  1. All things considered, and with the exception of Corinne (<insert your own commentary>), the remaining 5 women all seem to have good depth of character. I wonder if that's what caused Nick's breakdown -- a realization that he actually had an opportunity with 5 quality women.

Jasmine was a mess. Whitney looked stone-faced. I had no idea what Danielle L was talking about most of the time. The bummer of a beach volleyball date was reminiscent of the lack of fun during Ben's Bahamas date with the pigs. Poor Raven, holding the volleyball, after everyone had run off to cry alone.

Bring on more women like Kristina, who have a real story to tell.

Anyone else think the bit with the nanny was a bit ... insulting? Not sure that's the word, but something about seeing Corinne pampered - as a schtick - rubbed me the wrong way.

Nick actually seemed sad to see Alexis go. She was fun, and I wish they showed more of her interaction with Nick. I missed seeing her in the closing credits.

  2. Was this episode longer than 2 hours? It went on and on.

What's Taylor's deal? She's not even into Nick. Now would be a fine time to bow out to prepare for BiP.

Rachel is so normal. Why's she on this show?

Did they have to do the rose ceremony in freezing temperatures?

Alexis is the best part of the show. Nick clearly was having fun, too, with the Nic Cage mask.

I think Danielle M (L) is the business owner? She doesn't seem vapid to me.  A bit giggly, but she strikes me as careful about how she comes across on camera.  It's one thing to show off the girls, but she seems to stay away from the drama and just enjoy the time she has with Nick. Whatever one's personal feelings about other women in the house, that seems like the best strategy.

I don't find her vapid, either. Asking his ex why she thought Nick is still on the market was a smart question, assuming she wasn't fed it by the producers. She reminds me of Caila, who was also measured in her demeanor. It's a smart strategy for someone considering post-Bachelor exposure, which I'm assuming includes pretty much every woman on the show.

Alexis is the dolphin obsessed one, right? Surprising that she's still here but not really, because she's right up my alley. I, too, am afraid of Nicolas Cage and aliens. I know the difference between a shark and dolphin though.

She's this season's Ashley S. I get the feeling she knows exactly how she's appearing on tv, and she's along for a good time. I have no issues with that. She's certainly more entertaining than any number of the other brunettes that I still can't tell apart.

Did anyone get creeped out after realizing Josephine was under the blanket all along during Corinne and Kristina's confrontation?

C'mon Taylor. You know better. Do not take on the villain as a personal enemy. She and Alex can commiserate in BiP together.

Bella and her blue tongue after her (ABC purchased) slurpee. Smile. I'm so glad it was Raven on the date and not one of the more high-maintenance glamour girls. (Not that Raven isn't beautiful - she's a more down-to-earth, girl next door type)

Did I imagine that he said during their date that Danielle M was also from his hometown?

  5. Gleb reminds me of a cross between James Franco and Matt Dillon's character in There's Something About Mary. I still can't figure out what it is about him and Jana that seems very intimate. It's not that they're touchy with each other -- Sharna is very touchy with her partners, too -- but something about it that makes it seem not platonic.

And perhaps that's why watching them makes me cringe a little.  They're great and bring the emotion, but it just feels icky to me.

Megatron is fun to watch. He's not the best dancer but has an awesome attitude and great smile.

It was the right time for Terra to leave. No shame in top 5.

I feel Hinch is the most fearless contestant. I always find myself wondering what surprise element he and Sharna will add to their routine. He (and Laurie) are the only ones I stop what I am doing to watch. I could have done without the horrible rendition of Gimme Some Lovin', though.

Just love Laurie. I didn't feel manipulated. As someone mentioned above, loved the kiss on the forehead during the routine, and the heaviness in her heart was very obvious.

    Laurie FTW, with Hinch 2nd.

Val was so sweet and supportive. Did I imagine it or did he give her a kiss on a forehead during the dance. There was a somewhat awkward moment of his head bobbing towards her, that didn't look like it was a part of choreography.

I saw the kiss on the forehead, too. I believe she also wiped a tear away earlier in the dance.

