Donald John Trump: 2016 President-Elect
potatoradio replied to Notwisconsin's topic in Current Events & Politics
The fall of democracy starts in North Carolina. Bitter soon to be ex Guv McToilet has called a special session hellbent on gutting the incoming Dem governor's power and consolidating all state power to the white supremacists/rethugs/Teabaggers. This session was called to discuss funding for hurricane funding, but funny how a huge number of bills are being introduced that will undermine any appearance of government for the people. I couldn't even read the first few paragraphs without breaking down. I will bet any amount of money that this is a model for what's going to happen once Tubby gets inaugurated, minus the attempts to limit executive power (which they're not doing only because Tubby doesn't give a fuck and will want to get back to twittering). Which is why I ,too, will be wearing total black the day Tubby is sworn in. I'm back to choosing which will happen first: civil or nuclear war? Fun times.- 8.1k replies

Happened upon this, if anyone is interested: http://december19.us Protest calling for anyone interested to rally at their state capitol on Dec 19 to urge EC voters in their state to not vote for Tubby. I won't go near CNN anymore, but it's on the very teevee at my gym that's right above the elliptical I like (the non-squeaky one). I catch a chyron every now and again. I noticed they stopped using BREAKING NEWS and now have IN SUMMARY or something. Ha. You mean it's not urgent every time Tubby slops more vitriol or ignorance out of his blow up doll mouth? K. Anyway, today's IN SUM: "Tubby sez: Paul Ryan is like a fine wine." OK, I almost fell off the elliptical laughing so hard. More like Old Milwaukee that's been poured into a cheap plastic Solo cup, but hey, Tubby and I would disagree on 99.9999999% of everything else (that 0.000001% being "I don't want to die"), so no surprise that he has no idea what the fuck a fine wine is. Unless he considers Boonesfarm Strawberry Hill a delicate and rare vintage? -
I'm seeing this refrain repeated in so many Tubby-supporter stories. We wanted change, but...oh, wait...he didn't mean THAT kind of change, right? From an NYT article about a largely Latino community that went for Tubby: Um...hello? You voted for someone hoping he didn't actually mean what he said? Er...ya'll got punk'd. And them's the facts. Not an echo chamber. Sure, I can sympathize with being played by a sociopath opportunist, but you know what? He's got the REST OF THE COUNTRY in here with you, including me. No, I am not going to listen empathetically to your desire for change as he revs up a chainsaw to hack us all to bits. By the way...guess what the actual margin of victory was for Tubby in Yuma County? A landslide? Nope. A healthy margin? Nope. One percent. One fucking percent. And yet...lookee below: how is this story being touted by the centrist or right-center journalists? Oh, I know! See? Latinos voted for Tubby because Democrats had their heads up their ass! Nyah! Or, what a heartwarming, mavericky story that kicks the country in the nuts because it's not that a psychotic fuck edged into the oval office on a tiny margin because of an outdated fucking Electoral College, or that our democracy is in danger. No, no, the STORY is that somehow, the 2.5 million of us who are very angry, but very sane, are the closed-minded problem. Enlightenment, my ass. I mean, does the NYT or the Hill really expect an uptick in subscriptions or eyeballs or clicks by convincing the deplorables and the suckered that, see, we can sing the propaganda, too. Please like us. No, thank you. I'll stick with my sky is blue: 'mid america' in its own bubble truth in journalistic thought.

