  1. Robert and Max Brown threw this show into complete chaos. Before Max came on the scene, the show was all about Liam. The writing was sporadic, the characters were boring (Liam is extremely dull, but makes for good teengirl candy), and the plotline was secondary to getting the teengirl twitter-sphere going. The Max came in and threw that plan out the window. Suddenly they had a good actor and a compelling character. The show *should* have pivoted -- the writers clearly wanted to pivot -- but they were stuck with a teengirl fanbase that was invested in their eye candy. So now we're stuck with a show with no direction, a "villain" who is more royal and more interesting than the "hero", and writers who are desperately trying to figure out where to take the show. Season 1 was good enough to get me to keep me watching. But now that I've had a taste of Robert, I can't go back to that cotton candy show. I'd rather watch a TV show centered around Robert, evil or not. It's the difference between a fine camembert and Velveeta.
  2. I really like Michael. He has great chemistry with Jane, with Rogelio, with Petra, and his new partner. He is clearly written to be a great guy and probably a great dad. But there's one problem. His kiss with Jane? Felt fake and forced. The two actors have interpersonal chemistry, but when they kiss, it's like a bad first date. But I can't root for Rafael either. I think Jane would be happiest with neither of them. Let her explore her way into adulthood, and eventually settle down with someone in her 30s. Jane would make a fun single girl, but she comes across as a woman who needs a guy at all times. I *love* Ro's secret being that he is a scientologist, and can't wait to see what the tapes reveal. Something tells me it's about Xo, and it will cause a new rift in their relationship.
  3. I'm glad to see I'm not the only person who binge watched this already! I hate releasing an entire season of episodes at once, because good TV is apparently my crack. I can't stop at just one episode This is apparently an unpopular opinion, but I don't like how they ended the Vee storyline. All season they created an interesting, truly evil villain. And then in one episode, everyone sees the light, Vee loses all her minions (except Crazy Eyes), and is killed while trying to escape. It just feels too neat. In real life, Vee would have regrouped, found a new gang, and continued onward. She was painted as a survivor and fighter. What a waste of a character to create only to kill her off at the end of the season. I like Larry and Piper's best friend together, far more than I liked Larry with Piper. He's such a mensch; Piper was too wild for him long term. The only character I really don't like after this season is Daya. Does she really think it's loving to make your baby daddy go to prison?! His reaction is only believable if he were painted as desperate for female attention, but he hasn't been portrayed that way, and the character is too cute and well adjusted to be believable as that desperate. It feels strange to me that this season has no real cliff hanger. All of the big storylines were wrapped up.
