  1. I'm a hundred percent certain that Jim Bob is an extremely determined, master manipulator. And I think he probably decided pretty early on that he'd turn his manipulative powers on Derick, whom he probably saw as serving some of his purposes. ....

Plus, I think we're all pretty sure that Derick was emotionally/spiritually drifting a bit for some reason when he first got in touch with JB. And being in a confused or possibly somewhat depressed? state can really dim your perceptions, especially when it comes to people's behavior. I also expect that Derick had never been well acquainted with any serious manipulators before, so he didn't really have an eye out for this. .... And he just missed it. He didn't have the benefit of watching the whole play from outside but was inside, having the full force of Jim Bob's purposes turned right on him, and he went into it with an apparent hunger to get some of his needs met. Then, after he got together with Jill, he couldn't turn to her to confirm any suspicions or strengthen him, since she's full of Kool-aid up past the eyebrows.

He looks to me like just a regular, somewhat naive young guy who got caught up in the web of a much older nut that he just wasn't prepared by nature or experience to deal with. It's really pretty hard to take on your new in-laws in a knock-down, drag-out fight so early on, I'm betting. Especially when Jim Bob does a damned good job of keeping his nefarious nature shrouded and would probably have plausible deniability in the eyes of everybody else around. Derick's mom was sick and probably didn't have the sharpest eye at the time, either. I'm really glad he grabbed his family and left the country. It's probably not the ideal solution. But given the position he found himself in, I think it may have been the best he could manage at the time.

I wonder what it portends for the rest of Derick's lifetime relationship with the Duggars, I must say.

I think you are 100% right.

  2. Anna is probably the one who could escape the easiest. She has sisters on the outside. I bet her parents would take her home. Maybe not but I just feel that her parents would...

I wish...but she's stuck. The only option she has is standing by her man & continuing to make M babies. Leaving Josh & the lifestyle, no matter how miserable it is, would never occur to her. Ever.

  3. I think Shannon is definitely a weirdo, but that fake fight Meghan tried to start was unbearable to watch.  I hate how often the new housewives turn the show into a self parody with an imagined slight and confrontation.  Next time, reschedule the trip so Vicki can come whoop it up.

    That fight was SO fake.

I hate when Bravo does that.

There's something about Shannon that I like. I don't think she's as kooky as she's made out to be. Maybe that's her way of staying relevant?

  4. I do like Jessa's mean girl vibe, it's a nice change from keeping it sweet, i can't stand overly nice people, especially if they seem to be trying too hard/faking it.

And i don't think she's "mean" like the family hints at either. She's probably mean by compassion to her kool-aid chugging sisters. She seems more no nonsense to me, like a business woman. Then again, maybe she is a bitch, i don't know her welll enough to judge.

I agree, Dill. I don't follow her Instagram, so maybe I'd feel differently if I did. I do think she's more articulate than Jill and yes, no nonsense. I wouldn't be surprised now that she's married and out of the TTH, if she has a TV. I'd be happy if she did.

  5. I am a big fan of trade schools. Josh should go for training for plumbing, electronics, welding, mechanics, carpentry, just to name a few. There are a lot of options. Most programs are 1-2 years & affordable. He could certainly make a good living and be able to provide for his family. He might even be able to join a union, which is really where the money is. I know plenty of tradesmen who make a very good living.

  6. Knowing something about pop culture (The Jackson 5!) won't necessarily consign you to the depths of hell.

I don't find the show fascinating, but it's a nice contrast.

We need a little more snark here....their "rendition" of the Jackson 5's ABC was terrible...someone needs to let them know not to remake Motown tunes...no one should.

The vintagey look of a dress with denim vest/jacket & cowboy boots is so 2012.

Otherwise I am enjoying the show.

  7. I watched that episode this evening, would love the YouTube link.

I also caught the "last chance" episode with the woman whose name escapes me. She's the one who was a model back in the day, inherited a lot of money, had tons of clothes but wore pajamas in both episodes. It seems like many of the hoarders will clean if their backs are up against the wall, but this one wouldn't/couldn't do it & lost everything. What a sad waste.

  8. I can't see Majorie surcoming to what MEchelle or even Boob want. She can say my mother wears pants and she is a Godly woman so I will wear whatever I want!

Once they are married, Marjorie will wear skirts. and will be pregnant within months, if not weeks. She is only 17 and will hold up the older sisters as her new role models. Ugh.