I think Gleb is pretty attractive, but --and I'm not quite sure how to articulate this -- he and Jana just don't act like Gleb is married.   It just feels uncomfortable watching them.

I noticed this too. All partners are touchy with one another, but there's an intimacy in their closeness that's subtly different than the affection between other partners -- even those who were supposedly a showmance.

Me too. If Isaac could have his own normal intro on the Love Boat, no reason Jorge can't. In fact, I think we need more of Jorge's perspective, perhaps in a "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead" style vignette.

I noticed that when Caila first came in on BiP, none of the other girls from Ben's season looked happy to see her. Usually there's squealing and hugging, but not with Caila. Seems like the dislike pre-dated BiP.

FWIW, I think it's possible that Caila is a stealth bitch. She's all sweetness and light around the guys, but has no shortage of subtle digs for those who cross her ("Jared loves you like a sister", "*we* are trying to make you comfortable", etc.). Obviously Ashley deserved it, but I can also see how that kind of behavior on Caila's part can come across as two-faced.

I finally watched this episode tonight (because apparently 2 nights isn't enough) and got a different impression. There wasn't squealing, but everyone seemed at least neutral. The twins were jealous of her (Emily and Jared were a thing in the way early days) and openly described her as perfect, but not in a mean way. She seemed to have a good rapport with Sarah, and when she commented that it would have been better had Ashley joined earlier than her, Carly even said that it was important for Jared to feel free to pursue someone without Ashley there. When Jen arrived, they also seemed to get along, too.

But, yeah, I hear you about the stealth thing. It is possible she has us all fooled, which would be kind of a bummer. Still, as others have said, at least she never called someone a whore or a hooker on tv. Ashley I - and Jared for not speaking up - came off much worse in my eyes.

There was clearly something the cast was seeing that we were not shown about Caila. A handful of the cast took to Twitter regarding Caila's insincerity. I believe it was more than just her luke warm feelings for Jared, I think it is a trust issue and a discrepancy in what she says/ acts on and off camera. On Afterbuzztv, Alex alluded to the BIP cast feeling this way about Caila.

Years ago, when I was first out of school, one of my coworkers called me disingenuous. My main crime apparently was being nice and polite to everyone - even to those who may not have deserved it. I see now that the behavior could be interpreted as insincere and untrustworthy - even when there was no ill intention. I'm much more blunt now, but at the time I naively thought that being pleasant was the best route for a new employee.

I get the same impression from Caila. The fact that she's so beautiful may even make it worse, and she may have been conditioned to smile and be pretty. Perhaps she let down her guard off-camera and then would be all nice on-camera. I just find it odd that no one has actually leaked or even alluded more substantially to what she did that was so bad.

Or who knows, maybe she's the nut here.

And let's not forget the gravity of calling someone a whore or a hooker. Not that BIP is anyone's idea of serious tv, but those are awful things to call someone. Awful. I don't know what's legally considered slander, but it certainly crossed a line.

  11. I think I'm in the minority here, but I thought Luke was super hot and was looking forward to seeing that intensity over the course of a season. I've never had much of an opinion about Nick, but it will be interesting to see how things go with the tables turned.

Ashley is a horrible human being. Sean - who was clearly #teamcaila - practically had to drag an apology out of her for calling Caila a whore. I don't care what she does with her girlfriends, but she knew she was on camera. Again, Jared sat there like a lump. I'd like to know what dirt Ashley has on him.

I still don't know what people have against Caila. She seems sweet, and a little awkward. I hope for her sake she gets away from the franchise. Caila, you're too good for this!

I rewound and I caught it. I don't get why people don't like Caila. What did she ever do to them? She at least seems quiet and pleasant, and not a keyed up drunk like Lace can be, or an emotional tornado like Ashley, who pulls everyone into her drama.

I felt awful for Caila in this episode. Unless she's had the world's best edit, her main crime seems to be that she attracted Jared. Before this season I'd always thought Ashley was an immature but ultimately sweet girl, and Lace was just out there. Now it's clear they both have zero self-esteem and a mean streak. Get out of the Bachelorverse and grow up!

