I am happy that Janelle and Christine seem genuinely close. I think Janelle will need support when she ultimately chooses to leave.

In one of the last specials, Janelle took exception to Christine's "narrative," about Janelle needing encouragement to separate from Kody.

I'll tell you though, when Janelle said (tonight) that she had a lot of plans and marriage wasn't a part of them, my gut felt like Janelle is still married to Kody in her heart.

Kody and Janelle have split a few times before. Who knows. When the money dries up and Robyn leaves Kody, Janelle could be the last wife standing.

  2. I wonder if Christine's mother has been around her father since the divorce.

I got a little choked up for Christine when she choked up. And then when Annie cried, I felt so bad for her.

Oh my word. Kody managed to be nice enough in his solo comment.

    The location is gorgeous.

What was the look/smirk about calling David their step dad?  He is going to be the step dad.

Yeah. I don't know. There was a clip (maybe) at the beginning with Ysabel and Aspyn talking privately about that. I don't know how girls who at some points have actively said they have four mothers could have a problem with the term "step-father," particularly since they're not in the cult.

  4. I've been rewatching Friends since Matthew Perry's death. Christine's repetition of "I'm getting married" reminds me of Monica (not in a bad way, it just makes me smile).

  6. Christine's grandfather -- the one who was the prophet in their cult and was murdered -- he was a chiropractor and homeopath.

Their antivax sentiment goes beyond "they will come after us." They prefer pseudoscience.

I do not think any of Janelle or Christine’s offspring are interested in having courtships.  Dating, living together, eventually marriage - sure.

The way they used the term, it was clear (to me, anyhow) that they didn't mean religious, strict courtships. Rather, they used the term for a dating relationship prior to marriage.

  8. More from Mykelti's live chat:

She thinks Avalon might have hand, foot, and mouth disease, so she was going to take her to urgent care after her live. Christine was going to come watch the twins, because Tony had to go to work.

Mykelti said something about going to the doctor last night, because Christine wants her over for Christmas. My guess Christine is doing Christmas with her kids who went to Maddie's (Mykelti, Ysabel, Paedon).

Leon and Audrey weren't in NC. Mykelti wasn't sure where they celebrated Christmas, but she thinks they usually do it with friends in Colorado. Tony said a lot of the siblings do holidays with friends.

Someone asked something about Hunter and his Audrey. Tony didn't read the question (and the chat moves fast). He just said, "Hunter and Audrey? Super awesome. I imagine they're going to have a long courtship, though."

Mykelti agreed, and said she thought they'd be like Logan and Michelle. She thinks Ysabel will have a long courtship (she was talking in general). She thinks Paedon, if/when he finds someone, will have a short courtship. She thinks Gabe will too, but that Savanah and Garrison will have long courtships.

She then said, "I think Truely wouldn't happen. Period." That felt like super weird speculation about a 13-year-old.

Even though Mykelti's kids were sick, Aspyn insisted she bring them over for NYE. Ysabel was there, and Gwendlyn and Bea were "in town" (I think she meant since they were in town, they were at Aspyn's, but sometimes it's hard to tell with the Browns). Christine and David didn't go over, because David was sick.

Tony went to Hawaii for a chess tournament and a little vacation (because he stayed home with the kids when Mykelti went to UK with Christine). Most of the rest of the chat was about his trip.

Nothing groundbreaking. I think Mykelti is just afraid to lose subscribers right now, especially since she's "pausing" her LulaRoe business for at least a while, so she did a placeholder chat to keep people tuning in. Sorry there wasn't anything more interesting to report.

Thanks. I’d be interested in what she says, if you don’t mind. 😁

Mykelti is not covering any episodes today. I think she did this little chat, because she hasn't put out content in a couple of weeks (she traveled to Maddie's for Christmas, and her kids got sick there and have been sick since they got home).

Tuesday, she will do a watch party for part I of the wedding episode (that airs tomorrow). She plans to cover the Talk Back/Look Back things, but not for a couple of weeks probably (until after she's done both parts of the wedding episode).

Janelle was the only Brown parent at Maddie's for Christmas, and Mykelti said it was kind of cool to have Janelle take that primary parent role. A lot of those in NC agreed it really felt like Christmas (they think because they had the six grandkids -- Maddie's 3 and Mykelti's 3) there.

