  1. Did the writers really think Sonny saying that his hit victim got down on his knees and begged for his life would make me think less of that victim? And that somehow would lead to a higher regard for Sonny, and by extension, Carly?  Hell no.

NB did do a good job yesterday of breaking when he was talking about missing his father.  But I still think he's a little shit.

Finally! I also saw a trailer for the Big Sick today and that also looks promising. Maybe there is hope..

Ray Romano, beginning with Men of a Certain Age, has consistently surprised me as an actor.  I may try and catch this one.  Whole cast looks good.

  3. You know, the trailer only looks so-so, but I'm hoping Reese Witherspoon's good judgment won out, and this turn out to be better than what I see here.  Heck, I'll take average.  I'm most definitely in the mood for new rom com.

    There's no crying in baseball.

When things get rough and life is beating me up, I say this to myself.  Out loud and everything.  This year has been tough: my dog passed unexpectedly (Seizures out of nowhere caused brain damage and they couldn't bring her back - up until the moment they struck she was a happy, healthy girl.  Until she wasn't.) and then a couple of months later we lost my stepdad.  You know how you have little moments of quiet, like putting away the dishes or sorting laundry - that's when shit hits you out of the blue, ambushes you just when you think you've moved on.  I take a deep breath, say the line and go on about my day.

I love this movie.  I don't rank it when I think of sports films, because I think it's about so much more than baseball and sports. (And I'm a die hard, born in Baltimore Orioles fan.)  It also likely wouldn't make any of my top 20 lists, just in general. But still it's a damn good movie about a special place and time, when some really cool and different people came together and made a family. And a bit of history along the way.

I've just caught up on the thread and as to the question did she drop it on purpose?  Hell if I know.  I've never been able to decide.

ETA: Oh, regarding Jack and the door - it was a weight and balance thing.  When he started to climb on, they began to swamp and the door dipped under the water.  They both would have frozen.  And that's one movie where seeing it once was definitely enough. :-)

ETAA:  Changed my mind for now, maybe later.

  5. Dammit.  Not media but I missed the deadline on The Previouslies to nominate Winston as the character I'd want to be my BFF.  Double dammit.

With the time jump I hope we get wedding flashbacks.  Flashbacks have always been part of the show anyway.  And I want to see Winston (and Ferguson) get married.

  6. I'm watching this show for the first time (have done the first three seasons in about a month) and what Jessica was doing was definitely stealing. Usually I like Jessica with her death stares and schemes, but this was a bit over the line even for sitcom land.

However, those mail sorting boxes - I cracked up when I saw a separate one just for AOL CDs.  Damn, getting those was so annoying!

  7. When I need cheering up one of my go to movies is Happy, Texas.  I haven't met many who've seen it, but I loved Jeremy Northam, Steve Zahn and William H. Macy in this.  Northam for being pretty, Zahn for weird adorableness, and Macy's wistful Sheriff Chappy (I still get a big, wide grin when he gets his happy ending.)

  8. Even though it will all come to naught and  will continue to fall on deaf ears, I loved Joss today.  Stay strong, Joss.  Keep your Sonny hate.  Keep telling truth to Carly.

I kind of loved Scott not knowing how he lives with himself.  Though compared to the Corinthi and the Jeromes he's a paragon of virtue.

So is JPS gone?  I liked him when he wasn't getting teary. I also thought he had chem with MS, which is no easy task.

Would a movie like Hello, My name is Doris perhaps be considered a romantic comedy? I did like it, and Sally is so great.

I really liked this movie, and it felt like a romcom to me.

I miss romantic comedies and have a DVD collection ranging from the 1920's to present day; I think 60-65% probably fall in that genre.  Indies, dramas, action and Pixar / Disney seem to make up the rest. (Hitchcock gets his own category.)

My favorite from the old days (1930"s) would be The Awful Truth.  I also love Talk of the Town (1942); I mean, you get Cary Grant and Ronald Coleman. I can watch any and all of the Hepburn-Tracy movies. And Hepburn-Grant.

As for the 'moderns' - an UO but I think Julia Roberts and Richard Gere have amazing chemistry and wish they would have done more together.  To continue the UO I'd rather see them in Runaway Bride than Pretty Woman. Yeah, I like it.

