  1. https://www.google.com/amp/s/deadline.com/2021/11/this-is-us-cast-bonuses-final-season-parity-jon-huertas-milo-ventimiglia-mandy-moore-1234880037/amp/

I find this fascinating. I am always surprised not more casts don’t go the Friends route. But in this instance, it was clear which actors have emerged as stars. And just in terms of creativity, the actors who play the Pearsons are the clear main characters. Love Beth, Toby and Miguel, but I cannot say that their characters are as centrally important to the show. But parity, nonetheless.

    Quote

Original cast members Ventimiglia, Moore, Brown, Metz, Hartley, Watson and Sullivan previously negotiated big raises after Season 2 when the actors, who had started at different compensation levels, all went up to $250,000 an episode. They have maintained parity ever since.

  2. Yep, once the tournament announced the changes, it just made complete sense for Johnny and Daniel to combine forces. And given Daniel’s car salesperson experience, they could have done a better job of attracting more students, especially if all one needed to do is provide more attractive swag.

  3. I have little patience for Redeeming Assholes storylines and this season had a lot of them: Tori, Eli, Anthony, Silver, Kreese. Eli’s was the most effective because: 1) we saw him do the work of contrition; and 2) he (more importantly, the writers) did not expect people to forgive him. But I am hoping that next season stops with giving assholes sad backstories.

I am not the biggest fan of Sam, but I have absolutely no problem with her hating Tori. Her behaviour is not great but compared to what happens on the show, hardly qualifies as criminal. If Tori really attended her therapy sessions, what would her therapist have thought that she got into a fight at an after-prom party?

  4. Prada could be made as a “period piece” even if somehow the current times are miraculously void of harassment. I enjoyed Prada, but I figured Streep and especially Blunt played those cool funny antihero’s that you’re supposed to hate but actually love, blah blah. I mean, there have been enough articles about how awful the friends and boyfriend are. Not sure this couldn’t be made today when something like Succession exists.

  5. I liked it but wished I liked it more. They really went in with Zoey’s self absorption. I wished they did a number that involved the entire cast. The coworkers were not given much to do. Simon had nothing to do. But I have to say I loved JAG, uhm, Lumber Jack.

the Call Me Maybe number was the best of the night.

  6. Joy Lenz is my favourite Hallmark actress, and Tyler Hines’ makeover combined with his Chandler Bing schtick worked on me BIG TIME. Unexpected Christmas is my favourite Hallmark movie this year, tied with A Kiss Before Christmas.

The movie with Reba was pretty good. I forget that she really has a lovely voice. Caroline from The Vampite Diaries was charming, not sure why she doesn’t lead one of these types of movies.

  7. I have seen and really enjoyed Rent, but knew nothing about tick tick boom. Seeing the trailer and seeing the Bohemia scene, I just assumed that “Oh, a biography on Jonathan Larson and how he created Rent.” Took me awhile to realize that this was an actual musical.

  8. If Gucci is a solid hit (especially compared to non franchise adult fare these days) where does Lady Gaga land among established movie stars with a bankable reputation? Their weekend will probably make more money than The Last Duel overall.

I would love to see a resurgence for Nina Dobrev after the success of Love Hard. A Netflix romcom Queen.

And with Tick Tick Boom’s critical success and the Princess’ financial success, can Vanessa Hudgeons emerge as the HSM star with the most respectable career?

  9. Count me in as a big fan of Kiss Before Christmas. James and Teri still have that chemistry, added with that level of comfort between to actors who worked with each other for a long time. My favourite sequence was him trying charm the Alternate version of Hatcher’s character. The restaurant scene with them where Hatcher questions why her other self didn’t end up going to law school (“You made me quit my career?!?!”) was funny and sweet.

  10. The allusions to Rent were interesting, especially when two major characters in Jonathan’s life “settled.” I think it could be argued that the characters in Rent were significantly younger, so Michael and Susan may have been more idealistic their younger years.

Very good movie but a truly exceptional performance by Garfield. Truly brilliant.

  11. Love Hard is the best Netflix romcom ever, in my view. I won’t dispute its problematic premise but the two leads have adorable chemistry, a lot of scenes had a lot of thought and care to them, the family dynamic really is dynamic, and Nina really emerged as a romantic comedic actress.

  12. Joelle is my favourite character the first two seasons but then they lost the plot when she united with Reggie. He treated her like crap, I was shocked they stayed together after all that.
The show’s main problem for me was the overemphasis of Lionel and Gabe, people who got more credit for their contributions than they deserved.

The show’s strength was the power trio of Sam, Coco and Joelle. It was weird to see Sam with Lionel so much.  Coco was secluded and Joelle was being mistreated by Reggie.