Daniel - again - was the highlight of the evening. The lamp. The spread of "(pause) American" food. I'm going to miss him. Too bad the twins couldn't give him a rose and then leave, but I guess with only a few episodes to go, they needed to whittle down the people left.

Good for Nick for standing up to Josh.

At the beginning of the episode, was Izzy holding one of the twins in her arms, in the pool?

Way to make me feel old: mentioning the Talking Heads in the same breath as a "History of Rock" class.

Jared needs to be called out on mealy-mouthing everything and playing both sides of the fence. He's delusional to think he can be friendly with Ashley and take her advice on women. Caila was right to call him out on it. She's going to be pissed when she sees all the names Ashley called her and the fact that Jared greeted those insults with... silence.

Ashley has become a lying bitch mean person, using true insane stalker techniques. Not a cute heart eyed emoji, anymore. You can see the steam coming out of her head at the reality of Jared and Caila being attracted to each other. I thought they made a cute couple.

Too bad for you Jared that you didn't put a stop to it right off the bat. Wave bye bye to the spark you genuinely had for Caila who did absolutely nothing wrong except to cause a spark in you. Caila doesn't seem the type to put up with crazy, or bad taste.

Absolutely agree. Ashley is a horrible person - really, no amount of innocent lovesickness justifies "I can make out with his mind." - but JARED is the central figure here and needs to set Ashley straight if he really wants a chance with Caila.

Carly commented in a tweet last night that many people had doubts about Caila's intentions. Maybe she's had the world's best edit, because I honestly don't know where this is coming from. Based on Caila's reactions to a guy gyrating at her and her overall reservedness, couldn't it actually make sense that she might be attracted to low-key, quiet Jared?

But, just for giggles, let's say she's just stringing Jared along for fun. What good would it do - for her - to mess with an unstable stalker? Her 'brand' is being a sweet girl.

Sure, she changed her mind several times about a date (that she really wasn't that into), but is that really worse than Carly's complete 180 on Evan? And her smiling all the time .. is that really worse than Ashley's perpetual waterworks?

I don't think Caila would have been a great Bachelorette but I don't see anything wrong with what she's done here. And I can't believe I wrote all of that.

Seriously, is the demographic for this show 12-year-olds? Because this is my first time watching BiP, and it's pretty unwatchable if you're much older. Either it's an hour of distasteful Chad antics or it's an hour of Ashley I crying (pretty fakely, too, it sometimes looked like) and talking delusionally about how she and Jared are meant for each other and how watching Jared with someone else is her worst nightmare. My worst nightmare is trying to sit through this show, which is seeming more scripted by the minute.

I couldn't watch tonight's episode without doing something else, which was a nice productivity bonus. They should rate tv shows with the amount of brain power required.

Daniel was sweet when consoling Ashley, sharing that he's been in the same situation and encouraging her to find someone who wants to be with her. And noting Jared was ugly. Not sure what he was really saying with the whole dating 10 guys at once -- was he suggesting she sleep with multiple guys? It actually would sound like advice a guy would give.

The half-birthday cake was nice, and you kind of have to wonder if maybe it was the nicest thing anyone's ever done for Daniel, as he deadpanned.

Ashley's got to be in on the joke. She seems to have a decent head on her shoulders in non-Jared related activities. It would be more likely that she knows it's what keeps her in the Bachelor-sphere, and so she milks it. It would be a shame if it detracts her -- or Jared -- from actually finding The One in real life, though.

Caila flip-flopping on the date was a little annoying, but I can understand not really wanting to go but feeling like you kind of have to. I also liked that Nick called out how unnerving the whole Ashley thing must be for Caila. Up until then, it seemed like everyone was quick to judge her for her indecisiveness.

