  1. Yeah, well, err, damn show. Just when I think you can't get any better you go and pull and episode like this out of your pocket. Since I happen to be one of those who thinks Kady's storyline gets short shrifted most of the time, I absolutely loved every single scene with her in it, particularly with Pete, who's been greatly missed since season one. I got a kick out him still having a thing for Julia after all this time.  Kady becoming the leader of the Hedge witches was great as well.

Fen is also one of my favorite characters and it was great to see her come into her own, with some help from Josh. Speaking of which, I continue to ship Josh and Margo...hard. Their bitchiness in the middle of yet another crisis was just...neat.

While I don't love Alice, I thought her brief scene with Fogg and Zelda was pretty interesting. The fact that she's still managed to elude the entire Library shows just how clever she is. Granted, they also have an uprising of Hedge Witches (led by a seriously pissed off Kady) to deal with.

Loved, loved, loved the whole bit with Penny 40 and his "subordinate" in the library. That's how you frame an episode btw. Seriously, the writing on this show rivals anything that HBO is putting out right now.

  2. I continue to love this frelling show. Nothing really earth shattering happened in this one (well, Margo might have rocked Josh's world) but I enjoyed it it quite a bit, even if Kady and Dean Fogg didn't make an appearance.

I'm not sure if we're supposed to feel sorry for Plover or disgusted by him. Bit of both I guess. Alice remains my least favorite character on the show. I'm not sure why really. I've just never warmed up to her and I find myself looking at the computer screen when her scenes are on. They need to wrap this part of the storyline up soon. While I like the library, she's just taking up time in the storyline.

So, Julia is STILL a Goddess? And now she's got followers? Yay? I'm not sure how I feel about the Julia/Penny 23 arc but I'm down with it for now. I admit to being something of a Penny/Kady shipper but let's see where this goes.

The stuff with Quentin and Monster/Eliot was well done if a little slow paced. Appleman and Ralph have enormous chemistry together.

Yeah, Margo and Josh. That came out of left field somewhat but then again, I guess I can see it. So, Margo's a werewolf now? How exactly does that work on this show? It doesn't seem to be that much a problem...not like say, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" bad.

I don't know who got fucked worse in this episode....Quentin or Josh.

I'll probably have to go with Bacchus because at least those guys are still alive.

This show gives me all the feels.

I used to think the most tragically impossible love story was Margo/Eliot.

    But it now I think it’s Quentin/Eliot.

Quentin/Eliot/Margo needs to be a thing.

And very briefly in S1...it was.

I remember barely participating in these threads. I felt so alone because Julia is my favorite character.

There were always a few of us around. Our numbers started improving somewhere around the time Julia got her shade back at the end of S2. Of course since then, Julia has been made of win. I suspect the Alice fans on the other hand have been pulling their hair out of late.

  7. Oh man, I am so glad this show is back. I've missed it terribly. Great opening episode, after all the chaos of the S3 finale.

    1. Poor, poor Alice. I did laugh a bit at the Santa Clause in the next cell. This show's sense of whimsy never ceases to amuse me. Is it wrong that I actually feel bad for the Librarian. Under all that "We're the bestest thing in the world" Order conditioning, I detect the remnants of a decent human being who's genuinely trying to reach out to Alice, if only in a vain, self-deluded attempt to replace her own dead daughter.

    2. Kady as the tough as nails cop took me a little bit by surprise considering her background and the scene from the end of the S3 finale but I suppose it makes sense. She's got a real talent for detective work, I'll give her that. Love the gang slowly but surely finding their way back to one another and of course everything with Margo/Janet was pure gold because...it's Margo.

    3. I like the way they didn't reveal Julia as "the new student" until the end and it was nice to see Fogg referencing what happened to her in S1 and his obvious remorse about it, as well as his determination not to let her get hurt again. They definitely have a Buffy/Giles type relationship going and it really works here.

    4. Poor Quentin. Being dragged around by "monster Elliot" and not even remembering who they both are. Watching Elliot( or whatever the hell is in his skin) slice apart that ice cream vendor very clearly tore him up-although probably not as much as the ice cream vendor.

Damn, show, I had forgotten how much I love you.

RIP Mr. Penn. May you no longer have to grovel in the next life. Also, if you pass on the diapers after two years, that would also be good.

Damn it. I had finally managed to wash that imagine out of my brain after a year. So...thanks for bringing that up again.

  9. Yeah, that finale was less than impressive. I never minded Sam (unlike most of the people around here) but him turning into the Devil was just a bridge too far. And don't get me started on the decision to kill Scarlett in the lamest of ways. Vanessa was the one real weak point among the characters in this show and instead of getting rid of her, they knocked off one of the most popular ones for, what now? I'm not done with the show just yet but only because I'll probably watch to see just how far down the rabbit hole they'll go.

