Anyway, this season seems really cheap and overtly artificial to me, like they’re trying to manipulate you to feel a certain way but aren’t putting the work in so you don’t feel manipulated. It’s like bad fan fiction, especially Mirai’s crying piece. Blah.

Agree, but that's how I feel about every season now.

.......As for the figure skaters: I grew up watching skating in the 1990s. I was spoiled. We had Kristi, Tonya, and Nancy when I was a kid, and then Michelle all the way until the new system came in and killed the public's love for the sport. Two women won gold medals who were not Michelle Kwan, and I don't even care about them, but suffice to say, we had winners. All the time. This "bronze medal" BS from the team event just grates on my nerves. The team medals have only been around for 2 Olympics now, and we basically won it by default. Meryl and Charlie were gold medalists. Kristi was a gold medalist. Nancy had Olympic silver and bronze to her name. For pete's sake, Tonya Harding has a world silver.

Neither Adam nor Mirai have world medals to their name. Tonya accomplished more in her career than they did. I understand Adam's being on the show for his personality and personal triumphs, but I really have no patience for touting them like they won individual medals. Neither of them were anywhere near the podium in the individual event. The Shibutanis won the team bronze AND an individual bronze medal in ice dancing - the only individual figure skating medal brought home in South Korea. I am wondering why they're not here instead. .....

I'm not a huge fan of the Shibs, but they seem to be intelligent and PR-savvy.  Maybe they are smart enough to want nothing to do with this crappy abbreviated season and will hold out for a full season, or (gasp!) nothing at all.  Cuz if the Kween herself signed up for today's version of this show, I'd lose a lot of respect for her.  I think Kristi was lucky enough to do the the show when it still had some respectability left.

It’s fine not to like Mirai or her personality. Clearly you were not the only one with that impression. I was just genuinely wondering if it was something specific she said/just providing some context as someone who has followed her career closely and watched many interviews with her over the years.

I'm not the poster this was directed at, but I'll give my opinion.  It really turned me off that she was campaigning to be on the show.  And there are just too many skaters on this season, so I'm inclined to not like any of them.

Adam and Jenna are already on my nerves, as is Mirai. Her dancing reminds me so much of Meryl Davis and that brings back horrible flashbacks of my least favorite season ever. I really liked Josh a lot (he reminds me of Rashad) and would love to see him and Sharna win but I think the script is already written for Adam and Jenna. Val in the front row in a bright orange jacket didn't hurt. All that was missing was the dog inside his jacket.

I feel like Adam and Mirai are being overhyped and I'm tired of them.  As soon as Josh danced,  I forgot all about them. :)

I will watch tonight but other than it being a C Brother free season, I am so not interested this year.  (Which is unusual for me.  This is my FAVORITE show usually).

That's what people in my house are saying.  It seems people will just vote for their favorite athlete going in, or their favorite pro, since there aren't going to be enough weeks to become enamored with someone new.  I'm glad nobody I really like is on this season. It's such a waste.

I don't remember that season but wow, that Danny Tidwell guy could really dance. Thanks for the clip.

    Season 3.  Love Danny.

As for rumors about the voting for this dwts season, it all just sounds like a big mess.

I liked Mirai Nagasu until her bizarre interview that she didn't really care after bombing her individual competition, she just wanted to be on Dancing With the Stars.  I'm so sick of the blatant overexposure of Adam Rippon.  And no doubt the story about how the two of them sat on her roof eating In N Out and crying that they didn't make the 2014 Olympics helped a lot in getting them both on this show, it was probably a package deal, like Meryl White and that curly haired partner of hers.

    Liked +5!

Okay, but those are people who are 1) Superfans and 2) An average age of 16.....

I thought the average age was more along the lines of 70 for that particular fan group.  ;)

All I have to say about this season is Go, Sasha.! Great opportunity to see what you're made of.

Poor, sweet Sasha. What did he do to deserve this?

Ugh, Jenna is going to be insufferable if she manages to win with Adam, isn't she?

I dislike  Jenna and would have a hard time supporting  any partner of hers.  In this case, I'm not an Adam fan either, so this pairing works for me.  I'm sure they're both hard at work practicing making love to the camera.

I usually end up liking contestants that I've never heard of, so that would be Johnny, Chris, and Jennie.

They already have Adam for the "controversy" storyline and he's hell of a lot more likable than Harding.

Why is Adam controversial?  I thought he was fairly viewer-friendly and I expect him to be a fan favorite. Is it because of his comments about Pence and not going to the White House?  It can't be because he's gay.  They've had other openly gay contestants on  before, even a trans contestant.

Because the show has never been solely, or even mostly, about talent, but popularity.  I think she could be the best dancer they've ever had and she'd still be voted off first.

True. Or she could be the worst dancer and stay for quite a while.  If TPTB want her to stay, they can make it happen. Or the reverse.

I think some people kept dumbass Lochte on the show way past his expiration date because they thought he was cute. Tonya, however, would be the first voted off.

The show loves to have contestants who create buzz.  If Tonya is drawing in viewers, I think she will be kept on for a while.

On a side note, is the guy Jeanette (Jett) married the same guy that appeared on the show? I think she was shown on a date or something during the shows run.

Aw, so she married Cory, the musician.  Cool!  I liked him.

Brother's restaurant opened in March, 2017.  He said that filming commenced shortly after that.  March is a rough month in Colorado as it's the month when we get most of our snowfall.  It has also been known to snow right up to the first or second week in May-especially in the mountains.  So, production certainly must have known conditions were likely to be challenging in the early spring.  While I feel for Lee Anne, she had to know what she was getting into.  It's no secret Colorado is a high altitude state and it would make things difficult in pregnancy.  I've always liked Lee Anne but question the fairness of letting her back in the competition considering she's not only been a contestant, she was an employee of the show and has intimate knowledge of the inner workings.  She has a distinct advantage.  Having said that, I wish her well with her baby and hope everything is fine.

As was mentioned on the first page, the filming took place the second week in May.  I live near Denver and we had snow on Mother's Day the first two years we were here, and that wasn't even in the mountains.  So, snow was definitely a real possibility, even a probability, in that area in May.  My guess is they were planning on it being on the ground, but maybe not actively snowing.

  15. Anyone remember Nick Spangler (Nick and Starr), winner of Season 13?  I went to see the national touring production of American in Paris last weekend and Nick played Henri, one of the male leads.  I thought he was excellent in the role.  Surprisingly good.
