Part of what I think still keeps the show enjoyable is that I get the feeling that this cast probably has a blast making it. Their enthusiasm at the silliness and OTT of everything is contagious. Boy, I'd love to work on set during some of these scenes, preferably as Daniel's leather apron wrangler. Mmmm hmm. ("There's not even a hole, I'm just mashing my dick against it" or whatever his boulder-banging line was... good lord, he's really become a master of blending hilarious, uncomfortable, and sexy.)

This. Like Oregon Trail, the jokes are a little too hackneyed (oh no, the married people need to spice up their sex life; oh no, the main character is getting older and can't party anymore; etc), but there are little moments (and guest stars) that will keep me coming back because I like this cast and they are having fun. Plus DanRad may show his ass again and I don't want to miss that.

They turned Jamie's story about what happened in Amsterdam into a joke, almost ("No, she loved it")

But that's not what happens in that scene. Jamie starts to share his trauma relating to his first visit to Amsterdam and Roy replies with sympathy, "That must have been traumatizing." Jamie replies glibly, "Nah, she loved it" and you can feel his dad coming through in that moment. It's such a quick response that you can tell it's a trained response to telling that story. But Roy didn't respond initially the way most men Jamie (or James) told that story to and he doesn't respond to Jamie's glib remark, just lets the moment sit. Then Jamie shares "Oh for me? I don't...I don't really remember it." He's blocked it out because it WAS traumatizing and he is starting to feel safe enough with Roy to talk about it and maybe start processing that experience. He goes on to talk about his mum and their trip, but how his dad was always there. And we see that his dad is STILL there from the earlier response and things like Jamie doing that little fake punching thing (on the Skinny Bridge) that his dad does in Man City. James Tartt is in Jamie Tartt and Jamie has to figure out what to do with that.

  4. I really appreciate Nick's thoughts and motivations on this and it gives me a better understanding of the character and where the show was trying to go.

I guess my problem is...I didn't get it. I didn't see the pauses in Rupert's office in the beginning as Nate not being comfortable with what he's done, but simply that Nate isn't a confident guy in general or that he's in over his head, but he still feels he deserves it. As someone in the episode threads summed up brilliantly, the show really "showed their work" with the layering of Nate's insecurities with his rise in AFC Richmond in season 1 and the full heel turn in season 2. I guess, they tried to walk it back in one season what they walked forward in two and it didn't work for me. Jade being part of all of it didn't work for me either because Nate's such a walking red flag about women (even as the "catharsis" is coming to an end, it's all about "my girlfriend" and never "Jade") that I can't imagined changed just because he met the right one.

Maybe I'll rewatch season 3 straight through with this bits in mind to see how it all fits together, but when your actor has to write a three page letter to fans to explain how it works, the storytelling failed a bit IMO.  But obviously, Nick did a brilliant job in layering all of these things and working on this character to really make us believe in the first two seasons and I wanted more to bring us back if this is where it was going to end up.

Guess I was the only one who wondered if all the future stuff was a dream since Ted wakes up on the plane as it's landing just as that flash-forward wraps up? (If it's not a dream, why are we back in current time after seeing all the future things? Just weird.)...

I definitely thought it might have been a dream as well since we flash right back to the plane and Ted getting home. But someone on Tumblr pointed out that Ted can't dream about people he never met (like Rebecca's Dutch guy, etc), so perhaps it is a flashforward in the midst of Ted's present?

I lost track of the "Believe" sign somewhere in season 3. Wasn't it taped together and rehung at the beginning of the season? When and by whom did it get ripped into so many pieces for the jigsaw re-assembly?

Isaac goes to touch it before playing West Ham and it falls in two (then he touches Jamie to see if he has powers 😂). Trent finds the surveillance footage to see that it was Nate. Beard and Roy show the footage to the team during halftime and they lose their minds in a flurry of red cards. When they get back to Nelson Road, Ted gives a speech that Believe is more than a sign and rips it up. Apparently, after that, the boys each took a piece instead of it being thrown away.

I never paid attention to that spot above the door to notice it was missing until last night but I assume it was.

The posted episode thread is "So Long".

In the last week, I saw the episode was listed as "So Long, Farewell" before tonight.

