, most public health clinics will vaccinate for free or at very low cost.