Eichenwald tweeted that the story today was the first one that didn't bring a barrage of Newsweek overseas hacking. The feed discusses whether this is a sign that the overseas hackers see their job is done and "they won," so no need to do anything, even to the most d*mning, factual evidence. Also, the response of those in their alt-reality? Calling this "fake news." It's the new rallying cry for "don't harsh my mellow with your stooopid facts and long, boring articles." Maddow had a story on this article last night - a sort of sneak peak on what was presented as irrefutable evidence of Tubby's unfitness. The same strategy was employed with Eichenwald's story on Tubby's ties to Cuba - Maddow led and the story broke the next day and I was thinking, "aha! At last! Proof." And.....nope. Crickets. Except Newsweek was attacked. I've subscribed to Newsweek, but I gotta say, I am royally pissed that this isn't getting more serious traction and attention. It seems that if Tubby don't tweetertantrum, it don't happen. I know Elizabeth Warren has called for an investigation into the conflicts of interest, but I don't hear CNN or the NYT or other MSM picking up this story and expanding or even refuting it, which is really disturbing. So, is Eichenwald considered "alt-left" and therefore discredited and ignored? He's fake news whereas the Faux News crew are now, in newspeak, "fair and balanced"? Jeebus, that happened fast. Way to have the guy's back, MSM. Hope you can all learn to write and speak Russian soon. Because, this is real, whether you want to believe it or not. This is not an episode of Stranger Things and we are not coming out of Upside Down. If you keep following Alice down the rabbit hole when you should know better, don't ask us to tune in as you relegate yourselves to serving the Red Queen and the Mad Hatter* for the rest of your miserable, hypocritical days. We'll be in Canada or Califexit or holed up in our bomb shelters. *with respect to the Mad Hatter, who I don't remember being a truly evil character, but maybe I just really hated the Tea Cup ride at Disney.

A few stories now surfacing with the narratives that liberals are again to blame for this election because, huh, apparently, there is a crisis of conservative suppression: goddamned colleges and their liberal miasmas (conservative students have a sadz that not everyone rejoiced in their candidate's marginal win on a platform of racism and misogyny and psychopathology). Pundits tell hysterical librulls to shut it and enjoy the air out of their bubbles. Apparently, the 2.5 million people who did not want Tubby in office and hate everything he stands for are simply suffering from closed-mindedness and become hysterical at the very thought of a conservative idea. I'm not afraid of ideas at all, thankyouverymuch. The best courses I took in college, the ones I worked the hardest in, were courses taught by professors who had diametrically opposed ideologies from my own. I am glad to have had those courses. They did shape my own arguments and helped me understand complex issues. By all means, bring on the ideas for combating climate change, addressing poverty, the huge cost of medical care, atrocities and warfare in other countries. Obama himself said that this country needs a solid conservative Republican party. But don't fucking tell me that's what the Tubby disaster represents and that I'm a stupid whining smelly librull who needs to shut up and open my mind because TRUMP IS KING and HE WON! That's not opening my mind, that's buying the propaganda. It's a far cry from having open and honest discussions about democracy in a college classroom and electing someone who doesn't give a crap about democracy unless it lines his own pockets. I have zero interest in leaving my echo chamber if what's outside is a world that claims the sky is green and the steaming pile of nuclear racist shit is really "refreshing" and actually quite progressive if I squint my eyes. Here's what my mind HAS been opened to, MSM: you need passionate, insightful and honest journalists who might have had the foresight to dig into stories that showed us where we were headed BEFORE the disaster of 2016. Where was all the talk of a divided country other than on the far left and far right? It wasn't there. How'd you miss that? Open your minds to that answer before you tell me that I need to respect every opinion equally or else there will be college republicans with their feelings hurt because they don't like being a minority and can't understand why they have to suffer feeling that way. We need to have the hard discussions, not screaming matches. I went to a panel discussion once with a professor from Ireland who said, "well, I come from a country where people were killing each other, so they needed to have the difficult discussions." If we're going to live together, we need an array of intelligent propositions, not Tweetertantrums or propaganda, to open our minds to.

Taking reply to media thread. But, first, I'll give you a grudging congratulations for getting me to click the link despite my hatred for Joe S. because I had a feeling that my guilty pleasure, right-center, elitist reporter might be on the panel. He was. And so I had to watch the whooooole thing. I swore to myself I was going to stop following him, but I can't quit him. Diet ruined. And that's as far out of my bubble/echo chamber I'm gonna go now.

