  1. Also, without giving away any spoilers, many of the other men are already married, which narrowed down the options for this last minute wedding. Remember, they're suppose to deliver Claire the next day. And quite frankly, although many of those left available wouldn't mind grinding corn with Claire, I doubt many of them would want to be permanently tied to this very opiniated non conformist woman for all time. It's obvious to everyone jamie isn't oppose to her "character flaws". Add that to the fact that jamie marrying an English woman takes him mostly out of the running for Laird of Mckenzie but keeps him loyal to the Mackenzie's. Then IF he should die then Claire would inherit Lallybroch, a stretegically important piece of land, and whoever married her AFTER that would then get and control of said piece of strategic land. It's a win win situation for the Mackenzie's. For Jamie, he gets Claire, whom him obviously feels something for. He gets a wife, which in his position, was going to be nearly impossible (no father wants his daughter married to an outlaw and few women would want to live that life). He gets a full time healer (which he seems to need on a regular bases). And he gets to piss off BJR by keeping Claire out of BJR's clutches. That's a better deal than he ever thought he would get. For claire she is immediately saved from BJR's clutches. She will have permanent protection under Jamie's family and the Mckenzie clan. She'll be given more freedom to possibly get back to the stones. She gets jamie although that maybe subconsciously acknowledge. And she gives the gift of a hot steamy honeymoon to all of us loyal fans. It's a win/win for everyone except BJR so why is anyone questioning it?????!!!!! We get to see more of shirtless Jamie, isn't that enough plot??!!
  2. I know this will probably be unpopular. The "virgin" dialogue is my favorite from the book so maybe I had built it up in my mind to unrealistic levels but I felt let down last night when it finally happened. In fact, if I hadn't known it was coming I would have missed it. I felt like Sam delivered it like it was a throw away line. And in the book, it always felt like Claire was on the verge of a nervous breakdown and her, "does it bother you I'm not a virgin?" Was one last desperate attempt to get Jamie to walk away from the marriage. The whole scene seemed much too relax and casual and throw away to me.
  3. Yes, very lippy and the whole fake banging off the dirt on his jacket and boots in the doorway in the line of sight of everyone was a clear message that Jack thought they were all useless strutting peacocks playing at soldiers while he was a real soldier. Then when he pored out the wine onto Scottish dirt after the general told him not to get dirt in the wine was subtle genius in showing Jack's true nature. Not sure how historically accurate it is, but I've seen in numerous stories the same power play that was between the general, a showy in title only military officer who is newly assigned to oversee a dangerous post and insists on living the life of finery and Black Jack Randall, a real soldier who gets down and dirty in real squirmishes and disrespects the showy peacock type that are regularly rotated to his post. Usually the new gentleman General gives the BJR character a lot of lead way in his arrogance because he knows that it's the Randall's of that world that do all the dirty work. And the Randall's of that world get away with the lippy attitude because they know they're need and eventually the peacocks will leave and a new peacock will replace the last but BJR will remain.
  4. I hope Tobias Menzies gets nominated for an Emmy. Claire was perfect while listening to Black Jack. The look of horror and shock mingled with her inner turmoil that these evil words were coming out of a face that resembles her honorable and beloved husband was gut wrenching. And since I knew what was coming, it made it really heart wrenching to see her have a glimmer of hope that Black Jack could be redeemed. I only wish they kept the line he said to her in the book after he punched her. Evil SOB.
  5. I'm about to say something I may regret but I have to say it. I LOVE Sam as Jamie, so...my oh my oh my, be still my beating heart. But Sam as himself in all the pictures I've seen are just MEH to me. I don't find him attractive at all out of his Jamie character. If I were advising him, I'd tell him to never never appear in public or take a picture without a kilt or unkempt red hair and a smudge of Scottish mud somewhere across his face or bare chest.

I've been thinking about Angus and the other men's apparent cold shoulder to Claire in this episode when it seemed like she was becoming more accepted in the previous episode. I think Angus may still have been upset with Claire's "Spanish" sedative. Not only did she trick him but he probably got reprimanded by Dougal or Collum for not keeping an eye on her. Which then leads to putting Jamie in a dangerous position when he tries to help her to get safely back to the castle, which is acknowledged by Murtagh when he confirmed it was all Claire's fault. So now Murtagh (who probably realizes Jamie has a soft spot for Claire, which is dangerous for Jamie) and the men who like Jamie are probably a little upset with her for endangering Jamie's position. And although Jamie figured out a great way to handle the oath ceremony, Dougal and Collum seemed like they would have preferred not to have taken a chance in the first place and may be upset with Claire for being a lose cannon. When I watched the scene with Angus pulling Claire out of the waulking room I feel he's more upset because she disappeared and they couldn't find her and he was going crazy searching. He probably got yelled at by Dougal for losing her again (so soon after the Spanish sedative incident) plus a touch of worry that she was ok. He sounded more like an upset parent when they think they lost their small child in the mall and when reunited starts scolding the child.
  7. I love Claire's hair and her skin is what I dream mine should but doesn't look like in the morning after sleeping in a vat of moisturizer. If that's what the Scottish highland air and water does for skin and hair, the Scots should be packaging it and selling it to the rest of the world. I would pay a pretty penny for that look. Speaking of looks. I love the way Claire looks 10 years younger and sweet whenever she and Jamie have their moments. Especially when she hands Jamie her blanket outside her door in Rent. It's only a few seconds but it totally transforms her face. Jamie too. They really did a great job at casting these two.

First time poster, long time lurker, so thought I would just jump right into it. Hope that's ok.ITA, it hasn't been that long. Plus Claire is a bit distracted with trying to figure out how to return to her time. I doubt she's thinking she's going to be hanging around the 18th century for very long so why should she focus on learning a new language that she won't need back home. Learning a new language is hard when you are in your mid 20's and beyond, especially since everyone around for the most part speaks English. If they only spoke Gaelic then she would definitely be forced to try harder. But as of now, Gaelic is mostly used for formal ceremonies, political intrigue or when someone doesn't want to include her in their conversations. If and when her position on her circumstances changes (I'm assuming her agent has informed her by now that a second season has been picked up so she's stuck for at least 10 more episodes) then I'm pretty sure she'll become more proficient at Gaelic. Taanja lol. Your comment reminded me of the scene in 13th Warrior where they ask Antonio Banderios how he learned their language and he tells them, "because I LISTENED!". Claire should take a lesson from Antonio, although in her defense she does have bigger issues on her mind.