So far, the chit chat has included that she had Garrison in the gift exchange and gave him Star Wars and Lord of the Rings merch. Tony had Gabe and gave him a desk organizer that looks like a tool box, and a miniature, actionable rifle model (to build).

The chat that accompanies the video isn't visible right now, so I can't see questions people are asking, but someone asked Mykelti if she watched Friday With Friends. Mykelti didn't even know what it was. When someone explained it was Meri and Jenn's Instagram live thing, Mykelti just played it straight and said "No," without any snark.

(I can't imagine asking her something like that.)

I'm bowing out about halfway through. So far, it's not really show related.

  11. Mykelti definitely seems like someone who might skip that step.

That said, the recommended schedule in the US is first dose at age 12 months through 15 months, second dose at age 4 years through 6 years. Avalon isn't 3 yet, so she would have had one dose at most, and the twins are right in the age for that first dose.

I suspect none of her kids were vaccinated against chickenpox though, because if I vaccinated my kids against it and they caught it, I think I'd mention, "Even though they got one of the two shots, they still caught it, so be careful blah blah blah..."

If she is anti-vax (or even just hesitant), I hope the possibility of having three kids under 3 with chickenpox will make her reconsider the issue.

I read somewhere that Mykelti and Tony don't believe in vaccines.  Yet another thing in common with Kootie and Crybrows.

I believe it was Paedon that said online that when the OG 13 were kids, they weren't vaccinated.  He indicated that his first vaccines were when he joined the military.

I think he Paedon did say that.

I know Gwendlyn mentioned it too (she's very pro vax now). When watching an old episode where the kids were at Winn's ranch, and helped corral the cattle for vaccinations, she snarked about how at least the cows were vaccinated (or something along those lines).

Speaking of Janelle sitting in front of a giant display of wine bottles, there was also a big, beautiful plant behind her.  Does anyone know what kind of plant it is?  (I can’t believe I’m asking this).  It’s beautiful!

It's a Maranta, commonly known as a Prayer Plant

My mother never met a houseplant she couldn't murder in cold blood, but we had a Prayer Plant for a really long time. (I should think about getting one for my daughter, who seems to have inherited her grandmother's black thumb of death.)

Understood. At the time, I thought it might be because he is a male, but other theories make sense.

I think so, because it was Maddie and Mykelti who were rejected. Garrison was accepted. One of the other boys might have joined the LDS too, but I'm not sure about that, and don't have an inkling about which one.

It does not seem to be Logan or Hunter (just judging by the fact that they're open about consuming alcohol, and the LDS church is more strict than the AUB about that). That would really only leave Gabe, or Dayton (because I don't think Paedon would be LDS, and working as a strip club bouncer).

I've always sort of gotten some sort of impression that Gabe might be evangelical Christian. I am not sure why. He just pings that in my brain.

Oh my word, the laugh that just came out of me!

He is very open to her slight suggestions and nuanced comments so all she has to do is suggest something, cry, whathaveyou and he is done.  He is a sucker for a woman crying and appearing fragile (see Aurora panic attack).

I don't think he's a sucker for a woman crying, but I agree that it works for Robyn. I have seen him look disturbingly angry when Meri and Christine have cried. Aurora's a kid (or was when she had that episode). I do think most adults would be hard put to not respond to a young person who was in a similar state (no matter the cause).

    Quote

Robyn had a coach, her mother, who taught her how to be the most important person/sisterwife in Kody's life.  The others were too busy trying to integrate another family to notice the game Robyn was playing.

    The above is spot-on.

Christine did want to watch her kids but Robyn never allowed her to. Christine was hurt when she found out they had a nanny wondering why

I think (and have always felt) this was some master class spin from Christine.

After Truely was born, Christine talked (on the show) about not wanting to watch everyone's kids anymore, and taking a step back to concentrate on her own kids. She [paraphrase] basically said she took care of Janelle's kids to her own kids' detriment. I don't remember what episode that was in, but it was fairly early on.

Regarding the bit you pointed out, Lady S, S08.E04, "One More Woman in Kody's Life," aired in January 2015. It appears to have been filmed late summer/early fall in 2014, so when it was filmed Paedon would've been about 16, Gwen would have been 13, Ysabel would've been 11. Truely would've been 4. Every kid in that family, except for Truely, would have been of public school age. Christine was no longer home all day with 5 or 6 or 7 little ones.

