Reading this post next to the Corgi profile pic is hilarious!

It was nice to see Erica again - I think this was her 1st appearance of the season?

Felt for Inez during the book club disaster.  She would have been better off with Jacob and Janine for sure.

I skipped past most of the double date scenes once Gregory spotted Janine. I knew what was coming, and saved myself a few minutes. I like them both individually, but I'm not interested in revisiting romantic angst.

Because Xavier left the will with the assumption he was never coming back. He did want Magneto to have his estate, dead or alive.

But the team wasn't aware of his wishes until Magneto showed up - that's what I'm referring to.  Whatever Xavier's intent, he apparently didn't bother to communicate it to his X-Men - which might be kind of important, given how they were impacted.

But in the original, they let the stories...breathe. Even if I didn't know who was this and what's going on, there was exposition, that wasn't an exposition dump, so I could enjoy them.

    I agree.

In any case, different strokes for different folks.

  3. Bless the person who handles the music licensing for the show - they are doing an excellent job.

I rewatched season one before starting season two - it's still a funny show, but it  seems like Molly is disconnected from the team.

I have a feeling Davy used trafficked women as well as any aspiring actresses he could prey upon.

I agree.  I think where I got confused was Olivia's connection and why Stallings would possibly kidnap/kill her if the woman she was encouraging to report Davy was the actress we saw Melanie and Sugar talk to.

But then I remembered the dead woman that Olivia found and then killed Stallings' henchman...maybe that's the connection and not the actress. I may need to watch this series again to keep it straight, heh.

    3 hours ago, SeanBug said:

But the connection with Stallings, why is Ruby and the man she was talking to concerned Sugar knows about him.

I wondered about this too, but a thought occurred to me: Sugar said Olivia reminded him of his sister.  I assumed the sister is dead.  Is it possible that his sister was also a trafficking victim via Stallings? The whole "we are only to observe" schtick is throwing me, I must admit.

They have also talked about how the Professor is "gone".  Now that could just be them trying not to say killed, dead, etc., but they haven't had a problem using those words in general.

Yes, true, and perhaps that's how the show will handwave it. But I distinctly recall a conversation between Scott and (Madeline as) Jean when they showed the death certificate, and that would have been an excellent time to acknowledge the "we've told the world he's dead, but we know he's off world" ruse.

Plus, I remember wondering why they didn't push back on Magneto's claim of the will and estate by stating he wasn't dead. At the time, I assumed the show was going with the team truly believing he was dead.  But with the latest "they sold a lie" assertion, I guess we'll just have to see how it plays out.

I always wonder why, when a character's life is threatened and someone shows up to save them, they get all upset when the person who threatened to kill them is getting the shit beat out of them.

Given the pedestal that Melanie has Sugar on, I guess it came crashing down when she saw him beating the guy down. Still, I wondered the same thing.

I was wavering on if Ruby was real until this episode because she actually left the house. I know there was the house party with the secret agents or whatever, but I still had my doubts.

I was a bit confused about Davy's confession to Sugar about Olivia and why Stallings would get involved.  The woman that Olivia was talking to was an actress, right?  I didn't think she was being trafficked.  So why even tell Stallings?

  7. Not just sick, but dead.  The team has behaved as though Xavier is dead.  With a death certificate, execution of his will, etc.

Bastion proclaimed that the X-Men were selling the world a lie and implied they have been in contact with the Shi'ar through some hacked satellite. We haven't seen any of the X-Men in contact with the Shi'ar, have we?

It's an example of what I meant by reimagining vs continuation. Which...if the show wants to rewrite what happened to Xavier, okay.  But make up your mind.  Does the team really believe he died, or did they lie to cover his departure from Earth because they never expected him to return? And if it's the latter, seems like a couple of lines in episode 1 or 2 with someone acknowledging that would have ensured continuity.

  8. It was brilliant marketing to invoke the 90s show nostalgia, but this show feels more like a reimagining vs continuation.

