  1. I loved this little show and even though the ending was not a surprise it just felt right.  I don't think there was one character I didn't like; even Merk had his moments.

    Yes, I agree - it's time for a rewatch.

    Kristin Chenoweth

Her presence in a movie or on tv is enough to make me not watch.  It's both her voice and her little girl mannerisms which make her intolerable for me.

That's how I feel about Jennifer Tilly.  So annoying.

I thought Valentin's "Lulu is a bobblehead" was insulting to both the character and the actress.

I could have sworn he said bubble head.  No?  Which admittedly also isn't very nice.

I don't watch with CC (though I should any day MB is on the show.)

    HOLY GROWTH SPURTS BATMAN!!!

I know, right?  The character of Eddie was so freaking tall.  And he's probably not done yet.

Loved the grandmother and Jessica scream fest; usually there's so little they share so it was nice to see them excited together.

Glad this show is back. Now just please get rid of the celebrity names on Cattleman's Ranch.  I want it to belong only to Louis.

  5. No Sonny. Yay!

I liked Ava's earrings.  And now I'm at least wondering whether Bench is supposed to be a good guy or a bad guy.  Though I guess if they are throwing him at Alexis, he's a bad one.

And did Franco's entrance to NotJasonButDrew's room get a different start from the cut-off ending from the previous episode?  Why a bear? Why balloons?

I don't think I even try and analyze the story lines anymore.  I mean, what's the point?

  6. Looks like it's going to a season of big singers, divas, belters, etc.  Which is not my to my taste.  I'm going to give it a few more episodes - there have been a couple of singers with some nuance instead of singing only to the rafters so I have a bit of hope.

Oh my, Jennifer is a big personality isn't she?

He had a short-lived series where he played a cop of some kind. Just checked his IMDB page and he's still working. In fact, there was some sort of Dr. Quinn reunion three years ago that I knew nothing about!

I also checked his IMDB page after I posted - I was kind of musing out loud.  I admit that I haven't heard of any of those titles but am glad he's working.

On topic - Sonny still sucks. Carly is still a hypocrite.  And in yesterday's episode the writing for Anna was just plain weird.

  8. Putting Kristina in a matronly blouse to try and age her up in appearance did not work.  At all.

Probably not going to happen but I wouldn't mind a scene with Jessica Tuck and JDP; that would be a nice nostalgic moment  - at least for me.

And I can't see Jessica in a soap setting and not think of Joe Lando.  I wonder whatever happened to him, after Dr. Quinn?

(Yes, I miss OLTL - that show and GH were my soaps, going back to my college days.)

A special shout out to Mr. Petrov.  Yes, he lived most of his life in relative obscurity but without him it is quite possible the world as we know it would not exist.  It takes a special kind of bravery to show restraint under pressure and he had that kind of courage.  RIP and thank you.

  10. Of the traditional format late night talk shows, and since Letterman retired, I like Jimmy Kimmel  best.  I think he's a talented interviewer and when he gets a dud of a guest seems to be adept at handling that situation.  IMO, Fallon is the worst of the lot at interviews which is why he has to play so many games and have inserted bits. Though Fallon does seem to be a nice guy.

I don't really put Kimmel or the others in the same category as John Oliver since he's primarily commentary.

The scene with him accidentally stumbling across the pile of emaciated corpses still chills me to the bone.

That and the line "Children - it's time to take a shower."  It's a difficult movie to watch, the juxtaposition of parental love pitted against unspeakable inhumanity and unimaginable loss of life.  Now I must go and watch something light; my hands are shaking.

  12. Quote

Concentration camp movies are not lighthearted fun times.

Oh, that wasn't my interpretation of this at all.  Given that the viewpoint of the film was from the memory of the boy as narrator, the audience only knew a few things: 1) what the father wanted his son to see and know in order to protect him, his innocence and a child's natural love for life and 2) the beginning which was the courtship and marriage of his parents which was shot in dreamlike, fantasy colors, very saturated - the only way he would know that part of the story was through his mother's retelling, letting the memory of his father live on through her words.  It was told to the boy with love and gratitude for the life of her child.  The father's sacrifice was total and complete and allowed his son to continue to believe that life is beautiful, the only gift left he had to give during such a horrible time.

The film allowed the realism gaps to be filled in by audience knowledge, from what we all knew was the horror of the camps.  Geez, I'm tearing up just thinking about it.

Anyway, that's what I saw.  I saw no lighthearted fun.  A loving deception, but no fun or comedy.  I put this movie in the tragedy category.

Amadeus did its pre-Broadway tryout at the theatre where I worked and it's one of my fondest memories in my 35 year stint there.  An extraordinary man and talent.

I was in the audience!  As good as the movie was, when I think of Amadeus I see Ian McKellen, Tim Curry and Jane Seymour as the leads.  They were amazing, as was the who;e production even in tryouts.  RIP Peter Hall.

  14. I love a lot of the movies already listed; I'd like to add:

    • Inherit the Wind
    • Witness for the Prosecution
    • Holiday
    • Death Takes a Holiday (1934) (Meet Joe Black destroyed this story - really ticked me off.
    • The Enchanted Cottage
    • Double Indemnity
    • The Egg and I
    • Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House
    • No Time for Love

Yup, there are too many!  So many wonderful old movies out there.

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers was a movie that I held in affection because of its music and dancing but I hadn't actually watched the whole thing in eons until last year.  That's when it hit me that it was kidnapping and Stockholm Syndrome .  I think I'll just stick to clips because it doesn't work for me as a total piece whereas Gigi, regardless of the potentially problematic issues with it, absolutely does.

I'm not a big fan of most musicals, especially dramatic ones (stop singing and call for an ambulance, he/she is dying you twit) but I do love the barn raising dance scene in this. So yes to that as a clip.  The rest, not so much.

  16. Seven Bridges Road, first recorded by Steve Young, then by Ian Matthews.  Matthews laid it down with a five part harmony, singing all the parts himself. (The Ian Matthew's recorded version is my favorite - just gorgeous - I own that album in vinyl and I will never ever let it go.)  It's Matthews arrangement that most people know, except they know it as an Eagles song:

I'll take Anna/Finn scenes because finally the actor is waking up for them.

Agreed.  It's not the same chemistry as Anna/McBain but at least there's something.  Definitely more than with Andre.

Why has not one person given the most natural response to the statement "Jason's been shot," that being "again?"

Sam and Jason need to move into the hospital.  At this point they are just taking turns.

Sonny, please go away.  And see Sam?  Your illness was trying to tell you something - the truth.

  18. It's weird how all of a sudden Carly is friends with everyone; first Sam and now Alexis.  It's not that I like sniping and cat fights - I don't.  It's just there's been no transition, these conversations happen out of nowhere, and it's as if these characters have no past relationships of any importance.

Carly and Alexis could have been members of the same book club who just happened to run into each other.  This show has spent two decades telling me about Carly's attitude towards Alexis and that is Carly thinks Alexis is a liar and hypocrite.

Now Sam needs oh so much about to tell truth to Carly.  And she seems to care deeply about Carly and her feelings; what happened to eye-rolling Sam whenever Carly showed up on hers and Jason's doorstep?  At most, Carly was tolerated.

It all feels odd and unearned.