Welcome to the goddamned party, McConnell. Too bad the only thing left to do is clean up the vomit on the floor and dump the congealed pizza, but here's a rag and a bottle of Lysol. Let's see some elbow grease, you vile piece of shit.

And planning to drain Molasses Swamp, of course. Perhaps if the intelligence briefings were put to a skit on SNL, he'd be able to focus. I mean, Tubby claims he doesn't even remember promising to retain 100% of Carrier's jobs until he saw his own stupid mug on the teevee saying the words. But yeah, those boring old papers and fuddyduddy gubmint workers. Who needs 'em? Poor Tubby the toddler can't be expected to read or discuss anything with any complexity. I guess, in newspeak, "smart" now means "dumb" and "dumb" is now "smart." Good to know. Doubleplusgood.- 8.1k replies

MSNBC: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (Vaulted)
potatoradio replied to Jaded's topic in Political Network Talk
From your post to every MSNBC bigwig's ears. MSNBC could really be a really key player in leaning forward again instead of wallowing in their identity crisis: 1. PM Joy 2. Buh-buy Spittle Boy and Bri-Wi 3. No more "Breaking news" about a single orange shithead tweet, rally, or anything else he does for attention. He's well past due for a timeout. 4. Fuck this "fair and balanced." No more Death Eater Conway, Corey whatshisface, or any other propaganda puppet. I'll check Faux News if I need to hear any of their bullshit. I highly doubt it will change and I've already heard enough. 5. You are allowed to go as far right as Nicole Wallace and Eugene Robinson. The saner shade of right wing. 6. Seal Meek-a and her d-bag cohost in a big old Starbucks tumbler and send them over to Fox. 7. Maddow is your fucking crown jewel. Treat her like it. That is my Christmas wish list for MSNBC. I'm sorry to say it's gotten much bigger since the days of "geez, that Jacob beat reporter is kinda hipster annoying..." Was there still a Santa in 1984? Or was it Comrade Nick?- 3.0k replies

Or if they just rejiggered the title to "CON man of the year," I'd be okey doke with that. With a big map of the red states and a "Grabbed by the P*ssy" headline. Subheadline: So....should we just lie back and enjoy it now? Because, you know, our country is supposed to have ways to shut that kind of thing down.... -
Also, Liz Spayd? You who thought perhaps a few of your journalists went too far anti-Tubby in their Tweets? Why don't you apply at Brietbart? That may be more your speed, dear. Has anyone actually read the Time article on Tubby? Or isn't it out yet? I'm just curious as to the tone. In the event that it's an actual, 'wow, he's bigly great!' ring kissing article, I won't chance the click (I want to keep my breakfast down), but if they are, indeed, painting it as an unfavorable or dubious influence? I might take a look. I almost wish I had a Twitter account, because I would have thrown a Tweetertantrum of my own when Chris Hayes delayed his show (or let the coverage from bootlicking spittle boy Matthews seep over into his show) to play the N.C. version of Two Minutes Hate with Tubby. However, a few other MSNBC watchdog Twitterers did it for me. And Hayes retweeted them. If he did that as a wee jab at his corporate masters, then, hey, I'm definitely 'all in' :

Is that why "All In" started with some good looking headlines and then....needlescratch....another damn rally? I was going to watch "All In," because I like Chris Hayes' tweets and he seems like a good interviewer and the show looked like it was going to cover interesting stuff. Annnd.....no thank you. Changed channel to watch Shark Tank. Stop it, MSNBC. If I want lies and newspeak, I'll read 1984 for the tenth time since the election. -