That booze cruise looked like my worst nightmare. Not a shocker at all that Haley (or was it Emily) had a great time. It also highlighted - in hindsight - how JoJo was a better choice as The Bachelorette. While a cheesy booze cruise may not have been JoJo's cup of tea, I get the sense she'd roll with the punches. Caila was clearly uncomfortable in the setting and showed it - which is perfectly fine in real life but not so much as TB.

Best line -- Caila (turning away a gyrating guy): "No, no, I'm good. Thank you."

Poor Vinny. If they're only there for 3 weeks - and they've been there for 2 weeks already -- why wouldn't Izzy just give it another week? She liked him well enough, and at least she has a better chance of staying on tv (if that's her draw.) And if it doesn't work out, I hardly doubt she wouldn't be able to hang out with Brett post-show. (Her reaction to Brett reminded me of Amy on Big Bang Theory when she first met that hunky ex-boyfriend of Penny's. EEP.)

Evan. Admitting again to faking an injury to get Carly to like him. Blech.

Tomorrow's episode looks like a doozy.

I think Michelle is funny but her presentation can sometimes be off-putting with all the little snarky jabs that she doesn't wait to land. Chad said on his twitter he felt a little ambushed by her. For all his complaining about how fake everyone is and how everyone is promoting something he is just as much of a fame whore if not more than the rest of them: from twitter:

"Y'all want a Reality Show of me selling Real Estate in LA, pumpin iron, hittin on babes, hangin with Daniel, & general badassery?! #ChadShow"

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I felt bad for Chad. The show has decided to mess with him -- the horrific edits, Michelle's jabs, and even Sarah wouldn't stop after he apologized to her (which doesn't seem like a common occurrence). He's certainly not innocent, but it just seems he's become an easy target. Who knows, though, maybe he likes the attention.

Oooh Daniel, what a surprise you turned out to be. Strange yes, but seems to be the most intuitive of the bunch. He spot on noticed the fakeness of Josh right off the bat. That big false smile plastered on his face screams " trust me, like me, I'm really a nice guy".

I'm with you, Sassycat. Daniel's got a lot more going on upstairs than I'd first thought and is certainly deeper than most of the folks there. His comment about making someone laugh was sweet, and I get the whole thing about respecting people who want to get to know you. He seems to be able to see past superficiality, and maybe that's why he was the only one who hasn't gotten their panties into a bunch over Chad.

Hoping he doesn't turn out to be a d-bag as he's become my new favorite to watch. And I can't believe I just said that.

The twins crack me up. There's something childlike and innocent about them. I mean, they make petty comments but they don't seem jaded and hard like some of the other folks who have been around the block a few times. Is Ashley I joining? It'll be interesting to see them interact.

Evan...I don't care what the producers are promising you. Stop and think about what you're doing. I feel bad for him in that he really has no clue he's being manipulated (or does and doesn't care) by the show but not that bad because he's A GROWN ADULT.

  17. Chad has got to be a character. And if he's not, he needs to take his show on the road. His one-liners ("on a scale of 1 to ****-off..") are pure gold.

Vinny seems like a nice, normal guy, macking on 2 girls not withstanding. I noticed he and Jared were the two who leaned against the couches during the cocktail party, while everyone else was squeezed in like sardines.

Leah should work on her self-esteem. It's why she talked crap about Lauren B during Ben's season, and why she thought the fillers and sexy makeup would change things. Girl, focus on yourself!

Lace needs subtitles half the time. And agree with the poster above about the extensions and eyelashes. She's an absolutely stunning woman already - less is more!

Daniel is growing on me. He's weird and says wildly inappropriate things, but strangely it works for him. And no one seems to mind him, which would lead me to think he's actually an ok guy.

The twins are juvenile and petty but, like Daniel, it works for them. I enjoy watching the scenes they're in.

Evan looks like a very, very, very delicate version of Sean Penn.

The thing about Josh I remember most about his season was him completely losing it when Andi had the guys take a lie detector test. I mean, yeah, in real life it would be kind of strange, but - seriously - this is a dating reality show.

Yeah, how did I end up rooting for Nick?

Mu Shu, you're not the only one. Gross.

