James Cameron Criticizes Marvel and DC Characters: ‘They All Act Like They’re in College‘ and ’Really Don‘t’ Have Relationships

I'm pretty sure at this point that all the different promotion/PR firms in Hollywood just instruct directors to take shots at superhero movies because it's the easiest way to get attention.

  2. Philly is the 4th largest media market in the US and Harper is one of the biggest stars in the game that people love to hate, so I imagine that Philly making it over San Diego isn't hurting the networks feelings too much.

They'd obviously rather have the Yankees but Houston is basically the recurring villain of MLB right now.

  3. It's pretty weird that the 1st/2nd place teams aren't going to play again until Tuesday.

Getting my opening round predictions in, I'm going Cards and Mets advancing in the NL and Rays and Mariners winning in the AL.

  4. The Falcons, after going 3 and out on 3 drives in a row, deciding that they didn't need a passing game anyway and just running the ball on, 14 consecutive plays including a touchdown, then just continuing to almost exclusively run for the rest of the game was probably the best coaching adjustment that I've ever seen from this franchise.

They should have done this ages ago.

Ironically, the last time that NFL had a flag football game at the Pro Bowl, rookie RB Robert Edwards absolutely destroyed his knee, it was so bad that the doctors almost decided to amputate the leg and everyone thought his career was over at the time.

Granted that game was played on sand, which probably contributed to the injury, but still it's a dangerous sport and guys that big and just jumping, running, and cutting are always going to have injury risks.

Edwards did manage to make a comeback years later and played 1 more season in the NFL as a backup before having a couple of really good seasons in the CFL.

  6. Bruce Timm: "Okay, so this is the relaunch of Green Lantern, so the first act of the movie is just going to be Bruce Wayne and Barbara Gordon going on dates and having sex, it's really important that we establish this relationship as it's the cornerstone of the entire Universe and that Barbara is much better off with Bruce than she was with that loser dweeb Dick. Also that it's totally normal for a guy to date the ex-girlfriend of the kid he raised, and that no one should read anything weird into it. All the other characters need to be supportive and tell Bruce what a great match he and Barbara are and how much that dork Robin sucks. Anyway, Hal Jordan is going to fight Sinestro or something in the background while all this is going on."

The problem being without more mutants or Inhumans I can't think of anyone yet introduced  who is anything more than a super soldier.  The actor can't be too big yet to afford and already a villain to meet the theme. Maybe Mickey Rourke, with Tim Roth already in use. A paroled Justin Hammer by Sam Rockwell to update the older Red Guardian like he did War Machine could be a joke on the Crimson Dynamo joke used in Black Widow.

I thought they'd be heavier on new to the MCU characters from the comics, like Atlas, Songbird, Moonstone, and Fixer, mixed with some established characters like Yelena and Walker.

As it stands this isn't even really a villain team. Bucky is a hero, Yelena and Walker also both are established as leaning more to the good/heroic side after their most recent D+ series spots, Ghost and Red Guardian are more anti-heroes and MCU Taskmaster is another brain washing/mind control victim.

If they wanted to use more established figures, I think that a theatrical film would have probably had higher "dibs" on Abomination and they've got possible options like Agatha or Mordo out there.

  8. The Falcons looked poised for a big win in week 1, switched to a prevent defense in the 3rd quarter (the 3rd!) and even pulled the entire starting defensive line and just watched the Saints stroll down the field.

To maintain this level of incompetence across coaching changes, front office changes, and roster overhauls is almost impressive in a way.

  9. I'm a little surprised that, other than Ghost, this entire team is pretty much just hand-to-hand combat types. No energy blaster or flier or speedster types. Not even anyone above super soldier level strength wise in the mix.

Maybe they're holding off on a few reveals, but that's a team size that's getting a bit unwieldy if they add more.

Finished S3 in my rewatch tonight. I was surprised to see going back over the conversations that I didn't enjoy S3 that much when it first aired. It definitely gets better with repeated viewing.

Erica annoyed me greatly the first time I watched, I do remember that LOL, but not nearly as much this time around. I guess it's because I know she ends up being very useful and isn't just there to be the Snarky Younger Sibling Who Won't Shut Up and just gets in the way all the time. I had forgotten that Will donated his D&D manuals to her. Nice touch.

Okay, Billy is still an asshole, but him crying over his childhood memories does get to me. Shut up. I do now firmly believe his father killed his mother and that's why they had to move (see my previous posts upthread about this theory) so El's repeated "She was pretty, she was very pretty" and his reaction to it made me choke up.

    Spoilers for Season 4 -

      Hide contents

It was quite jarring to see Max being just fine emotionally at the end when she was helping Will and El pack, harassing Dustin by singing with Lucas, when we know that in S4 she is an absolute mess over Billy's death. If they knew that was the route they were going to take her down they should have made her more pensive at the end of S3.

The last shot of Max in S3 is her sitting alone in Billy's room looking sad, I think it's pretty clear that she's keeping a lot of her emotions hidden from her friends during the earlier scenes.

    Spoiler

Which then plays out in the way she's largely isolated herself from them at the start of Season 4.

I predict that Johnny gets fired from Uber for having no filter (plus the way he drives, as we saw in the trailer), like what happened with his maintenance job in Season 1. :P

I wonder if it’s Mike Barnes or Silver that Daniel fights and gets a black eye from.