That's exactly how I read this - a fake, bullshit "meeting" to build up something for Ivanka the "hot piece of ass" figurehead. Sort of like when the Tubby campaign prodded Melania onstage with a trial balloon of online bullying of children as a potential (Not My) FLOTUS rallying point. The wimmin folk gots to be the ones pedaling the "soft side" of Tubby and give us all warm fuzzies. Never mind that both of those bots leave me stone cold unimpressed - Tubby's brain is nothing but a soft side. Meanwhile, welcome fracking to your backyard and we'll hold out for a "better deal" on the Paris treaty and we'll go to war for oil again (because this time, damn it, we're taking the oil home with us!) --- but, wait, environmentalists! Shop Ivanka's newest line of slave diamonds shaped like hearts! Love the Earth! Oh, look! Melania's giving a speech today from her spa - she says all the poor bullied children should buy her caviar lotion and they'll be all better! Please, please, Dems and RINOS and sane people everywhere who give a shit about this country and the world...wake the fuck up and DRAW THE GODDAMNED LINE. Never normal. Never acceptable. An abomination now and forever. And those of you who have the power to do anything need to fucking do it.- 8.1k replies

However much Wisconsin makes me sad these days, there are still plenty of good people: Penzey's spices CEO speaks out against Trump's racism And let's keep these Trumpgrets out there: Trump voter unhappy with treasury secretary pick. The Tubby voter I know voted for "change" and a belief that he "didn't mean everything he said during the campaign." Also, because Hillary. So, I wonder how bad things have to be before she'll decide to "change" again. She was an Obama voter, so I think she's someone who just gets this idea that "change is needed." Will she decide for change after 2 years or 4 or stick it out the whole 8 defending her choice? I volunteer with the Tubby supporter and it's definitely made things far less genuine and friendly between her and the rest of us on her crew (the rest of us hate Tubby). I was talking with another volunteer about what we were going to do and Tubby supporter came into the room and the two of us just shut right up. Just a tad awkward and divisive and high schoolish, but I can tell she doesn't want to talk about her vote. So, I won't push her directly...yet. Let her see how concerned her crew is about this "change" she wanted. Let her see us talking about resistance and education and plans and fear and anger. She wants to start a conversation with us, by all means....

Thanks for the info! I'm a little too optimistic with MN being "true blue" as well. We have a similar split between our blue metro area and red rural, with suburban swing areas and the Iron Range turning purple.
-
Yep. Times a million. Local is where change really originates and takes root. It's not as glam or dramatic as the national scale, but the results are very, very real. Minnesota and Illinois are the last true blue Midwestern states. It'll likely take me attending a few different meetings and groups to figure out where I'm of most use (I've taken a day off of work to meet with the staff of my House Congresswoman, have the local DFL meeting on my calendar, have been watching the online meetings of the city council), but damn if I'm going to sit back and let Minnesota get taken over by some other version of Snotty Walker or another Jesse Ventura. Our state house and senate flipped this last election and we had this uber-tool radio shock jock ride the wave of anti-librull into office. We're precariously close to fucking ourselves here, but I'm hoping this election woke up enough people here to rally and get a strategy together. I want to be part of that. Oh, and there's another name I've seen surface in Tubby's apologist pundits that I really never wanted to see again: Yes, our wienie extraordinaire ex-guv Tim Pawlenty has emerged from his financial advisory group to comment on some of Tubby's "policies." Oh boy, oh boy, cue the Empire music: it's the return of the milquetoast twerp.

Ahem. Pence. Dear. Tubby is refreshing, eh? He has this incredible connection, does he? Yes, I can smell the stench of that refreshment clear across the globe, thank you. Also, I'm pretty sure most serial killers will tell you they have connections with their victims - they know exactly how they like to kill and how they like to bury. It's incredible, really. Honestly, Tubby needs an entire army of shit scrubbers to follow behind him, shovels and lies and deviations and "but Hillary" and "but Obama" excuses on their backs. It's pathetic. They are never going to convince the majority of voters that the sky is green. The only refreshing thing about Tubby's administration is that it will end and I'm motivated to do everything I can to resist and throw his arse out on his ear in four years. Assuming, again, we don't get nuked in the name of building a Trump hotel first. I'm bitterly disappointed now, more than angry, that so many people were fooled and are convinced that the sky is green. I really thought more people valued their ability to think for themselves and that they'd take as much pride in seeing Tubby for what he is as they did for (supposedly) seeing HRC as the devil, but...nope. That's just embarrassing, really.- 8.1k replies

