  1. I thought Bethany was conspicuously happier as a dancer when partnered with Mark. I thought they were a great looking couple.

I think Sadie's knees are just bowed, they look double jointed on the inside.  They looked like they were going to break outward while she was dancing, so I couldn't tear my eyes away to evaluate the ostensibly gangly arms.

Interesting that Cheryl made a comment about Drew and Witney.  Wish I could remember what she said...  anyone?

  2. Also, ABC doesn`t have a way of letting Canadian viewers watch their videos.  I know they don`t care, because their direct ad revenue isn`t affected, but I would guess that they`ve lost sales in Canada (I don`t think CTV carries it anymore (the last season they carried was in 2013 I think) - dunno about any other Cdn channel) and I am positive that hurts their pocketbook.

  3.

I don't know why she (or any guest judge) should have to be "in line" with the other judges' scores if she doesn't think that's what the pair should get. If she's forced to be an automaton, what's the point of having a guest judge at all?

Ex-fucking-xactly.  So she had one score (her first one) out of line with the other judges (and, I thought, out of line with her own comments) and then she was completely in line for the rest of the show.  Like every other guest judge.  Kevin Hart stepped out of line on his thirds score, I believe, but was in line the rest of the show (maybe the rule is that they're allowed to step out of line once just so they don't look like puppets?).

My point is NOT that they should be in line with the other judges, but that they ARE in line with the other judges, because that's what tptb want.

As far as guest judges go, Jessie was the worst.  She kept saying she’d never seen any of them dance, so why bother to go on the show if you don’t even watch it occasionally?  She knew nothing about dance, nothing about the dancers.  Absolutely useless.

I think she hadn't even made rehearsals or meetings with the producers.  That's why her first score was not consistent with everyone else.  Then they brought her up to speed in the commercial break and all of the rest of her scores were in line.  I think it's outrageous that she hadn't watched any of the show prior to this experience (and offensive to the entertainers and the audience).  I think guest judges are, in general, freaking annoying, but she went exponential on that.  By the end of the show, I would have been happy to kick her (hard).

  5. Another point about Bethany is that if she has a successful online presence, she will have been exposed to massive bullying and hate by trolls and women-haters.  I don't think I've ever heard of any woman who hasn't been excessively and cruelly tormented online in those circumstances.  It takes quite a bit of maturity to stop reading and stop worrying about that kind of vitriol.  Mind you, I don't know this to be true of her, but as I've heard it from so many online women, I'd be pretty gobsmacked if it weren't true of her too.

  6. I think any choreographed dancing is harder than it looks.  I often laugh at myself putting down these celebrities for the stiffness or whatnot - I've tried to learn these dances (granted not from pros) and I have never approached looking comfortable and smooth even once and I was just doing the barebones basics.  And when I took baroque dance, after years and years, I could practice a minute-long dance for  12 hours and still forget the choreo partway through the dance (esp solo of course).  And it was over 10 years of that type of dance before I could add facial expression to arms, posture and feet.  I love dancing, but I am no dancer.  Really what the celebs do is amazing -- even Michael.

  7. Morgan of Hed - don't be teasing me with links to pictures of George Chakiris that don't work.  Man, that guy was one of the dreamiest movie stars I've ever seen.

Derek's dancing also leaves me cold because he never has much tingle with his stars.  I guess I kinda liked him with Kellie Pickler - they had a little something.

I'm still preferring Erin to any of her predecessors.  It's not her fault that the show is a hot mess.

People keep talking about the switch-up but I can't find info on it.  Is the voting happening now or is it in the future?

    Velvet suit?

  8. Tommy is handsome as hell, but there were a couple of weak-ish connections.

I thought Sadie looked like her legs were weirdly bowed when she was dancing - almost like she was compensating for being taller than Mark.  Is she?

Alison and Jonathan's tango wasn't as sharp as it could have been. It didn't do anything for me.

That Erol Flynn style Robin Hood hat with that dance was the opposite of romantic.  It seemed like a clunker idea to me.

    Betsy's dance was contemporary?  Really?

I'm sorry Couture didn't last longer than Sabato because I find one hot and the other not, but Sabato's movement is slightly improving, while I'm not sure Couture's was at all.

That package about Derek was annoying as fuck.

    Lea was forgettable.

And, excuse my ignorance (I hope it's not gross), but what was the velvet suit stuff about?

  9. Tavis is not the brightest penny in the drawer, but he's hardly the dullest either.  Good for him for thinking of saying something that will keep him being talked about at the water coolers for a while after he leaves the show (not necessarily the bottom 2).  He certainly won't be remembered for his in-the-pocket dancing -- if he's lucky, the dancing will be entirely forgotten in the post-mortem conversations about his departure.

  10. The fake showmance bugs me because I see less-than-no spark between the two.  Way more sparks between Karina and Val and Peta and Val.

Tavis is a smart man.  He has to know that looking like he was angry and about to throw up throughout a disco dance with an afro wig was not going to win him votes.  I think he deliberately sabotaged himself after watching his first dance.  The stuff he said in interviews about his natural rhythm and his "black card" makes me think that he might have been somewhat taken aback by the truth as revealed on tv.  I'm sorry he's gone because I could look at Sharna for days.  She's my idea of a gorgeous woman, despite her rotten taste in crotch-display dance moves.

Nearly all the woman dances (bumpers and etc.) look like stripper dances these days.  I wish that they could visit some other meme occasionally (and I don't mean contemporary pedo dream plastic doll dancing).  Granted, they look like VERY VERY pricey and beautiful strippers...

  11. Tavis seemed really unlike himself, I agree.

Alison - haven't you ever watched the show?  That kind of attitude will get you nowhere.  And Artem's snark at Lea that SHE was the one who had to get the dance, read as a mistake to me too.  If Maks said something like that, the world would be blowing up in reaction.

I'm also rooting for the geezers.

Julianne looked almost the worst I can ever remember seeing her look.  What is her problem.

I didn't really like the opening number.  Who choreo'd it?

Keo read as desperate in every bumper he was in.  He made Jenna look tame to my eyes.  He needs to tone it down.

  12. I was stunned by the heat Randy was projecting at Karina - I'm pretty sure he was mostly just covering nerves, but that's not how my romance-meter registered it.  I didn't expect to be so impressed.

Witney told us that she was the youngest pro and then she told us that she was half the age of her partner.  They are trying for the new Julianne, but Witney is not as good a dancer.  She is a good choreographer though.  I still can't stand her (so that IS like Julianne.)

Did anybody listen to Lacey's livestream? How was it?

Is Julianne saying, yeah I agree with Len, all the time so that he can leave the show and everyone will accept her as HIS replacement?

  13.

I'm confused. Why an objection based on them being American? This isn't Strictly Come Dancing.

I'm even more confused than you.  I wasn't objecting.  I was explaining why I don't know them.  I follow a lot of British tv too and I don't know any of their C- and D-list stars either.  One tends to be more familiar with one's own C-and D-list stars is all.  I was just explaining that I don't find you have to know who these people are before season in order to thoroughly enjoy them.