Damn, Siffy. You were doing so well for a bit there but now you've lost "The Expanse" (okay not really SyFy's fault but still...) you axe "Z-Nation" and this show has just turned into sludge. All I'm gonna say is that S4 of "The Magicians" better be utterly amazing.

  10. Yeah, I'll go along with the majority that this episode wasn't as good as the first one but I still don't think it was bad. A little too much filler perhaps but they are continuing to move the story forward. We've probably seen the last of Ivy but I guess you never know. The key thing in this episode was the development of Selina (Cat) into Catwoman and setting up the eventual conflict between her and Bruce. The stuff with Jim and Harvey in the House of Horrors was largely unnecessary but at least it had the right air of creepiness to it. The petty gangs....yeah, not needed. They already established in 5.01 that these little roaming groups were around and were largely canon fodder. No need to keep harping on that fact. I imagine the main reason they were included was to show that Penguin's "bounty" on Jim is having an effect. The one big plus is that the show continues to look fantastic and the action sequences are extremely well done.

    6/10

  11. Well, my beloved insane, crazy over the top "Gotham" is back for one final run and I have to say it got off to a very solid start. Sad to see Tabitha go but I suppose we really were at the end of her arc after Butch's death at the end of S4. I have to say, I really like Jim far more this season than I have in a while. I think he's finally gotten over a lot of the angst that kept him from being an enjoyable character now that he's in pure survival mode. Despite his (many) character flaws, he's a natural leader and he really shined in that showdown with Penguin and his men.

Ahh, Oswald, you self satisfied, smug, arrogant little walking fleshbag of neuroses. Fascinatingly over the top as usual. You have been missed. Barbara, well I've never minded her that much (except for that really dull, self-pitying stretch in mid season one) and she was decent enough tonight. Of course Tabby's death has sent her (further) over the edge but that could be a lot of fun for the rest of the season. Riddler is well...Riddler. I'm interested in seeing who's going to win that little battle for control-him...or Ed.

    Not bad at all. 7/10

Or series finale. Unfortunately. It doesn’t look like many people are watching and those who are don’t seem to be enjoying.

Gotta admit, I've been rapidly losing interest in this show. The first season was pretty good, admittedly with a few flaws. Season two started off fairly strong but ended pretty lamely. Season three has just continued to slide further and further into an incomprehensible mess. It's too bad really. This show had a lot of potential early on. Sad to see it's largely been wasted.

I am having flashbacks to when SciFi cancelled Farscape.  The season-ending episode (effectively the SERIES-ending episode) ended with a HUGE cliff-hanger (because SciFi had previously said there WOULD be another season.)

    Frelling nerfherders.

After much fan bitching and moaning (someone actually took out a full page ad in Variety to lobby for the show's return) SciFi did finally give us a two-hour movie to wrap up Farscape, so I sort of forgave them.  But now I hate them again.

The Expanse is SO GOOD.  Sigh.  Thank goodness the books already exist.

This post so much. They cancelled "Farscape" in what, 2003, and I'm still not frelling over it. Siffy has got to be the most frustrating network since FOX. They give us these great shows and then murder them before their time. I"m still waiting for the other shoe to drop on Gotham after this week since FOX has been playing very cagey about renewing it.

I appreciate how the mutiny on the Agatha was portrayed. It was messy, confusing,  morally ambiguous and there was a high body count. Not all neat and tidy like a lot of Star Trek mutinies.

I like the actor who play(ed) Souther. He really portrayed a natural authority, I can see his crew would trust him.

ITA. The whole mutiny sequence was very well handled. I have to hand it to his kids....they nearly pulled off the counter-coup. That's loyalty.

"The Expanse" has managed to top "Game of Thrones" in the sheer number of punchable faces on screen at any given time.

I just can't handle any version of the Joker where he goes off the rails all of the time.  Some level of chaos is fine, just not total chaos.  He has to have some points of stability and clarity.

The point of Ledger's performance in "The Dark Knight" is that he NEVER goes off the rails. Everything he does is planned well in advance. I won't go into the details since you haven't seen it but while he's clearly a sociopath and an anarchist, he's not remotely psychotic. He's completely in touch with reality, he's merely trying to change it.

    Spoiler

And as many critics of the film have pointed out, he actually wins. He utterly destroys Harvey Dent and sends Batman into exile and by the beginning of the third film, Bruce Wayne is essentially a broken man.

If they are going in that direction with Jeremiah, then I find that infinitely more watchable than the Jerome version of the Joker.  I hated the Jerome version.

I'd be interested in knowing your opinion of Jack Nicholson's Joker then (assuming you've seen the 89' "Batman") because Cameron's Jerome really reminded me of that performance. On the other hand, his Jeremiah strikes me as being much closer to Ledger's Joker in "The Dark Knight," which I think is really awesome. This is a really talented actor who is taking a truly iconic role that's been played by some true acting legends and making it his own.