Loved everyone crowding around Jubilee after the rose ceremony. For all the extensions and plastic surgeries and fame whoring, it's nice to see at least some humanity. Leah did not seem to have the same send off.

  18. I was multitasking during the show but even then found it difficult to watch.

These shows have never been shy about the role alcohol plays in manufacturing drama, but this was well beyond someone being just drunk and stupid.  If he was really as impaired as they portrayed him to be (stumbling and pooping in his pants), he should have been cut off.

Calling out Sarah was just way wrong.

The show is supposed to be about shallow people hooking up on a beach with a side of ridiculous angst thrown in. Instead, we barely saw Jubilee and Jared's date (and if a clown came at me on a date I'd be hella more freaked out than she was) or Izzy and Vinny together, or Nick being Nick. It was more of a PSA on the dangers of binge drinking.

I did find Daniel vaguely amusing and would love to see him fall for a girl. It seems he's more comfortable being sarcastic or hanging out with his buddy Chad than actually taking a risk on liking someone.

I think there is a difference between an aggressive dog and having a fly or bee come at you. What can you really do besides swat it away?

True, though Jordan didn't even help do that -- he just laughed at her. It's a small gesture for sure, but he just doesn't seem like he cares about her at all.

And I'm totally spending too much time thinking about this! :-)

  20. In the bloopers, what did JoJo say to Chase after he kicked over the fake rock covering the spotlight?

I thought it was telling that, in the bloopers, the only guy who would help JoJo was Luke, who tried to hold back the husky that was getting aggressive. The other guys just laughed it off when she was attacked by flies or whatever. I'm all for feminism, but dammit, if someone needs help, HELP THEM. Jordan covered his OWN mouth.

Chad's comment about Robby and Jordan. Wow. But not untrue.

Evan's smirk annoys me. Just go away.

Hipster Brandon looked so much better with a haircut.

  21. I've been TeamLuke from the start, but now I'm wondering if it was planned since the start that he'd be The Bachelor. Thinking back, everything about the relationship was so over the top -- JoJo not being able to keep her hands off him, the horse date to have Luke show off his cowboy background, the carefully orchestrated mega-dramatic breakup. If so, bravo to the show. You got me hooked and wanting more of him.

Still can't stand Robby, but I can't put my finger on it. It's like everything he says or does is premeditated. That said, in real life, he may be absolutely stunning, with the swimmer physique and chiseled features. He should model.

Jordan is the least attractive of the 4 - IMO - but makes up for it in extreme self-confidence. I think he's got this in the bag.

Oh Chase. I was just getting comfortable rooting for you. He's the most approachable, most normal one of the bunch. Sense of humor with the fish, handsome without being too pretty, athletic without being cocky. Like someone said above, he'll do just fine in the real world if he's really looking for Love. Unfortunately I don't think he has enough of a story to lead a show (especially not compared to a hot West Point war veteran / cowboy / musician)

I actually thought JoJo's reactions were pretty normal for anyone in this situation. While much of the show is manufactured, the feelings must still be overwhelming. The tears seemed real when she was breaking up with Luke, and it seemed she genuinely wanted to be in love with him (and Chase). I had originally wanted Caila for this season, but JoJo's won me over.

Not being snarky but genuinely want to know what it is about Luke that so many of you are seeing that I'm not. To me, he seems totally closed off. And not even in a "My codependent love is going to break down his walls and make him a better man, more in touch with his inner child" kind of way. But in a "This guy has some serious PTSD from the war and/or Texan cowboys aren't allowed to have emotions" kind of way. I mean, the horse riding date I think he ACTUALLY smiled, but other than that, he looks seriously depressed at all times. I don't think I've seen a personality other than stoically poised.

For me, it's all about his unabashed masculinity and depth of life experience. I see the stoicism as restraint and discipline, which score highly for me. Plus, the other guys just seem like boys around him, with their snarking, immaculate hair, and premature professions of love.

Granted, this is the version the editors want us to see, so who really knows.