If I come across The Proposal on TV I cannot skip it.  Same with Two Weeks Notice

    Two more UOs:
     - Hugh Grant has chemistry with anyone and everything; and I think has only gotten better with age.  For me, he was the best part of Florence Foster Jenkins, followed by Helberg, then Streep.
    - I like 27 Dresses.  I own a copy. I don't care that it's Heigl.

  10. I've decided I want Leon and Lena to get together.  She obviously likes him and Leon deserves to be treated well, something Alex and Val seem incapable of doing.  I think they'd be cute and then of course Alex and Val would get all jealous and territorial.  Because that's who they are.

I mainly watch because I like Michaela Watkins but I have grown quite fond of Leon.

  11. I'm watching this show for the first time and just hit this episode - the first "commercial" search engine launched for general web use was Lycos in 1992 and that's the search engine Evan said to use.  I don't know why but that made me happy.  Though others would have existed since they are now in early 1996 since a bunch of them launched in 1995.

I'm really liking this show and am glad I made it one of my summer picks.

That kid was the best part of Trophy Wife, which was a pretty good show overall. Haven't seen Dr. Ken, but my residual love stands for his role here.

I miss Bert.  And Trophy Wife.

Chris Pine's handsomeness is very similar to Montgomery Clift, though I prefer Montgomery Clift.

Monty Clift was just so beautiful.  I remember reading a while back that Matt Bomer was going to play him in a biopic, which apparently is still in development (or stalled.)  If that does come to pass, I think Bomer is a great choice. They both have this ethereal beauty that almost transcends sexuality.  Not that they aren't sexy; I think they are. There's just something... more.  An additional quality I don't know quite how to explain or express.

  13. I  was so pissed the way Cirie was "voted"out I FF to the end to see who won.  Maybe I'll rewatch if I get bored over the summer to see the ins and outs.

Idols, legacies, advantages - too much of them.  To me that's not game play if five people at one tribal can all stand and say "um, Jeff..."  And then one person is out simply because there are no other options.

But, yeah, I'll be back in the fall.  It's Survivor.

  14. We're never going to be rid of that damn song, are we?

So pissed Chief of Staff Monica, Board Member Laura and Doctors Kevin, Lucas (who?) and Finn are not present.  Finn, not because I particularly like him, but he is on staff.  Add to that no Mac and no Robin and you have NOT-The Nurses-Ball 2017.  But of course the room is mobbed up, with a smattering of law enforcement and ex spies.

The whole episode made me cranky.  Well, except for Curtis.  He continues to be so fine. Sigh.

Of course, Moore was awesome as James Bond. Here's one of my favorite Bond scenes, the car chase from The Man With the Golden Gun

I definitely prefer my Bond with tongue firmly in cheek, so I enjoyed Moore's version.  But the best part of that car chase? It starts in an AMC dealership.

    RIP, Sir Roger.

  16. It took me this long, six seasons in, to realize that Andrew physically resembles Anthony Weiner.  I feel so stupid.

Since that's not really specific to this episode:

    - Loved Richard loving to say butterscotch
    - Gary's jealousy, however temporary, of Mike of all people (who may be the saddest sack to ever sack) and the Victory of The Sprite
    -  I need more Kevin Dunn and Gary Cole, preferably away from Jonah.

  17. I was surprised to read that Heathers had an order for an adaptation as a TV series.  I'm going to assume there's major changes, as in drastic.  I saw it back in the day and was really uncomfortable even at that time.  A bomb in a high school, multiple murders of high school kids, and bullying to the point of attempted suicide? That never struck me as funny; not then and not now.

I've never met anyone who didn't like the movie, so I'm a party of one in that I hated it, but I don't think Heathers would be green-lit today.

  18. I think my least favorite story line, for a single episode, was Monica thinking Chandler liked shark "porn."  Well, that might be a tie with Joey trying to learn French. They really went too far with Joey's dumbness the last few seasons.

My least favorite guest star was Sean Penn. The whole thing felt out of sync.

The worst station for watching Friends is MTV.  They speed up the episodes a bit to fit in the commercials; Chandler sounds likes he's on helium.

  19. I admit I teared up a tiny bit when I saw Sheldon on bended knee.  And I may have said to the screen "Say yes!" as they cut to black.  I didn't know that I even wanted, or cared, to hear her accept until they left it as a cliffhanger.

I think it can work over two seasons - Amy and Sheldon have never progressed quickly in any of their relationship steps.

On her wedding day I hope Amy wears a tiara. :-)
