  1. I totally thought if was a blow-up doll or something.  Actually said aloud "that doesn't even look like a real person".  To my cat.  Because I am apparently a sad, single, live by myself with cats, person.  I guess I need to go yell at Meredith or something.

If we ever meet in person, I'll buy you a dinner so you don't have to go it alone ;)

For some reason I was really bothered by Nora saying "Max has a girlfriend" in that singsong voice, because it seemed really age-inappropriate to me. Isn't that playground behavior--something you'd see in a school-age child?

I thought the exact same thing, way too young for this.

The only thing I hate more than "buddy" is "little man," especially when "little man" is a baby.

  3. I certainly can't quote anything verbatim, but if the Twitterverse is any indication, he has recently given at least one interview where he apparently gave a lot of people the impression that he was leaving sooner rather than later, and that as grateful as he has been for the opportunity, he is pretty much over the show and would rather be doing almost anything else.  Which, is completely fair, 11 years is a long time, and its not as if he has always been given the best material and he has other stuff going on.  I don't care if he goes or stays, but if he isn't going to say anything concrete, I wish he just wouldn't say anything at all, lest the season get highjacked by yet another "will they stay/will they go" speculation.

I don't follow him on Twitter, but does he often give shout outs to his fellow actors on their performance?  I know that he has always been extremely complimentary toward Ellen, but don't follow his career enough to know what he says about others.  I vaguely remember him not being real happy about the musical (which, I mean, yeah), but his castmates and crew worked really hard on it, regardless of if it was well done or well received.

From his interview, talking about the Dempsey Center, which doesn't sound shitty or passive aggressive to me at least, he said:

"'Anytime I can bring attention to our great cause, I will,' he told the Press Herald. 'It is embarrassing, at times, to have your name up there, because no one individual is responsible for all this. But the reality is, I am visible. Acting [in Grey's Anatomy] has been a blessing for me and has allowed me to do all this. But it's transitional for me right now. I'm looking forward to the next thing, creatively.'

He goes on to say that he'll be leaving "very soon" but that he can't say exactly when yet."

Maybe if the season is "highjacked" by this news it's because he's a fairly important character to some viewers?  Maybe it says a little something about the importance or draw of the other actors/characters? I dunno. I can't imagine a big outcry if Chandra Wilson says she's leaving.

He hardly posts on Twitter, mostly I think because he's dyslexic so when he makes a mistake, he's harshly ridiculed for his spelling. He's consistently said wonderful things about Ellen, Sandra, and Chandra. My comment on the others is that their behavior IS to make comments about great performances. That's all :)

For someone like me, who at this point watches the show for him and for Ellen, it's a disappointment. For others, not so much. Since I can't stand at least three of the remaining characters, Patrick/Derek leaving is a big deal to me because I won't watch for Callie, Maggie, and Amelia, the three whiners.

I wasn't really moved by Derek's man-pain, at least when it came to Meredith. This is kind of what he always does. He makes a decision, then second-guesses it and doesn't know what to do, and wallows, etc. I don't know if this will make Derek go back to DC so that Patrick Dempsey can go back to racing or giving cryptic, passive-aggressive interviews or whatever it is that he does, but I wish they would just get on with it.

Can you point me to one of these passive-aggressive interviews? All I've ever read that he's said is that Grey's changed his life for the better, and that he's grateful for work.

It'll be interesting to see what happens if/when he leaves. I'm more inclined to think he's outta there, or has a reduced schedule. I think his performance last night was one of the best on the show from anyone.

Shame on his cast mates for not having one kind word to say about it last night on twitter. Shame on Shonda especially. The very reason I'll not watch another Shondaland show is that I think she's a vindictive witch.

  5. So much to love and hate about this episode. My hate first:

Dammit, Meredith - you know your husband has had a horrendous day, so what do you do? Go drinking with your buddies while your husband, who is torn up inside, gets to go home with the kids! If only Cristina were there to lay in bed with. I've never said this, or felt it, but right now, you don't deserve Derek.

Amelia - or should I call you A-ME ME ME-lia - you've been treating your brother like crap, so get off your high horse. He made it right, you have your job, and you've probably put the nail in the coffin with your nasty attitude. I hated this character every time she was on the show, and the hate continues, for good reason.

Arizona, can you not grin and smile when giving news to patients' families? It was creepy.

Callie: Who the hell is watching Sofia? Mark is dead, he can't babysit anymore.

    Jo - go away.

    The love:

Alex Karev, you are such a good friend, and the only support Arizona has right now. Plus, you're a kick-ass surgeon. Carry on.

Patrick Dempsey - what a phenomenal performance. Derek is at rock bottom, and he is all alone with no one to support him, and Dempsey played it perfectly.

    Speculation:

And the more I watch, the more I think PD is gone, soon.

  6. So, if Patrick is leaving "very soon," does that mean Ellen is going with him? Unless they kill Derek, I don't see how to have him leave without totally screwing the character - Derek would not leave Meredith and their children. I also wonder if Ellen is also leaving and Meredith goes with Derek - maybe that's the big cliffhanger, and the reason we have "new" Grey and new neurosurgeon?

