Cloak & Dagger & The Marvel Cinematic/TV Universe

With Runaways debuting on freeform on some type of deal with Hulu. Marvel's about one step closer to connect it's whole universe as I imagine there will be crossovers in the future -

Unless Cloak chooses to release them, the darkforce devours their life force and they come out all withered and dead. -
More I think about it, the more I'm tentatively fine with Tandy's actions as long as there's consequences. I believe they were hinting at them with Mina's murder of the bee. But if nothing comes of this other then dirty looks, I will be severely disappointed.

Without going too much into spoilers, I assume the beatdown was to set up season 2. It just came off as a bit clunky. I get that they had to make her the aggressor, but why have them break up the fight the first time and make them the cause of her beating? I assume they were going with the fact that the cops were either too scared or didn't care enough to break up the fight ala kitty Genovese, it didn't work that way thanks to the aforementioned intervention.

I hope this show has the balls to go that route, but I doubt it. More like, oh shit my boyfriend who likes being a martyr is already aligned with the other half of the divine pair and he's probably going to die. In terms of origin stories there's not many shows like this. Flash might be the closest and even he had mentors, this show has to be slow by design. That way when the two finally team up in the finale it has more of an impact.

Oh hi Stan Lee. -
1. ABC, CW, Hulu, Netflix, take note. This is how you do an origin story on your heroes, you don't need pretty villains, or comedic side kicks or even cute bro/sis mances, you create your heroes, give them a backstory and trust it to come to life on the screen. This is the most impressed that I've been with a show in a while. 2. Evita has her own powers. Nice, let's see how that plays out going forward. 3. 4. That being said, trust your audience, we get what you're doing. You don't need to tell us step by step. 5. This gaining powers off screen thing needs to not become a thing. Also, that stealing hope as a drug metaphor was extremely forced. 6. On the fence about the priest. On one hand, I appreciated that he had a dirty secret in his past, on the other hand, he wasn't on the show enough for me to really care about it. 7. Oh hi Liam, nice to see you return. I have a feeling the taking of the money was more of an impulse thing then something permanent. 8. I assume the cops that just watched are on the payroll, otherwise, it makes no sense they would stop her but not him. 9. I love that Tyrone and Tandy don't hold back in their arguments. they go for the throat and that's awesome. I even love that scene at the end with the dagger and Tyrone not even flinching. Really looking forward to the season finale.

It seems that Marvel learned their lesson from the agents of shield fiasco. According to the show-runner, it's a Marvel directive that all Marvel shows take place before the infinity war until such time as the sequel happens. -
Her motivations are she's a survivor. She grew up having to take care of herself and her mother. As much as I might not like her treatment of Tyrone I get why she does it. Poor woman doesn't know how to have friends. She's grown up in a world where everybody wants something from you and the only way to get what you want is to take it. While admittedly, this makes her hard to identify with, character wise it makes sense. She's just learning how to be a friend, it takes time, won't happen over night.

At about 1.11, the Starks and Rands are bought up by evil CEO dude. Season 9 and 10 previews so tread carefully if you'd rather not be spoiled. -
At about 2:14 you see the second explosion that gave them their powers, their powers likely remained dormant until they activated each other at that party where they met again. I'm ultimately on the fence about Tandy. You can see where her mother raised her to look out for number one and not to form relationships, however at the same time Tyrone's going out of his way to bond with her for her to continually use him makes for a tough watch. Doesn't make her as likeable or sympathetic as I'd like. Her reaction to her image of her father being broke, kind of rings true. Here she's deifying him and she sees something like that and if he's capable of beating her mother, what other heinor secrets are in his past ( Roxxon boss even hinted at it)? I'm surprised there isn't more talk about the foreshadowing of Tyrones death/ self-sacrafice.

K I don't know whether to be impressed that they did a good job building up to that reveal about the dad or roll my eyes at the drunk promiscuis mom being a beaten house wife. I'll choose both I reckon. It was definitely fun watching Ty use his powers to haunt the detective. So now we're into act III. Shits going to hit the fan, Tandy just absolved roxxon , the cops know about Tyrone It's on. Are they afraid to say Luke Cage? Why would she mention Misty in that instant? Yea, she's their PR person. Every time she's on the phone, that's who we see her talking to. He's a naïve kid , I get why he thought that would work. She's worked around Cottonmouth and Mariah, she has no excuse.