Oddly, Jordan's way of grabbing JoJo's hand while walking ahead of her grates on me. Some may see that as masculinity. Maybe it's because I see Jordan's confidence as cockiness, while Luke's confidence is quiet.

And I've spent way too much time thinking about this.

  23. I am liking Chase more and more. He's solid -- low drama, has a real job, is tight with his mom and sister, wipes his feet on the doormat, shakes Robby's hand upon seeing him at the Rose Ceremony. His downfall is that he may not be flashy enough for JoJo - or for America if he is in the running for TB.

Robby's hometown could not finish fast enough. Who really cares about his ex-girlfriend at this point. If there's that much doubt, just cut him (and his pastels) loose. And props to JoJo's ability to whistle. I love that she can be both gorgeous and also a tomboy.

Aaron's hometown featuring Jordan was cringe-inducing. I like how Jordan made it clear that the situation with Aaron wasn't something they talked about, yet it was all that was talked about. Again, if the guy's relationship with his brother is that big of an issue, just cut him loose. His little snark about Luke's timing when he asked to speak with JoJo at the Rose Ceremony was off-putting. Sadly, I don't think there's anything stopping him from F1. JoJo is SO into him. His swagger at the Rose Ceremony said it all.

Luke. Sigh. What happened. They were hot and heavy in Argentina, on the last one-on-one. I wonder if it was one of those situations where you see someone out of context, and they're no longer who you envision them to be. So, while Luke clearly stood out in the Bachelor crowd, maybe he seemed more commonplace in his comfort zone. Personally I found him even more endearing seeing him interact with his family and friends, but I'm #teamluke. JoJo was very obviously not as into him as he was into her this week. We'll see what happens next week.

Really liked JoJo's natural charm. She exudes warmth, and the families all seemed to be taken by her.

    • Love 6
  24. Caught up finally.

Daaanngg, Luke is hot. He isn't the prettiest nor the most articulate, but - ooh - he oozes raw masculinity. I agree with whoever said this was his Bachelor audition, and he aced it. He'd be the first Bachelor in a long time that I'd be excited to be watching, and a real departure from the pretty man-boys we've had the last few seasons. He could possibly even surpass Andy Firestone for me, and that's saying a lot. Did I mention Luke was hot? #TeamLuke.

Jordan has the kind of face that you can imagine what he'd look like in 25 years. I still don't get his appeal, but JoJo does and I guess that's what matters.

If you wrote a software program to produce the perfect Bachelorette contestant (stay with me, wasn't there some Scarlett Johanson movie about an AI-generated perfect woman), you'd have Robby. (It would be too mean to say it's short for Robot... ) He has the perfect face, the perfect hair, the perfect body, and the perfect things to say. He's in it to win it and has thus far avoided having to show a real feeling, a real emotion, a real ANYTHING. Hometowns will be very interesting, I think, to see if he thaws out around family. The previews don't look great for him.

I like Chase. He seems like a real person, processing what's going on in real-time without getting too caught up in the drama. He may lose out because he's not as effusive as the others after knowing a girl for a month - and the only one without an identifiable "thing" (Jordan is a former football player, Robby is a former swimmer, Luke is an Army vet) - but I vote him most dateable in real life. I'd be shocked if he didn't have his pick of women back home.

    • Love 6
  25. Say what you will about Chad, but he made for brilliant television. (He even got a special promo for Bachelor in Paradise!) The rest of these guys just don't have that much charisma. By comparison, I felt the guys in Kaitlyn's season were nice _and_ fun to watch (e.g. the 2 Bens, Tanner, Jared) and even the front runner (Shawn) wasn't as overly confident as Jordan.

I would be so happy if the sobfest of a Final Rose Ceremony that was previewed was about Jordan. He's so smug.

    That Derek thing was pointless.

Robby annoys me. Something about his perfect hair and slow, creaking voice. I don't find him sexy and flirty at all.

Luke's nip slip was funny maybe the first nanosecond and then got awkward.

I can't believe the guys were that upset by the possibility that JoJo could be doing this just for exposure. They do realize they're on a reality tv show, right?