Did AppleTV officially remove the ", Farewell"?  If so, that seems to potentially indicate tonight's episode is more a season finale instead of series.

Apple TV+ still has it listed as "So Long, Farewell" in the app 🤷‍♀️

Just as weird is the Cast not promoting the finale. I get there’s a writer’s strike and it’s important to support that but I would guess promoting the series they’ve wrapped is in their contracts.

Part of the strike is not promoting content of the struck company of which Apple TV+ is one. Add to that the fact that late talk shows aren't happening, there's not a lot of venues for promotion if they wanted, though the cast does seem to be posting on their Instagrams.

Phil shared some BTS photos from season 1 today: https://www.instagram.com/p/Cs4bLrFyM53/

  9. Yeah, he was delightful! I mean, all 2200 of us were primed to find him hilarious (lots of AFC Richmond gear on folx as they walked in), but he really delivered. It definitely felt like a club show, not a theater performance/show which I’ve found rare for comics.

He only interacted with the audience a little (even the Q&A was from a box and not a mic), but it felt authentic. There was even a thing at the end where he was like embarrassed to do his final bit for us, but we screamed and he killed it.

  10.   Bringing this over here as it probably doesn't belong in the episode thread, but we don't have a Brett/Roy thread.

So, you're just going to toss this off as an aside? I feel like it should have its own thread. 😉

Sorry - didn't mean to be vague about this! So for those who don't stalk Brett's Instagram, last month, he did his first theatre show in Seattle, which sold out in about 10 minutes. Which led him to announce a show in San Francisco at a local 2200-seat theatre for yesterday - which sold out in about 5 minutes. So he added another show today (which sold out quickly) and led him to add ANOTHER show on Thursday (which may still have some tix). In a fit of Fangirl Madness, I bought front row tickets for me and three friends (which ended up being third row tix because they dropped in two rows in the orchestra pit) and we went to the show last night.

There was an opener - Pat something - who was okay, but not really the same vibe as Brett's standup or really the room in general, so it was odd, but quick. Brett had 70 minutes of stand up - some bits he's honed, some he's working on, some he wrote VERY recently. I laughed till I cried for pretty much the whole time and he was delightful. His smile really does light up a fucking room! No photos or videos allowed and the people around us were pretty respectful (because there were at least three security guards in my eyeline since we were so close to the stage. I'm sure folx farther away could sneak pics since they didn't take our phones like I thought they might). After he finished his last bit, he brought a box of questions on stage (which apparently were real - given his response to a couple - but I didn't see the box folx were putting the Qs in when we came in) to answer for another half hour or so. There were a few drunk folx behind us that started screaming "Roy Kent" when he mentioned Ted Lasso, but he jokingly told them to SHADDUP and they did. (I did support them when they asked for proof after a question about how hairy his arse really is - he did not oblige LOL!) Didn’t leave the venue until after 10pm!

Given how quickly the Seattle and SF shows sold out (and the price of the tickets), I would definitely be on the lookout for more gigs around the country as Ted Lasso press wraps up (especially as the writer's strike continues). Much of his material is about the differences between the UK and America (it's much funnier than I'm making it seem - there was a whole bit about what you call it when you touch a dog that still has me in stitches!), so I can definitely see him heading out on a standup tour as the year goes on.

  11. Quick thoughts because it's after 1am since I was at Brett Goldstein Live this evening and only got to watch now.

So Roy and Keeley are just back together? I'm into it since the break up never made sense, but it feels a little too easy. I am happy that we've dealt with the Ms. Bowen situation; I never really felt any chemistry with them, but I'm happy that she's done.

I don't get what's happening with Nate, but I guess with two episodes left, we're just rolling with it. So, Nate quit after Rupert invited him to cheat or dump Jade or whatever? Like, Rupert being a scumbag with women is super common knowledge given that Nate worked for him before (or at least the club - who knows how involved Rupert was at Richmond) and in the tabloids when we join the story in season one, but I guess inviting Nate to do the same was a bridge too far? But his dad apologized, so everything's good. And he wrote Will a four word note, so I guess that counts as well. I'm still puzzled by the entire Nate arc this season, but it's become very clear that this is where we are now, so there's no use handwringing anymore.