Once Meredith and Derek go, I'm gone :)

  7. Max is so far out of the range of kids I work with who have Asperger's that I stifle the need to throw things at my television. Good lord. We're dealing with a pre-teen at work now (granted, he has autism), who is becoming out of control as his hormones are creeping into his sweet little body - getting aggressive, more frustrated, etc. I usually tell parents of kids on the spectrum, "One day he's going to be 16 years old and 160 pounds, so you need to get the behavior under control while you can still pick him up to discipline him."

The most amusing part of the episode was Amber holding on to her belly, lest her baby fall out of her - what? Vagina? Belly button? Cracked me up, especially since someone mentioned it on another thread last week.

If I were Drew, I'd dump Grandpa and Girlfriend. "Who cares that you're paying good money for your schooling and you have important exams? For God's sake, Drew, blow it off - G-pa might croak tomorrow! Go shooting! You'll have no good memories of him if you DON'T DO THIS!"

I always root for Joel and Julia, my favorite two and the least bizarre of all the family members, and I'm really glad boyfriend left before Joel got there. It would have broken my heart if he went back to declare his love to Julia, only to have her open the door with post-sex hair. And what's with her hair still looking like crap one season later?

I tweeted that Patrick Dempsey, Ellen Pompeo, and Mary J Blige (it was new music from her playing in background) still got it goin' on. That scene was crazy hot. I too, was sorry there wasn't more. But I assume was a time issue, as well as Grey's now being at 7pm, which is the supposed fam hr.

Yeah, well Patrick Dempsey said on Kimmel that now that they were on at 8 p.m. (7 central!), there would be "no thrusting" in the sex scenes. Sorry, Patrick, I noticed a tiny little bit of thrusting :) Nice throwback to prom sex, where Meredith was similarly, um, situated.

  9. Okay, the shower scene? Please show that in its entirety on the DVD, 'k Shonda? Good lord, they still have it.

Maggie continues to be annoying and ridiculous. I didn't miss Amelia at all, guess I'll get more than my fill of her next week.

  10. I, like everyone else, have no idea what the deal is with JM & AP,  but I do know that during the ER years, I had the opportunity to meet  with someone rather high up who worked on "ER" and he said, "Julianna is a bit of a princess." So, maybe the rumors are true.

  11. I live in Chicago and have driven to Indiana using highways, which make it very clear when you're crossing the state line.  As others have pointed out, the specifics of Cary's Indiana foray were extremely contrived.

    <snipped>

I lived in Munster, Indiana, and you'd go from Illinois to Indiana and back without a sign on back roads. Having said that, I don't know of a road that meanders across the state line.

  12. Ha no way... that's hilarious. What article is that taken from?

I don't think it's hilarious, I think it's freaking smart. It's no less believable than fans forcing Shonda to put them together.

Also: Patrick recently shared about the developments between his character and Ellen‘s character with USA Today. “I think this is probably the first season where I’m really happy with the direction the character’s going,” he says. “We couldn’t get past the ‘Are they together? Are they not?’ for so long. In episodic TV, that’s sometimes the cross you bear. I couldn’t find any other way to look longingly at Meredith [Ellen Pompeo],” he says. “It’s nice to be moving forward. It was fun initially — like for the first few years. Then we kind of got stuck in that and I think everybody got frustrated.”

  13. This episode was such torture for me. When the therapist talked about the fact that Arizona and Callie have a child, I thought she was going to suggest "nest in place" where the child stays in the home, but the parents each take a turn leaving during the time of separation. Can you imagine the harm done to the child living in a house where their mom and mom ignore each other? Ridiculous. Of course, Sofia may be in the parking lot abyss with Erica Hahn, since I'm not sure when we saw her last.

And the black hole that is CallME. Me, me, me. I'm so sick of her, of her whining and complaining, of her neediness. Go have sex with Owen, have your mutually desired baby, and enjoy yourself, but please, do it off my tv screen.

  14. Yeah I can't condone that. It was lame.

Nothing is as awful as Derek's treatment of Addison though. He should have never gotten back with her. I hated how he dicked her and Meredith around but acted like he was the good guy. I hated how hostile he was to her because he really wanted to be with Meredith. I hated him completely. He never even tried to make it work with Addison, it was like the only way he could think of punishing her was to keep her close and hurt her. Only it wasn't just her he hurt, it was Meredith too..

I felt badly for Addison right until we found out that she lived with Mark and never told Derek, and she was pregnant with Mark's baby which Derek never knew. Then, I thought, "Screw you, Addison." She also admitted she slept with Mark to hurt Derek. Sorry, Addison gets no pass from me.

  15. How is it that Meredith and both her half sisters all became Dr's? Isn't that a little far fetched? I liked the episode. I didn't watch it religiously in the early seasons but remembered some of it.

Only two of her three half sisters became doctors, unlike Derek's family, where all FIVE of them are doctors ;)

  16. All the retconning is making my head hurt.

This - and his saying to Meredith "I made the wrong decision" - doesn't jibe with all the "I have to get my wife back" shenanigans from S3 when Adele kicked him out, and the crocodile tears we saw when Adele died.

When I heard it, I wondered whether Richard now saying he was jealous of Ellis was an anvil for Meredith to acknowledge that she was afraid she'd never be as good as Derek? (Probably not, since She's The Sun...)

I think you're right about the "anvil," because he characterized it as, "...hateful, hopeless jealousy." Sounds about right.