I have no issue with a remake, but I would have had a different frame of mind before watching.  As someone who hasn't read the comics, combined with a comparatively condensed season, I agree with some others that the storytelling is coming off rushed and Easter Egg-y.  Usually, I don't care about Easter eggs as long as the story holds. But it's been flimsy.

In any case, the season kind of lost me by sidelining Storm early on and it makes zero sense for her to be absent in ep 7.

I did feel like Janine's storyline was two steps forward, one step back.  She built up some confidence, but seemed too timid when she realized the new job wasn't just about her comfort zone of Abbott.

Agreed.  It was clear she missed Abbott before she was offered the district job. I would have liked to see her assert herself earlier.

That said, I loved the kids' card scene - it was brief but my favorite.

I also thought the avalanche of welcoming and perks was meant to show that for admins at district central, there is more money for parties and perks, whereas at Abbott, everything is bare bones and must be free. The gifts, the new computer, the party, etc-- they take care of themselves, and there's a double standard.

Good point that didn't occur to me when watching the episode.

Forgot to mention: Still annoyed with them delaying Robyn/Dante. We're in Season 4, and they still can't go out for drinks? Come on!

It's really odd, especially since Robyn was openly flirting with Marcus in the first season.  And they were certainly closer after she rescued him in season 2.

But now, despite him in the know and on board with the vigilante work, she's pulled back. If one or the other simply said they weren't interested, I could live with that.  But I'm not sure what's going on the writer's room.

Hmmmm - I can't find any article that lists the official reason for his firing.  I've read speculation about OnlyFans, but he's been working with Disney for awhile, so it seems odd that suddenly became an issue. Side-eye to Disney for now.

Anyway - I was all excited to see badazz Storm.  Should have known better.

The animation will take some adjustment for me, but overall I liked it.  I was particularly entertained by Cyclops' landing after the Sentinel attack in the first episode.

I would like this show more if Chim and Hen were the main characters, with a focus on crazy 9-1-1 situations, and everyone else just in supporting roles rather than an ensemble.

But I have no idea what the salaries would look like for the other actors in that case.

I don't mind the ensemble cast, but I think the various friendships are more compelling than the romantic relationships.  I've never been that invested in Bobby and Athena as a couple.

  13. I'm sure they will be fine, but I've often thought Athena and Bobby made a bit of an odd couple. If I recall correctly, there were similar communication issues about her retiring and when Bobby was trying to help someone in AA. I mean, she could have just been honest and told Bobby no to cruising.  But hey, then we would not have the requisite disaster multi-episode arc!

Chim and Hen's friendship is among my favorites, so I was most entertained by their scenes.

Not that we know of, so far. But I'd guess that he isn't because he's supposed to be an 'outsider'.

Thank you, Trini.  It's interesting when he's interrogating people as if someone owes him answers.  He's not even a private investigator, so the sense of entitlement/condescension from him when he's questioning folks has me rooting against him a bit, even though it's supposedly a righteous cause. Maybe that feeling will fade.

  15. I mostly watch this doing other things, so maybe I missed it - is Colter former law enforcement? Something about the way he was questioning the rich boyfriend bugged me.

I like Rennie, but she's on the wrong show.

  16. I'm rapidly losing interest. I don't mind dealing with the Reach fallout, but I was annoyed by practically everyone in this episode, save Riz and maybe Soren.

I don't know how many episodes are left, but since Riz is now out of the mix (which I support because I wouldn't tolerate John's bullshit either), not sure I'm invested enough to watch.

Kai could have been interesting, but her character arc seems to be as a potential antagonist to John without much explanation.  We know he is speshul and cannot die,  so not sure things will end well for her, either.

  17. Like others, I enjoyed the season until this episode.  The church bombing resolution was convoluted, and it didn't have to be.  And with Rose's kidnapping as a finale, I suspect there might be a change in tone for season 2? Or at least, for a number of episodes.

I was mostly fine with this season's set up: I didn't mind the assistants, but I wasn't a fan of Kylie and felt like the show didn't know what to do with her. I found it amusing that they showed her to be kind of dumb in the finale, and YET! She's officially in the FBI.  Hopefully, not in the field.

