The premiere was really good. One of the biggest scams this country has running is its supposed love and care for its veterans. Veterans are denied healthcare by design and not just for exposure to carcinogens. We can spend trillions yearly on "defense" but not invest in taking care of the people who went into service "defending" our country. Indeed, "thank you for your service" means literally nothing.

My dad is a veteran and all of his healthcare is covered by the VA, even down to his eyeglasses. And when it's not at the VA facility, they pay for it. My dad have to have a brain tumor removed and rehab.

I understand problematic accents.  I hate how people butcher the Boston accent.  Especially Matt Damon and Ben Affleck who grew up in the Boston area and should know better.  Good  Will Hunting is a good movie - but those accents.....

As a southerner, usually only folks raised in the SE can get the accent right a la Sandra Bullock, Reese Witherspoon, Dennis Quaid, Renee Zellweger, Julia Roberts, etc. The exceptions are Emma Stone and Jessica Chastain in "The Help." Usually, it's a sore thumb and distracting.

I was interested in this episode because we finally got some acknowledgement that the doctor's daughter was traumatized by her childhood. Every time I watched her speak, I wondered how she made it out alive. Her detachment when discussing these events is a survival mechanism.

When Hefner married, I wondered why and figured that he wanted sons and that the marriage was transactional. Now I think it was timed to offset his worry that the public would be finding out more about the Playboy nastiness - a PR move.

He did have a son from his previous marriage, but it could have been a PR move. Also, AIDS was still heavy in the conversation, so it may have been a practical choice as well.

Yes, Stanford White decorated their house, hence the grandeur.

When Peggy went home to Mom I was disappointed that we didn't get an appearance from the Maid of Shade.

I'll refrain this week from kvetching about the faux scenery.

Yes!! Bummed to see Peggy no longer in the main area of the show, but hopefully we see more of her next season. Can the Van Rhjins (however it's spelled) trade Marian for Peggy? She much more interesting and I love her smile.

I'm cheering for the long suffering Gladys to have a successful debut. Oscar, stay away from her! I hope Larry has more to do next season.

It's so funny that these people moan about someone being 'new.' Even they started somewhere, right?

Oh, Bertha. Never change. I lurve you.

  5. Finally saw the newest episode. That's terrifying. I had never heard of the 'shadow mansions' and poor Paulina. I'd love to know more about her case and maybe a true crime podcaster could bring more light on it and dig in.

I was surprised that someone as famous as Anna Nicole would have been 'on the menu' so to speak. Or maybe she didn't know about it. It does seem that the Playmates from the 90s seemed to have had a good relationship with PB, but I wonder if that's due to him being married to Kimberly? It sounds like she kept a tight rein on him. I'm merely judging this by Pamela Anderson continuing to do covers and I believe Jenny McCarthy has done a few as well.

Wow, I never knew that Hef's friends set up "Shadow Mansions" for Hef's cast-offs before now! >:(

It broke my heart hearing about the friend who was carried off, never to be seen again, and her telling his father she hadn't seen him.  :-(

Is this a new episode or did I miss something? What on earth?

Learning about all of these horrendous stories now just makes me angrier that E! made “The Girls Next Door.” It really white washed the whole sordid, exploitative, abusive Playboy history by playing to a new audience of impressionable young women who watched and thought it was all fun and games. But Bridget is So SwEeT! That show and the Kartrashians were so toxic, IMO.

Every time someone mentions on of TGND, it's always said that Bridget is the nicest person in real life. What you see is what you get. Her and Holly are still close. I'm amazed that B never got a job hosting a game show or something like that. She, IMO, appeals to both men and women.

  8. Just finished the most recent episode. My heart continues to break for these women. Those poor women abused by Jim Brown, and poor PJ. These women were sex dolls for these disgusting men. They did not count as humans.

I’m amazed after hearing PJ’s story in particular that she went back to work the next morning after Cosby raped her.  Who knows what her financial situation was at the time and maybe it was easier said than done but why didn’t she just quit.   I hope she eventually got the counseling she needed after that horrible event.

She probably was in disbelief or a fight or flight mode. My heart breaks for her. She thought he was a friend and knew him for years.

I didn't like the journalist who claimed that it was easy to say that Jim Brown and Bill Cosby were rapists because of the color of their skin. They did get away with it. For decades. No one wanted to believe 'America's Dad' Cosby was such a trash person in real life. I don't know much about Brown, but I'm sure he was seen as the all American wholesome athlete.

Each episode gets sadder and sadder.

  9. Please don't make Claire an addict.

Ugh. Malva and Allen. Tom Christie is actually a good guy and hopefully if they stay closer to the books, we'll get to see that.

Interesting tidbit - Nathan Lane and Christine Baranski played ex spouses in The Bird Cage, one of my faves.

They were both in The Bird Cage, but Christine's character has a one night stand with Robin Williams' character and had a son.

In the second episode, when Tommy was high and having a conversation with his penis, he said that Heather had been "too conservative" for him, which I took to mean that she didn't want to make a tape.

Bobbie Brown mentions (in "Dirty Rocker Boys") that this must have been a Pam thing because he never brought up wanting to video them having sex. Her book has some funny and, of course, crazy moments. She was friends with Dave Navarro and had to go by his house to pick up a book and he's wearing these sheer pants and shoots up right then and there. She has a fun encounter with singer Bobby Brown and they tease each other about stealing each other's names.