In a shocking twist to literally only Keeley, Jack's VC firm pulled funding and left Barbara to deal with the fallout. And since it was obvious, Rebecca is clearly going to fund her. While I don't love that it took Roy apologizing to her for being shit for her to get her groove back, I'm just happy that Keeley Fucking Jones seems to be back in the building.

Edwin Akufu is such a delightful weirdo, even as he causes problems for our fav, Sam. Luckily, Sam has learned to roll with it and here's hoping that Edwin finds something shiny to distract him the next time there's a call up.

Rebecca's speech was nice, but ultimately completely unbelievable. I believe that she believes it, but there's no way she convinced those other rich men to ditch out in 10 minutes. Don't buy it, even if I love that for her.

    Fav parts of the episode:
    1. Roy's Uncle's Day Party, featuring JAMIE TARTT! OMG! I was losing my mind the whole time, especially with Jamie bringing such a fabulous gift for Roy. AND we got to meet Roy's sister, even if she didn't get a name. Plus Roy walking around in that tie-dye shirt ALL DAY was absolutely wild!
    2. Jamie checking on his actually BFF, Sam, after Sam didn't get the call up. Such a mature boy, that one!
    3. Jamie using Sam's number and getting to play in the game.

I'm sure there are things that I missed since it's late and the episode was over 70 minutes long (my god, the finale will probably be longer than a Marvel movie), but we're moving at a fast clip towards the end and I'm excited to see where it goes!

  12. I'm pretty sure I have never laughed as hard at this show as I did when Roy chastised the team for not sticking up for him not having a hairy ass and Isaac agreeing with him. Even if this season isn't as even as the previous two, each episode has something like that brief moment that will absolutely break me open and I love it!

So Rupert met Jade and found her wanting. Luckily, Jade very clearly had his number from the jump (which I'm sure he ALSO didn't like). I was annoyed that Nate still seems to have that Bambi look about him with Rupert - like yes, he gave you this job and a car, but in the last nine episodes (which covers months and months), you REALLY haven't noticed how he treats people (never mind he MUST have seen it as the lowly kit man when Rupert owned Richmond). While I definitely thought Rupert was certainly just going to stand him up, him trying to hook Nate up with a "better" girlfriend was also par for the course. I'm glad Nate didn't go for it (though the long hug with Jade left me cold), but c'mon my dude. Like this is reminiscent of season 1 Nate, which would be a nice change from the guy who puts his players on a Dumb-Dumb Line and won't say hello in the morning - but WHY is he changing? I feel like I skipped an episode or something because we're getting the redemption without anything backing it up. I still sigh when I see the West Ham stadium. I know there's 3 episodes left and this is happening whether I care about it or not, but damn, I hate how they mishandled the whole thing.

Oh, Isaac! Every time he gave Colin the cold shoulder or wouldn't even give him a fist bump, I kept saying to myself - do NOT like him be as homophobic as he's acting. Now, would that be realistic? Absolutely - but I don't want this show for accurate depictions of professional football. I want everyone to be friends and playing FIFA at the end. So Isaac majorly dropped the ball in the midst of his own shit and while Colin had every right to be mad or upset it, I'm happy they made up in their own way.

COLIN! I kinda hate that they robbed us of the actual moment, but I did enjoy the aftermath. Ted's story was just a touch too long and ridiculous, but I'm happy that Colin got the love and support from his fellow himbos that we knew he would. It was also great to watch Trent watch the whole thing.

(Also absolutely LOVE everything looking at Jamie as another potential gay footballer and his beautiful reaction [which was NOT a denial LOL!]. Thinking about Jamie from season 1 and loving his growth in that moment!)

The Roy and Rebecca showdown was a bit on the nose (and damn, that was some insubordination there, Roy! You USED to date her best friend which may have given you some privileges, but you do NOT any more at YOUR choice.), but needed to happen. We've got three episodes left and I really hope as Roy mentors Isaac and his anger that Roy will starting DOING THE WORK that needs to be done (which will also hopefully lead to a Roy and Keeley reunion).

