  1. Rounding. The directions included a "round to nearest whole number" step. For some teams, that was 8 (8*576=4'608); for the others, it was 7 (7*576=4'032).
  2. "I'll forget the fanny pack debacle because at least they remained mostly calm about it and rationalize that someone would show up with it." Normally that would be true, but with Bergen & Kurt not getting a car there, it wasn't guaranteed (although that was not to be expected at the time). In fact, for a while I thought that had actually happened...
  3. I'm wondering how much information was in the Detour clue. I'm seeing a worrisome trend of forcing teams to make important decisions with key information concealed. That just replaces strategy with either luck or ability to read the producers' minds. (Granted, Roadblocks have always contained an element of that, but in the past the Detours balanced that by allowing teams to make a decision based on their own skills/position/etc.) On top of which, the random Date Night awards could prove overly important in allowing teams to ward off KF... Hooray for kitties! I would definitely have stayed a few extra minutes to get some purring (see above re: KF). The trouble with Metal Castle was a bit surprising--having researched the matter, that is the literal meaning of Loha Prasat. Odd that the locals would associate it with the term Metal Temple (the name of the temple it's part of doesn't reference metal--it's the Royal Niece's Temple). I don't see most of these couples rating the kind of mate the producers were contemplating...
  4. Game show prizes are simply taxable income, so the tax is at your bracketed rate. For most shows, you have to pay the California state tax immediately, but since TAR doesn't take place entirely in CA, I don't know what rules apply in that respect. As for cash equivalents, that is up to the particular show. I know the Price is Right not only doesn't offer cash equivalents, but they don't even allow you to transfer trip prizes. The last part, we know to be false for TAR. Taking 10'000 steps a day is one way to meet the current exercise recommendations.
  5. Looks like her real name is Rochelle Nevedal--she plays for the Small Town Outlaws near Traverse City under derbyname "Rochella de Ville."
  6. Hmm... I think I would have taken a different approach to that final task. The first thing I would have done is locked into my mind the order of the cities, before even entering the maze. So (to take one of my stranger trips as an example) "Charlotte, Philly, Vegas, Spokane..." over and over. Then, when a city on the list appears, substitute that number into the sequence. "Charlotte, 4, Vegas, Spokane..."
  7. Not really wanting to get into a theology debate here, but there were rich servants of God in the Bible--Joseph of Arimathea, Lydia the seller of purple, and even Job (before and after his testing period). On a more concrete note, basketball is the #1 sport in the Philippines (at least per Wikipedia), and manila paper really was initially made there.
  8. No, that's what an Express Pass does. The Save is its more powerful big brother. (Which raises the question: does a team that uses the Save face a Speed Bump on the next leg? If so, they have to have one ready on every leg, although with a Pit Stop's worth of notice on actually setting it up--or else have a task that either is a Speed Bump, or if they don't need one it becomes a regular race task).