All of the melodrama around Jace's death when it felt like we rarely saw him and the lack of chemistry with Marissa...ok, show.  They would have been better off just being co-workers, but I guess they needed him in her house somehow.

  18. I'm not familiar with the game/source material, but I do wonder if every season will feature some annoying, whiny wisp of a woman that John gets to feel protective over? Last season it was Kwan and Makee, and this season seems to be Perez.

  19. I thought this episode was funny.  I will always remember "The Devil's Lettuce" ha!

I was pretty sure the Jessca actress was from Tiktok, but I'm not invested enough to verify that.

  21. I thought Tariq popping was as much about trying to see Janine (and what she's up to) as bond with Nick.  After all, who was handling the transportation before the mom met Tariq?  Presumably, they are several months into the school year.

The actor is hilarious, but Tariq is a bum and will (might?) always be.

Gregory's "advice" and the emotional fallout was entertaining.  I felt for him as a fellow introvert, but working as a teacher is a choice.  Hopefully, he can decompress and recharge at home! Tyler James continues to make great use of his side-eye. I also suspect him being one of the few black male teachers is part of why the students were drawn to his classroom.

Janine's bureaucracy journey was well done - funny yet poignant.  She and her writing team do a great job balancing the comedy and authenticity.

Manny dressed like one of Nino Brown's crew from New Jack City had me chuckling throughout the episode.

Another thing I"m tired of is the tragic backstory for every hero. So I'm not looking forward to the emo. My guess is that the brother was either acting in self-defense, or killed the dad because he was a sexual abuser and bro was trying to end that situation...

And if bro wants to tell him something, just fucking text it for godsake, or send a letter. It doesn't have to be in person, except to draw out the pain for tv purposes.

Or hell, send an email! I'm guessing the dad's death might have been an accident, or maybe Lee Tergresen intentionally jumped trying to escape whoever was "after" him.

I also like the theory that the mom was involved - given his increasing level of paranoia and presumably violent outbursts, maybe she led him to his death.

We're supposed to believe he's 36? Justin Hartley is a good looking guy, but he looks his 47 years.

I'll never turn down shirtless Hartley, and the man can wear a pair of jeans quite nicely.  But I also wonder if he's doing something to his face, as it looked just slightly off in direct shots.  I'm not knocking cosmetic procedures, because hey, that's the entertainment biz.  But when it's not done well, or the results are still...settling, it's more noticeable then ever in this high definition, digital era.

But yeah, he looks his age and there's no reason the character can't be in his forties.  I wonder who is cast as the older brother in present day.

In any case, I'll probably watch the next day via streaming to avoid the commercials.  It went by pretty quickly for me in that regard.

  23. I'm so glad others called out the ridiculous plot holes. This could have been wrapped up in 4 episodes.  I'm not familiar with Coben, but looks like I've watched another series (The Stranger, which I don't recall being so absurd) without knowing they were based on books.

I remember thinking Maya might be the killer because 1) the actress was playing Maya as utterly unaffected, and 2) the reveal of the hidden hand gun.  But I dismissed it because what would be the point of investigating what led to her sister's death if she already knew who killed Claire?

On 1/8/2024 at 7:37 AM, Johnny Dollar said:

The show would’ve been much better if she didn’t kill her husband at the outset but spent her time trying to find her sister’s killer while her husband and his family try to gaslight her.

Yep, and the series title would have played perfectly into this.

How did Judith know about the Nanny Cam frame in order for her to get Izabella and Luka to plant the “deep fake” footage (I can barely contain eye rolling just typing that)?

It's never explained and not only is it a plot hole, the entire premise of the series hinges on it. All they had to do was show the nanny in the background or something when Maya's friend gifts the frame.

I am highly amused at the continuing theme of River channeling Ethan Hunt and shown in full sprint for implausible reasons every season.

I enjoy the show, but this season seemed rushed.  And it's also a bit annoying how they release seasons that are already filmed.  Episodes are already released weekly, but now we'll have to presumably wait until Nov/Dec 2024 for the next season? Why?