This ^. So much. I thought the WU humor has gotten far edgier and biting than it has been and I think that's a good thing. No kid gloves. I like political humor that needles and questions and gets a little uncomfortable. We need that now. It's just sad how much more likable and human KM's portrayal of Dementor Conway is than the actual person. The actual person is beyond reprehensible to me and I can't even watch her without throwing up in my mouth. Loved the candle and the Hunt for Hill and the high school drama sketches. Those had me spitting out my drink. That's a good night. -

Yep. Also, the Dems need to get aggressive about the fact that racism and economics are completely intertwined. The "working class" ain't just white people. Also, working class doesn't necessarily mean a factory job. It now means jobs in the service industry or the food industry or healthcare. So, just shut it, white whiners. Your precious lily white "working class" is already diverse and the solution to economic woes is not to try to make it white again. It's to fight for workers' rights and living wages and decent union representation. I refused to watch any of the Tubby Two Minutes Hate Speech. I saw a link in the media thread, though, that was a bit reassuring. That rally was NOT well attended. The arena wasn't even close to capacity. So, no, Tubby, you don't have throngs and throngs of people bowing down to your greatness. You have a seriously pissed off majority who will hold every Dem accountable for fighting you and who will hold MSM responsible for reporting the truth about your con job, even when he eventually tries to cut you out of the picture and resorts to nothing but Panem-style YouTubes for "coverage." Save your pretty hate machine propaganda for those few people who still dry-hump to the sound of your voice. The rest of us are too busy saving our country.- 8.1k replies

Thanks, @SonofaBiscuit! That's good to see, and what I hope drives more of the MSM narrative. Tubby's getting too much credit for rallying a mass of people when the body counts and facts don't bear that out in this case. It confirms that he in no way has the will of the people behind him and isn't unifying anyone (not that I expected that). Only way he's going to unify us is when he destroys the planet when he fucks up for good and hits the nuclear codes. Death is a yuge, bigly good unifier. Kinda trumps everything.

Oh, heck, if I can call dibs on sharing a cell with Rachel Maddow or joy ried, I will burn a flag on the white house lawn and sing every one of Keith Olbermann's Tweets as it burns. Also, could I have the cell that's close to Ezra Klein's and Chris Hayes'? As the centrists like Jeremy Peters get tossed in, I'll save them a spot at the lunch table, too, and finally, FINALLY get to sit with the cool kids. Will Suze Orman be our prison guard? Pretty please? I don't know that there will be time for all of that, though. I mean, from reading what's been posted about Tubby slipping in his own shit as he talked to the Pakistani Prime Minister, what the hell? Let's skip all the foreplay of gutting government programs and civil rights and culture wars and just get right to the showstopper of nuclear war. -
Russia calling left-leaning journalists: Journalists report hacking warning on Gmail OK, I don't know for a fact that it's Russia. Just that, hmmmm, curious....a bunch of liberal media figures (Ezra Klein, Rachel Maddow, and now Keith Olbermann) report seeing a hacking warning on their email. Now, lemme think....who'd want to try to wreck our country by hacking into emails for "dirt" to use to create chaos and fake news and try to establish a "reason" for abolishing the First Amendment and a state run media? Could it be... *SNL Church Lady voice* PUTIN?! Nah....that's nuts. That's tin foil hat stuff. Just because Keith Olbermann says that it was just as real as the time he got a threat of mailed anthrax and he had to be in a hazmat suit for hours while the FBI searched his building. Yeah, he's a just a librull hack and stooopid and he LOST, so he should just shut up already. But I'd sure love for the MSM to make a much bigger stink about this. Because I really fucking hate borscht. And human rights violations. And fascism.
