Could just be growth.. I knew folks who were rock star students in HS... But the freedom of being on your own caught  them up for a bit.. And I get the feeling that before the chemistry debacle she was still doing ok.. Even tho she was partying and what not... And it caught up with her.. She already seems like she's righting the ship so I don't mind it as much... I do mind the sisters constantly being so snappy.. They're starting to feel a bit one-note I'd like for sky to have something to do

Except it isn't growth. Zoey partying too much and getting cut off is fine. Zoey was doing well academically in college. It was only because she dropped one of her classes mid-semester that she needed to do well in chemistry to maintain her GPA.

However having her turn her nose up at getting a job and overemphasizing her self involvement, while her vapid friends lecture her, is terrible writing. Especially when there is a much more complex, and interesting, character arc to be mined, that doesn't involve the usual Black-ish/Grown-ish verse misogyny.

She was spoiled but not vapid and arrogant.

Exactly. Zoey was self involved and spoiled but she wasn't afraid of commitment or hard work, especially if it was something she believed in.

Which will be pretty hilarious and hypocritical coming from him, since I seem to recall him being a fairly big brat to Charley for being "hard" on Davis back then and breaking up their family.

That's before Micah knew the truth.

As soon as he was aware of the circumstances, he took his mother's side resolutely.

Maybe this is Nova pushed to the extreme.

Pushed to the wall, Nova has done things questionable but always tried to justify it. Nova stole the money to get Too Sweet out of jail after he was beaten up. Nova knows she's wrong but she takes the money from Charley's account and justifies how it was for Too Sweet and even said she'll pay Charley back. (She didn't) but if Too Sweet wasn't beaten, she wouldn't have taken the money.

Nova is offered advanced pay for her book. She quits her job with the intention of using her stories from her newspaper in the book. The publisher tells Nova she can't use those stories. She needs new ones for the book. That unexpected news catches her off guard and is probably what caused her writers block. As time pass, pressure mounts because she can't come up with anything on her own. As a journalist she's used to telling other people's stories. Not her own. Her future is on the line now. If she can't come up with something the publisher will rescind that six figure offer and book tour. Worst case she'll go back to her newspaper and experience some ridicule.

On the verge of losing that dream of her book and tour, Nova is pushed to the wall and the only way she sees out is telling her family's stories. There is a gold mine of stories there. She knows she's wrong but justifies it saying it will help so many people.

Nova would not compromise Micah or Blue in that manner.

But this is a show that absolves Ralph Angel & Charley of everything while Nova is constantly reduced to a plot device.

  5. Marvel Studios Kevin Feige Confirms Conversations With Keanu Reeves, Wants to Find Right Way to Bring Him Into MCU

    Quote

Recently, ComicBook.com’s own Brandon Davis had the opportunity to chat with Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios, during the upcoming movie’s press junket in London. Feige revealed lots of information, including the exciting news that Avengers: Endgame is getting re-released in theaters with new footage. Davis took the time to ask the producer about the potential future involvement of some big names in the MCU, including the Internet’s current boyfriend: Keanu Reeves.

“A couple of actors I want to ask you about. Keanu Reeves: you guys talking to him for anything?,” Davis asked.

“We talk to him for almost every film we make,” Feige laughed. “We talk to Keanu Reeves about. I don’t know when, if, or ever he’ll join the MCU, but we very much want to figure out the right way to do it.”

Feige went on to compare Reeves to Jake Gyllenhaal, saying that they talked to the Spider-Man: Far From Home star “multiple times” until the perfect role (Mysterio) appeared. They’re hoping a similar situation will occur with Revees, and that he will join the wide world of Marvel when the right role presents itself.

  6. None of Nova's book plot makes an ounce of sense. But who needs character consistency or complexity when everyone can, as usual, Pile On Nova.

But then again, this show has ALWAYS had terrible writing, so.....

In Paris is Burning they straight up admit to "mopping," and we've seen it here. One of the funniest parts of that movie is when someone is trying to explain what mopping is, and he hems and haws trying to make it sound different than it is, and finally he just says "Mopping is stealing."

That would be the legendary Freddie Pendavis, who guest starred last season as one of the ballroom judges. He's the one who told Candy she needed to moooooooooooooooove on. lol

  8. Marvel Cinematic Universe Planning A Return To Comic-Con’s Hall H After 2018 Break: What Will They Bring?

    Quote

We’re hearing that Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe is heading back to San Diego Comic-Con after sitting out Hall H last year.

While there haven’t been any concrete plans made yet in regards to the lineup, it’s an important year for the MCU in the wake of Avengers: Endgame wrapping up a number of storylines, plus the gains made in the expansion of Marvel with the Disney-Fox merger.