Roy's press conference was gold and also a complete product of Ted's tutelage. That long storytelling at the press table was such a Ted move with some Roy spice and I'm here for it! Also love that he doesn't know anyone's name and he likes "New Trent" better than "Old Trent" with whom he shares an office.

Happy to have Keeley back at Nelson Road, even if she doesn't seem to be doing their PR (as it seems she would be busy with the Isaac vs fan situation if she was). So Jack has fucked off to Argentina instead of breaking up with Keeley - bye, bitch! I'm just sad that Keeley would even want her back after that all thing last week. C'mon Keeley Jones, Independent Woman - get your groove back already!

Probably not one I'll watch again, but I really like where we're going in these final three episodes - prove me right, show!

Nate is regretful, but not remorseful. He's a sad bunny because he's realizing that he misses the Diamond Dogs and the culture at Richmond, where everyone matters. But so far he's shown no actual remorse for his cruel, mean spirited treatment of Will, his absolutely devastating critique of Colin, and of course his mind bogglingly selfish and spiteful vent to Ted, who noticed him, encouraged him, and brought out the best in him as a coach. He's just "Oooh, I miss my friends at Richmond". But takes no ownership of what brought him to West Ham.  His pettiness, his seething rage, his overweening ego that made him think that any positive attention to anyone else was a direct shaft to him. Kindness and encouragement isn't pie. You don't get less if someone else gets some. I know the show wants us to root for his redemption but until he has a come to Jesus moment and owns what he's done, the show can miss me.

Exactly! And he's really not even "I miss my friends at Richmond" so much as "I never got to talk about girls with the Diamond Dogs, so I'll round up a few randos from my new job and talk about it with them." Like the accountant guy seemed nice, but we have no indication that Nate has been nice or even cordial with ANYONE at West Ham. So it's wild that he's like, okay, now I'm the Ted character in this office and everyone has to listen to me. Ted usually speaks the least in any conversation that the Diamond Dogs have (that we've seen) and it's rarely his issue that collects them together (until recently).

Like, I'd love to see how he actually saw things happening at Richmond (like a Bad Blood episode from "the X-files") because he so wildly misrepresented everything that happened based on what we saw that it's shocking he's participating in the same reality.

I would have rooted for season 1 Nate to ask out the hostess at his favorite restaurant (while not spitting - blech!), but not after she hadn't ever been nice to him. I just...the show folx seemed to be surprised that everyone turned on Nate after they made him so cruel, sullen, and against Ted, but I'm still not sure how we're supposed to feel about him now.

At this point, I don't want bad things to happen to him (though I'd love for Richmond to beat West Ham on the pitch), but I simply don't care about him having an extra story in the last season of this show. He "lifts right out" (to use a phrase from "Friends") and I don't need him if they aren't going to show him doing the work (like Jamie) or interacting with the Richmond folx (like Keeley). My fav episode so far has been "Sunflowers" in which he appeared only in Ted's hallucination and that worked fine for me.

I have been pretty disappointed by Keeley's plot this season, I like the idea in theory of her running her own company, but its seemingly made her drop several IQ points, led to her nonsense break up with Roy, and kept her away from the rest of the cast, like she's on her own show with the occasional cameo from Rebecca.

I was really, really hoping that after Keeley finished reeling from the video being leaked that she would put on her Keeley Jones, Independent Woman pants on and actually do PR for herself and the other women affected by the leak. There should be lawyers involved - for the hackers, not for Keeley. I really hoped we'd see Keeley circle the wagons, start working together with the other celebs' flacks to put out a GOOD statement about what happened.

When Jack offered to make it go away, I thought that Jack was rich enough to actually call in favors to get stuff taken down. With enough weight and cash, you can move the world. I mean, KJPR is a public relations firm, so Keely wouldn't need anyone else to tell her what to say, how to spin, what to do next - that's literally her entire job right now. I just kept waiting for Keeley to step up - after she read the BS statement from Jack, after Jack canceled their appearance at the polo match (and never told Keeley!), after Jack distanced herself from Keeley at mini golf. Obviously, I don't know what it's like to have a sex video released about me, but I just kept hoping we'd see the old Keeley in there.

Maybe now that Jamie has taken accountability for what happened, she can start to get her groove back!
