Completely agree. It's a pie challenge you should be encouraging them to make their own dough. They've certainly given chefs on this show and others guff for using premade pasta dough instead of making their own. They could have removed all the premade dough from the kitchen so they had to make their own, or leave it as they did and used self made vs pre made dough as a determining factor.

Yeah for reality talent based competition shows I definitely prefer watching ones where I'm rooting for someone and not against others.

I mean, I guess with non talent based reality competition shows I still tend to root for people I like, but since those are more social games as opposed to who has talent games all you really have to base your opinion on is personality.

Yeah, that statement by Drea is ridiculous for several reasons.

1] The game has changed so much since the beginning that it's unfair to compare early season players to later when advantages started appearing.

2] Sometimes just cooking rice and talking is the best strategy for any gender. Dominating challenges, unless you can do it for the long haul can be detrimental. Same with going out and looking for idols. If people see you acting shady it just puts a target on your back. So cooking rice isn't a "big move" but sometimes it's the best move.

3] It's just insulting to the women who have played this game so well before her.

I assume she's making a mailbox for all her bunnies. Or maybe a game board version of Mario Cart. We know there are turtles on the island, please don't let her put those shells to use.

I also sort of think that Daniel going fishing and talking about it as one of those Survivor moments really just showed that he knew his days were numbered. If his tribe won immunity he wouldn't last long after the merge and if they lost immunity (which, they did} they'd be dummies to keep him versus someone who could compete in challenges. So why not enjoy a couple of hours doing something that you enjoy and you probably won't get to experience again.

Last season he asked if anyone was offended by the term "guys." I believe the question was brought up because of gender identity/pronouns/etc being such a prominent topic. If I remember correctly at first everyone said they were not offended, but Ricard changed his mind about it and said he was so Jeff dropped it.

ETA: "offended" may be the wrong choice of word on my part. Could have just been prefered.

I know Mike said that he doesn't care for soccer and who knows if he or Daniel told anyone else on the tribe, but I feel like it wouldn't be a bad decision to talk at least a little about soccer at camp so his phrase doesn't seem so weird. This of course also depends on if any of his tribemates know about soccer and him not having knowledge would be a giveaway.

I didn't see this season when it first aired, but it is one of two available on Netflix and wow, jerk is the kindest phrase you could have about that guy.

Whether or not it seems like Jonathan's dad isn't ideal, Jonathan doesn't seem to hold resentment towards him. He seems to give his father credit for some of the positive attributes he has. Whether that was because of his father's discipline or because of coping with it, I don't know. Can someone get Tori in here?

I don't think he came anywhere close to her, but the bamboo does seem to split towards her foot. Also, Jonathan was handling the machete in a safe fashion, unlike when MaryAnne swings it around like it's a play thing.

Okay, playing Devil's Advocate here, the only reason I could see it being okay for Daniel to be fishing and also want to excuse himself from the challenges as often as possible is that there is no need to go faster, tug harder or otherwise over exert yourself while fishing. I can see a person being okay to do a task as their own pace but not being okay to do a task at a competitive pace.

I haven't been paying attention to what he's doing around camp workwise though and I do think he'd use any excuse to avoid challenges so he can't be blamed so I doubt very much that this is the case.

Oh, they absolutely do -- as well as psych evaluations. Most shows will also require that they see the shows doctors. But having HAD COVID or any other communicable disease doesn't disqualify them immediately. Sure it's a risk, but that's what insurance (the shows] is for.

Pre-COVID shows certainly tested contestants for diseases, but that didn't stop them from allowing contestants with STDs on shows where hook ups were bound to happen. Looking at  you Big Brother and almost all MTV shows.

I took it as the other chefs. I thought he mentioned in a talking head that he didn't want to reveal that he had a weakness that they might be able to exploit. I don't think he said this, but I'd also imagine if the other chefs knew he couldn't smell and taste well they'd be hesitant to work with him on challenges.

I don't think he'd have any opportunity to talk to the judges about it. From a story telling POV it's much better if they didn't know and can "act" shocked or surprised. Part of me thinks that he will ace the blind taste test and everyone else fails, he breaks down crying and the judges question why and he says it then -- this is pure speculation.

The Producers definitely know. They're the ones who ask the questions prompting the talking heads. I'm sure they knew before they cast him. The camera crew, sound crew, editors, etc probably all know as this is a huge part of Jackson's storyline, so they watch out for sound clips and shots during the cooking phase to highlight this.

As for the judges, probably? They're producers, too, how involved they get I don't know.

I chuckled cause during my insomnia last night I watched "Is It Cake?" on Netflix and the first challenge was make a cake shaped like a fast food item. That was just the first episode -- the rest varied: there was a shopping one, beach one, kids party one, etc. Of course while they are introducing the bakers they show things they've baked before and it ran the gamut. Food items that we're not cake was up there. It never surprises me what people want cakes shaped into.

For anyone missing Making It! Netflix has a show called Making fun. It's not a competition show, it's 5 experienced makers putting together silly ideas from kids. So if you like the making aspect maybe check it out.

[BB In The Media: Outside the Fishbowl]

The MTV Challenge still has plenty of drama, but it's been toned down a bunch by some of the fav contestants getting older and more mature. CT especially. I don't know if they cut down on the amount of alcohol in the house, but it seems like a lot of the players just don't drink, or don't drink as much as they used to.

The CBS version is bound to be way tamer, way less physical but will probably have conversations that you can follow as the MTV version has to bleep out a lot. ETA: To clarify, I'm sure they'll have to bleep stuff out, but with the contestants coming from CBS shows they'll more conditioned to not curse as much.

I'm assuming since they don't even fake tease it that nothing happens with MaryAnne and that machete, but holy hell did anyone teach her basic safety? I grew up splitting wood with axes, sledges and chainsaws and so I respect not to fool around with any of those tools. Sheesh, even a kitchen knife you don't mess with. Though I don't think she's long for this game anyway. Can't see her tribe throwing a challenge as they're already down a member, but feel like she's first to go.
