  1. I feel like JB and Michelle will try to "take over" as far as the couple is concerned. They already don't have "control" over Derick since he is a college grad, works for a regular company rather than in a business etc. Living on their property is a way of controlling them just a bit. I hope they live there and Derick treats it like any other living situation -- i.e. if they want to go away for a weekend or go on vacation or visit his mom or invite friends to visit, I hope they do just like any other newlywed couple. I think JB and Michelle will try to "separate" him a bit from his family -- they are large and overpowering in numbers, while he only has his mom who is ill and his brother. Somehow I don't see that happening though. Jill is in love with him and if he expresses to her that they really can't spend all their free time at the Duggars watching her bros/sisters being unruly because his mom is sick and he is worried, I can see her understanding that and spending time with him and his mom even if it cuts away from family church or whatever. Unlike Chad, I don't see Derick wanting the unruly siblings to sleep over -- maybe it's because the Bates kids seem more well mannered than the Duggars, but I don't see him starting the "we'll take a few siblings every weekend" thing. I do see Jana, Jinger, Joy, Jessa hanging out there though -- but that would be more on a friend level and frankly good for them to see what a "normal" conservative man can be like.
  2. Hopefully that doesn't mean that we'll be seeing peach and teal bridesmaid dresses -- in case the guys' ties are matched to the dresses. Alyssa Bates had some bright clashing colors . . . .
  3. I think they're controlling the release of pics very carefully so as to give people a reason to want to watch the show. If everyone sees all the family, bridesmaid etc pics in advance, the show is less relevant. I think the truck is the legit getaway car, so I'm not sure how the Crown Victoria comes into play. It may have made sense if they got a few sedan service cars to take immediate family to/from the wedding -- I mean Jill had to get to the church somehow with her 19 sibs and if they were already dressed at home, you may not want to be jumping out of a bus in your wedding dress. But the pic is confusing because it seems to show Derick helping Jill into the Crown Victoria. My only guess -- the truck was for the final getaway; maybe Jill and Derick were driven from the reception to the after party in the CV and then left the Duggar compound in the truck.
  4. If the truck was the getaway car, I'm wondering where they're going in the Crown Victoria?
  5. I assume that there was an actual reception someplace where the bride/groom were still in their dress/tux, they cut the cake etc. I assumed the gathering at the house later was the "after party" as it was really casual. There are pics of Jessa in a sweatshirt and Josh/Anna casual -- even though Anna had been a bridesmaid. And David Waller said something about fellowshipping back at the house and that social media wasn't allowed at the wedding. I thought that mean no pics of the ceremony/reception and then the "close" friends were welcome to come back to the house and casually hang out until whenever -- the Kellers, Bates etc.
  6. As much as I think JB and Michelle are all about attention, I can kind of see why they used M's dress along with Derick's dad's uniform. These kinds of things are typically side by side presentations of both sides of the family -- I've seen a childhood pic of both the bride and groom; pics of the bride's and groom's parents; etc. It would've looked odd to have something from his family and nothing from hers. I'm glad it was just 1 dress, not something that represents their 19 kids.
  7. Anyone else think it's obnoxious that Jeremiah said to a magazine that he wished they played more pranks at the wedding and that it's good that Derick is a good guy because he's stuck with him as a brother in law? Who says that?? It's not like these teens have never been around the media before, you'd think they'd have some media savvy. I have a feeling there were no or almost no pranks at this wedding. They may have shown more "respect" for Derick and his side since they aren't fundie and may not have found the usual lost-the-ring, trash the car kinds of pranks funny because they aren't used to seeing them in their own circle. Ben OTOH won't be spared.
  8. I feel bad for how hard Derick has had it at such a young age -- with his family. If JB and Michelle were different kinds of people -- maybe more like the Bates -- I feel like they'd surround their new son in law with love and support so that their home could be his downtime/his place to re-charge so that he can support his mom. Somehow I don't see that happening with JB and Michelle.
  9. Yes. It's in the People magazine article.
  10. Are they having a full fledged dinner reception or is it more like the Bates and Josh/Anna -- a few appetizers, candy, cake and you're out of there? I think fundie receptions are shorter than most since there is no dancing and often no sit down dinner, though not sure what Jill/Derick are doing since their rehearsal seemed to have actual food -- it would be odd to feed people the night before but not at the wedding itself. I know I've heard from couples who've waited until marriage that it was better for them to be done the wedding/reception by late afternoon/early evening because that gave them a long time in the hotel to start trying to consummate. Some do that night, some don't for a few days or weeks, but it's better if you're not showing up at the hotel at 10 pm exhausted and then wondering if you should or should not try that night. It's possible that Jill planned the timing this way for a reason.
  11. I'm not surprised that they were practically sleeveless. This religion believes that the man has authority over the woman -- so if Jill and Alyssa Bates wanted to go sleeveless and Derick and John Webster had no issues with it, then their parents couldn't exactly stop them given that this is the day that authority is being transferred. The reason we didn't see it from Anna and Erin is that Josh and Chad are more fundie and likely would not have allowed it.
  12. I really hope his mom was well enough today to at least be at the ceremony and some part of the reception for Derick's sake. He lost his dad so young and now for his mom to be sick before he's barely even married and has his own family is awful. Longer term Jill and her kids would do great having Derick's mom's influence on them -- to teach them they can be Godly but still have regular lives and careers. I fear that with her health -- she and her husband will of course focus on her for a while which will give JB plenty of time to "take over" as the main in-law in the couples' lives.
  13. They look good -- love her veil, his suit and tie, and the flowers -- and they both look so happy. Does he always have those huge bags under this eyes though?? Don't remember seeing those before but he look like he's exhausted or has been crying.