It's the episode where Mykelti and Aspyn move into an apartment together, so Christine complains that's she's losing all her help. Truely was the only one in that little stage of life. At any rate, Christine decided to move in Grandma Annie (Christine's mom).

In a group couch segment, Christine said, "It's really, really hard moving in my mom, because of 'why'. The reason I wanted plural marriage is because I liked the idea of helping raise my sister wives' kids, and my sister wives helping me raise my kids. We haven't been able to that here [Las Vegas]. It's just we're too busy. We're all doing these different things, where we're working."

Christine then singled out Robyn. "It was really difficult for me when you got a babysitter, 'cause my first thought was, 'Why aren't we good enough'? It's like, 'Why don't you trust me with your kids? Why wouldn't you ask me first'? I didn't get it."

I'm tired of quoting, but you can watch it for yourselves. I felt Robyn was the one being gaslighted (for a change). After explaining why Mindy came to Vegas, Robyn did point out that all the Brown moms "work" (do the show, which they're not usually allowed to acknowledge on the show) together, so when Robyn needs childcare, Christine is not available.

Christine already knew that too, because she acknowledged it with her "It's just we're too busy. We're all doing these different things, where we're working."

Still Christine went on to say it "broke [her] heart," and told Robyn "You're never going to need me."

To me, the looks on Meri, Kody, and Janelle's faces all seem to indicate they thought Christine was spewing doublespeak, too. Robyn looks like she's thinking, "Am I going crazy?"

It's one of the times, on this show, that I thought Christine was absolutely full of shit and just trying to best Robyn on camera, even though she knew the whole family would think she was full of shit, too.

The thing is, if that is what Christine was doing, she won that round. It seems to me most of the fandom just accepts Christine's take on it, even though it made no sense (since they all worked together). That little bit of manipulation paid off for Christine, for years.

I say this as someone who loves Christine and can't stand Robyn. I think it was absolute spin.

I also think that Paedon bullied (and maybe hit) a few of the pixie girls, so if Robyn didn't want her kids being babysat at Christine's house, I get it.

  16. ET put out a teaser for the Christine and David's Wedding Special:

It's longer than the teaser we saw after the recent episode. Kody's not too bad here. I get why Robyn was trying to shut him up. Who knows how he'll spout off.

That said, I thought Robyn's final good wish was oddly worded. "I hope Christine and David can be happy. That's all I'm gonna say."

"Can be happy"? Really, Robyn. If (GOD FORBID) I was married to Kody Brown, and he was smoother off the cuff than I was, I'd have myself evaluated for cognitive decline. Just sayin'...

  17. ABC News Studios has a Mormon polygamy-related documentary series premiering on Hulu, tomorrow (January 4, 2023).

Daughters of the Cult is a five-part miniseries that centers on the life of Ervil Morrell LeBaron, the polygamist Mormon cult leader who started the cult, the Church of the First Born Lamb of God.

If the name Ervil LeBaron sounds familiar, that's because this man, sometimes referred to as "Mormon Manson," ordered the 1977 hit on Christine Brown's grandfather, Rulon C. Allred, then the prophet of the Apostolic United Brethren (AUB, the Browns' religious group).

Ervil's 13th wife, Rena Chynoweth, was acquitted of the murder in court, but confessed to it her 1990 memoir, The Blood Covenant.

Christine Brown's mother, Ruthann or "Annie," is a LeBaron (yes, it's the same LeBarons).

Here's a "first look" at the Daughters of the Cult series:

Here's the Daughters of the Cult trailer:

Vice has a write up on Daughters of the Cult, here: https://www.vice.com/en/article/g5y387/daughters-of-the-cult-i-was-raised-by-the-mormon-manson

    Was that a Mormom marriage?

Janelle's marriage to Adam Barber was LDS, not AUB.

According to the Browns' Becoming Sister Wives book, Adam had been raised in the AUB, but he wasn't committed to it. He converted to the LDS church for Janelle, then they started "courting." Janelle wrote that Adam wasn't all that interested in his new faith either, and one of her complaints against him was that he lacked "spiritual conviction."

Since that wedding announcement Ginger provided says they were married in the Salt Lake City Temple, their marriage was a Mormon sealing. However, since she left the faith, and converted to the AUB, I don't know if she bothered to get a release.

Adam married twice after Janelle (not plural marriages). He may have gotten a release, if his subsequent wives were LDS.