Johnny will have a negative star rating

Grace talked to her. She knew her dad was coming how therefore the avalanche story was a lie. Leland was obvious from that point.

They had a plan ready to go as soon as the call came in though, so they clearly already suspected Leland was holding Andy before the Avalanche call.

Which, I mean, they should have suspected something is up because those "calls" with Andy were so blatantly fakes, but it invites the usual question of why they didn't take this suspicion to their mother or tech wizard Ben.

I've really enjoyed the girls messing with Leland via the game. Not sure why it occurred to them or would think he had anything to do with their dad but it was a brilliant trap! I think Kristen and Ben have a bit of chemistry and he also has such a great relationship with her girls so I think it would be interesting to test that out if Andy is ever permanently gone.

I would guess that at this point the one creepy dude who has been stalking their family for 3 seasons is their first suspect for anything bad going on.

Kristen's solution to getting rid of the demon by inflicting it on that douchey guy is hilarious. A little mean, but hilarious.

Kurt has truly gone off the rails. Either he didn't actually look at everything he typed, or worse, he did, and decided it made complete sense. I hope the ending Laura created isn't actually about to come true.

Based on what Grace told Kristen, it seems like Lexis really didn't see the manager as a demon and being in a loving family is keeping her from going over to the dark side like her grandmother. Of course Grace could immediately clock that something is off about Sheryl. When Grace told Sheryl she won't hold her responsible for what happens, I thought at first it was about Andy, but I guess it was actually about Leland coming after Grace. Grace also told the kids their dad would be home soon, but, uh, I'm not so sure about that. And why didn't she tell Kristen about what Sheryl's up to?

Was not expecting the Monsignor to die saving Grace from Leland. At least Leland got injured too and Grace will be able to tell everyone what happened.

Hopefully this is some 4D chess where Grace had to let Sheryl take the info to Leland so he'd make a move on her as part of some bigger picture move to take down Leland and Demon Corp.

I've always had this weird idea in my head that Wakanda is landlocked, so it's been an adjustment to this.

And no, I'm not sure why.

That's how Wakanda has generally been depicted outside of the very earliest maps that had it on the Atlantic. The most recent location in the comics has it bordering Lake Victoria (though it is named Nyanza in Wakanda)

i agree with El bringing Max back to life.  Really?  Since when does she has this power?  IMO which will probably be unpopular, what does her powers really do?   It took her too long to bring the helicopter down,  she hasn't closed any of the gates for long and she did nothing much to Vecna.

I was so sad Eddie died.  I really liked him and I enjoyed his guitar solo.

In S1 El was able to make the bully kid pee his pants, presumably by using her TK to squeeze his bladder, so I guess she used her powers to preform CPR and get Max's heart to start pumping again.

  18. On average 140 Million children are born each year on Earth. If we assume that number is cut in half because of the snap that's around 250 Million children born post snap.

That's Earth. The galaxy/universe in the MCU is filled with intelligent life, so the births on Earth are likely a drop in the bucket compared to that total in the universe.

Considering unmaking, very conservatively, the billions of children born in the universe over the previous 5 years should be absolutely staggering to even consider.

They have, reasonably, 3 options, 1 is to do nothing and leave half the universe unalive. Option 2 is to bring half the population back to life. Option 3 is to prevent 50%+ of the population from dying in the first place but in the process effectively making everyone in the universe under the age of 5 no longer alive.

Maybe it's just me, but the morality seems clear.

To a point, you could make the same argument for SHIELD being in possession of the Tesseract after Howard Stark discovered it while scouring the bottom of the ocean for Steve and his plane. Because they either lost or misplaced the thing for, what, most of a century after Rogers disappeared, only using it for Phase Two weaponry after Thor and Loki visited earth the first time. Yes, they're both objects with lots of power, and it's never made clear what Agatha was doing with it if she wasn't reading it herself, because otherwise why have it around at all? The only reason Wanda found out that she was in the book is because Agatha told her she was, but how would she have known that without at least doing some skimming of it?

They had it under lock at Camp Lehigh and Howard studied it during that time, then they created PEGASUS to study it at some point, leading to the FTL engine and Captain Marvel's powers.

Where is Max's mom? Lucas and his sister are sitting vigil at Max's bedside while she lies in a coma, but her mom is nowhere to be seen? The only times I remember her being shown this season was in one of Max's trances, when she hugs Max to comfort her - then turns into Vecna, and in one of Max's "happy memories" which is her hugging Max before she turns into Vecna (not sure why that was a happy memory when it wasn't really Max's mom). They couldn't have shown her outside the room privately talking to a doctor, or getting coffee at a hallway vending machine, or sleeping in a chair in the corner of the hospital room while Lucas was reading to Max? Sure, they have briefly shown the parents of the other kids where they are largely oblivious to everything going on, but none of their kids was lying in the hospital in a coma. Her absence just seems strange to me.

She's at work, those hospital bills aren't going to pay themselves.

I think it has something to do with the four portals - when you connect them diagonally there is a cross an in the middle of X is Henry's house and the attic.

That's how I saw it in one of the scenes

Oh wait, but yes, Max was killed in his house so...there goes my theory

Vecna's house was one of the 4 starting points, the intersection was at the Hawkins Library. The Library (or the upside down version of it) was where the Demogorgon took Barbara and Will after it captured them in S1.