Among this year’s MCU cliffhangers in San Diego: What are the next Marvel releases post Avengers: Endgame for 2020? The studio has the first weekend in May and November reserved for MCU product. From what we hear, the upcoming Spider-Man: Far From Home isn’t expected to offer any clues as to what’s next in the Disney MCU since it’s a Sony release. Also, following the Fox merger, what will the Kevin Feige-run Marvel absorb and adapt from the X-Men-Deadpool-Gambit-Fantastic Four universe?

It would come as no surprise to see Black Widow footage and an appearance by Scarlett Johansson and director Cate Shortland. Buzz is that production is underway in Norway. Then there’s the feature adaptation of the God-beings comic 1976 Jack Kirby comic The Eternals which has filled out the cast in recent months with Angelina Jolie, Kumail Nanjiani, and Richard Madden under the direction of Chloe Zhao. Other productions in the pipeline include director Destin Daniel Cretton’s Shang-Chi and Scott Derrickson’s Doctor Strange 2.

Also, what about those Disney+ streaming series? At Disney Investor Day back in April, a logo for the new Tom Hiddleston streaming series Loki was unveiled while Feige confirmed upcoming streaming series for Falcon, Vision, and Scarlet Witch. Despite there being buzz about a Hawkeye streaming series, no details were confirmed.

  9. Yes!

The only way I could ever believe Nova would write a book such as this is if she were as forthcoming and self lacerating about her own secrets, which, thus far, hasn't seemed to be the case.

And, I do think the passage of Nova's book the reporter read to Charley, is something Nova would really say, but directly, and only directly, to Charley, in the heat of an argument.

But this whole 'book of secrets' feels like the writers wanting to disrupt the status quo via the show's most polarizing character imo.

  10. I loved that Angel genuinely missed Ricky. She reacted the same way when Blanca kicked Papi out last season.

I also loved that Ricky was included in Blanca's confession of her diagnosis. He may be shady, but he's still an OG Evangelista.

I think what bothers me most is I have long believed that Ralph Angel is the worst.  Now Nova pulls this garbage and she is the absolute worst.  She had best put her trash out there is she did this to them.  But even if she did, it does not make up for the way she spoke about her family.  Her book would be likely to get attention primarily because of her sister.  She has already been dragged through the tabloids.  Is Nova so hungry for fame or recognition that she is willing to burn every relationship she has?  There is nothing brave here.  She is not exposing abuse. She is simply trash talking her family and telling their business.

My problem with Nova's story this season is that it doesn't ring true.

At least not the Ralph Angel, and to an extent Charley's, part(s) of the equation.

Do I believe Nova would pen a tell all book about her family, including long held family secrets surrounding Ernest, Violet, and Charley? Yes.

Do I believe Nova would draw such risible conclusions about Charley and disclose Blue's paternity in a novel? No way.

Nova has been very clear about how she felt about the Charley/Davis situation and it's always ended with her resolutely siding with her sister.

Also, it's been shown that Nova considers her nephews, surrogate children, who she's gone to great lengths to protect.

And while, Nova certainly enjoys her enlightened pedestal, she's been shown, repeatedly, to admit when she's wrong where Micah is concerned. So there's no way I can believe she'd put elementary aged Blue in the proverbial line of fire.

  12. Donnie Yen, Ludi Lin On Marvel Studios ‘SHANG-CHI’ Short List

    Quote

It appears that Marvel Studios has begun its search for Shang-Chi. According to our source, Ludi Lin (Power Rangers, Aquaman and Black Mirror) is among the actors with whom the studio is interested in meeting to discuss the role. Though Lin’s name is the first to emerge, there is no indication at this point that he is a favorite to land the role. In fact, our source tells us that we should expect to hear more names emerge over the next couple of weeks.

Lin’s career trajectory has led him to this opportunity. He lobbied for the role of Shang-Chi last December. Further, his recent turns in Aquaman and, most recently, Black Mirror Season 5, have gained him notoriety. His desire to lead Marvel Studios’ first Asian-centric superhero film, coupled with his extensive martial arts training have put him on Feige’s radar. It seems that he’ll soon have his chance to impress the man with the plan. We have also heard that one time Disney kid, Ross Butler, may have a chance to sit down with Feige as well.

  13. 'PLL' Alum Drew Van Acker Lands Splashy 'Titans' Role

    Quote

TV Insider has confirmed that Drew Van Acker, whose PLL character was never seen again after escaping the murderous "A" on Freeform's hit in Season 6, will be joining the DC Universe's dark and addictive Titans as Aqualad for Season 2.

Described by DC Comics and Warner Bros. TV as "a founding member of the Titans and Aquaman's eager sidekick," this take on the Young Justice favorite was also born in Atlantis and is a member of the royal court who trained under Aquaman to be a protector of life in and out of the ocean.

Like all up-and-coming capes, Garth "would eventually step out from the shadow of his mentor to become his own hero as a Titan along with many other former sidekicks." Obviously, all things Aqua-related are hot AF these days, what with Jason Momoa's Aquaman becoming DC's biggest theatrical earner ever.