So the showrunner's going on his "please don't cancel my show" tour and revealed some stuff about season 2 ( mostly it'll be more super natural enemies) He also revealed the guy in this scene is infamous cloak and dagger villain Mr. Jip: -
Ty's almost definitely talking to the one person on the show that knows about superheroes, Detective Oreilly.
-
Not really filler. Fairly necessary episode as it drops a lot of information on us, pushes tandy and tyrone closer together and we finally get to see them use their powers together. This is the episode where they became cloak and dagger.

So in the new comic, they get rid of Dagger's controversial "tit windows" by moving her cross to the back, but then for some reason decide to give her heels? -

To be fair, this is the third time that Tyrone has teleported in front of the detective. Tends to lose it's shock value after multiple viewings. -
To be fair to Tyrone, he was trying to get the detective to hear what was being said and it was an urgent situation. Didn't really have time to text. I believe the drug dealer was scared of the darkforce. Looks like Tyrone's learning how to control it. As that was our first pure view of it. Poor tyrone 1 step forward 2 steps back. Yes Tandy really is a bad con artist and apparently can't take a hint. She clearly doesn't want to talk about her father, find another way. With both finally getting their powers under wraps, hopefully we can get an explosive final few episodes
-
I always assumed her driving off meant that she bought the new ID but since they never explicity confirmed it, I'll accept that. Having hacker skills is a pretty major thing to keep hidden. If she has said skills , why does she even need her dry cleaner connect for anything other then to sell stolen items? In episode 4, he said when I touch people I see their fears, we've seen Tandy use her touch powers to see her stepfather's hopes before she got control of her dagger powers. It's easily contradicting things shown in the show for plot convenience.
-
Same thing happened with his mom in a non-tense situation. Its pretty much been a thing that if they touch people they see hopes/fears, regardless. Hell, Tandy was using it before her suicide attempt. His touch/fear thing just seemed to suddenly appear and disappear during the game when it was convenient to the plot. Should've been established earlier then five episodes in that she could do stuff like that. For now, I'll give her the benefit of the doubt and assume her dry cleaner connect did it. No idea where she got the money for that, but I'll ignore it for now.
-
I assume things like "check your privilege" amongst other things. I can see the argument. Because at times the show does seem to like congratulating itself on how it handles race-related issues that it sometimes foregoes realism.
-
1. For the love of god, make Cloak's powers consistent. If he's suddenly reading everybody's fears when they touch him he should be reading more people's fears. He's being touched by a whole lot of people. When he's having sex with his girlfriend, that should be a horrifying experience for them both. As he's seeing her fears and she's getting sick. 2. Did the coach not realize Tyrone wasn't there when giving his halftime instructions? 3. Just have one of your writers watch some basketball games and learn the terminology. If Tyrone is a star basketball player and a starter he would not refer to himself as a sixth man, even if he was being modest. 4. Wouldn't it be easier and less obvious to have Tandy brush hands as opposed to grabbing necks? 5. Why is Tandy the one apologizing when Tyrone told her to kill herself? 6. Tandy's poor poor partner, not only did she break his heart but she also left him in jail after he got arrested helping her. If he turns into a villain, I wouldn't blame him. 7. So we got confirmation that Detective Brigid was indeed the detective from Luke Cage who's now in New Orleans. 8. Is Tandy a hacker? Has that been established? How did she get herself a whole Instagram profile out of thin air? 9. Interesting twist having the friend be in league with the crooked cop. We'll see how that plays out going forward. 10. That sex scene at the beginning was clearly there for the promos as it had no bearing on anything.

Nope she's a character just for the show. Their story in the comics takes place in new York, there is no voodoo. -

Detective oreilly who moved to new orleans is mentioned in Luke Cage episode 8. -
It's weird greg's death didn't really have much of an effect on me. Hopefully those who thought the series was going too slow liked this episode as things started coming together. Dagger can control her powers and Cloak has his costume. Especially like the ending with Cloak finally figuring out a way against the system and Tandy seemingly ready to at least challenge her problems. Props for use of the environment and for challenging race issues. Not so much for your approach to challenging the gender line. Very well acted, could turn out to be my favorite marvel show yet. depending on if they can stick the landing.
