  1. I don't think 15 year old girls (or boys) are allowed to refer to themselves as "old souls". It's bad enough when somebody else gratuitously applies that tag to a child, but its definitely not something you should say about yourself.
  2. Substitue Sisaundra for Christina and I could probably support your list. Christina really was terrible in several of her performaces. She was also great in a couple, but she was bad enough times that its hard for me to really put her in the top 5.
  3. Agree with this, with the caveat that the beginning of the season had endless repetitions of Radioactive, Stars, Counting Stars, Halo, etc. But from the top 10 on in particular, American Idol has really expanded its song selection. And...the band seems like its doing a better job.
  4. I enjoy both shows. I've only watched AI for a couple seasons, so I don't have the same amount of burnout that a lot of people have. I was as turned off by the Nikki Minaj/Mimi dramatics as I was by the Adam/Christina drama in Season 2/3, but besides those flareups, I like both shows. To me the difference is, as judges (as opposed to coaches/teams), American Idol positions itself to a place where the actual criticism is possible. Doesn't mean it happens (and gets boo'ed by teenage munchkins when it does), but the criticism is possible and wouldn't interfere with the "game" aspect in the same way it causes problems on the voice. I don't want to get rid of the team structure, because that's part of the Voice "package", but it would be nice if there was a "5th coach" whose job it was to attend all the practice sessions and critique the performances. Televised, of course, for our entertainment. This particular season, I'd say that the last 3 on AI are better than any of the last 5 on the Voice. I wouldn't have thought it would turn out that way at the start of the season. AI was looking terrible at the beginning. I think it only had 3 good people to begin with, but they all made it to the end.
  5. Does Grimmie have any awesome stuff on Youtube that I should check out so that I don't feel as bad about her being in the finals? Both her and Jake have real glaring pitch problems that SHOULD eliminate them from getting this far, in a world where I was the sole vote.
  6. I would have preferred Kat in the final instead of Christina, and I am fairly ambivalent about Jake and Kristen, so either one of them is fine (but I would hope that neither win). As a person who did not feel the Kristen magic, I will say that Foolish Games was very nice. Was a great performance that showed the potential that she has if she could get out of her shell when on stage.
  7. I imagine Lucas winning Rockstar: Supernova must have bugged you then, if you watched that show. He was definitely enunciation challenged.
  8. I find Kristen to be extremely mediocre. Nothing that she does really moves me, even when she is singing songs that I like (f'rex "Let Her Go"). She is better than Jake, however, so I hope she stays long enough to see him eliminated. I like Kat, but basically that is because I like rock music, and she is the only one bringing it. I don't see her getting the votes to get to the final without some sort of game-changing performances (like otherKat's Sail performance, which bought her an extra week). I guess I'm team "hat wearing garden gnome" now.
  9. I wasn't feeling well last night, so I may have watched the show through impatient, bitter colored glasses, but I thought it was all garbage last night. The people who could sing had terrible songs. The people who had good songs were terrible. *edit* Some terrible people sang terrible songs. Sisaundra and Josh are the only two that I would have a problem being eliminated.
  10. Lily have you ever checked out any of Rebecca Loebe's music on Spotify (or your music streaming service of choice)? Check out the "Bees & Zombies" E.P. It's really really good. She is one of a small handful of Voice contestants who I think have very strong writing skills.
  11. I loved Season 1 as well, mostly for Dia & Xenia & Blake. The one memory of the season that I can't get out of my head is the horror that was the Dia vs. Serabee battle round (You Can't Hurry Love). It was so awkward that I think I watched from behind my fingers until it was over. Just imagine how different that season would have been if Blake had chosen Serabee (which, honestly, I think all 3 of the other judges would have).
  12. Not with these coaches. Imagine the fun that would ensue if Gaga or Adam Lambert coached for a season, however...
  13. And on top of that, it really couldn't compete with Usher's group performance, which was pretty awesome.
  14. If Blake wins this season, I think it pretty much has to be with Sisaundra. Jake and Audra, though they have their moments, just don't sing in key often enough, and usually America weeds out the off-pitch contestants. It's still a popularity contest, but its usually a popularity contest between equally bland but talented singers.
  15. I think that Bria's voice is fairly genre bound. She sounds great when allowed to do the style that her voice sounds great on. She doesn't sound too great outside of the box. Having Bria sing non-gritty or non-bluesy songs is a losing proposition. Not a knock on Bria, however, as I like her when she is doing the kind of songs that she is comfortable with. I think that most of Blake's country singers would have the same problem, but Blake doesn't try to bump them out of their niche. In fact, with his country singers, he probably does a good job of identifying specific styles/artists within country and pushing them in that direction. I'm not particularly upset with last nights results. Of the 3 who were in danger, Kat definitely deserved the save. I've got to believe that Jake's time is coming soon unless he can really work on his pitch and enunciation.
