formerlyfreedom January 29, 2019 Share January 29, 2019 A Fox pilot for 2019 -- from Deadline; Fox has given a pilot order to one-hour police drama Prodigal Son, from Deception creator Chris Fedak and Sam Sklaver, Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros TV. Written by Fedak and Sklaver, Prodigal Son is described as a fresh take on a crime franchise with a provocative and outrageous lead character and darkly comedic tone. It centers on Malcolm Bright, who has a gift. He knows how killers think, how their minds work. Why? His father was one of the worst — a notorious serial killer called “The Surgeon.” That’s why Bright is the best criminal psychologist around; murder is the family business. He will use his twisted genius to help the NYPD solve crimes and stop killers, all while dealing with a manipulative mother, annoyingly normal sister, a homicidal father still looking to bond with his prodigal son, and his own constantly evolving neuroses. formerlyfreedom March 10, 2019 Author Share March 10, 2019 Lots of casting news dropped this week... Michael Sheen To Star In Fox Drama Pilot ‘Prodigal Son’ Bellamy Young To Co-Star In Fox Drama Pilot ‘Prodigal Son’ ‘Iron Fist’s Finn Jones To Headline Fox Drama Pilot ‘Prodigal Son’ Keiko Agena Joins ‘Prodigal Son’ Quote Former Masters of Sex star Michael Sheen is taking a dark turn with a lead role in Prodigal Son, Fox’s police drama pilot from Deception creator Chris Fedak and Sam Sklaver, Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros TV... Sheen’s Martin Whitly is intelligent, wealthy, charismatic — he also happens to be a predatory sociopath who murdered more than 20 people. Martin once was a devoted family man and successful cardiothoracic surgeon with high-profile patients. Quote Young will play Bright’s mother, Jessica Whitly, an elegant WASPy New Yorker who wields sarcasm like a samurai sword. As the wife of a serial killer, she is a disgraced member of high society, but she refuses to hide from her truth, and she wishes her son would follow suit. Quote ...Prodigal Son is described as a fresh take on a crime franchise with a provocative and outrageous lead character and darkly comedic tone. It centers on Malcolm Bright (Jones), who has a gift. He knows how killers think, how their minds work. Why? His father Martin Whitly (Sheen) was one of the worst — a notorious serial killer called “The Surgeon.” That’s why Bright is the best criminal psychologist around; murder is the family business. He will use his twisted genius and razor-sharp instincts as a forensic profiler to help the NYPD solve crimes and stop killers, all while dealing with a manipulative mother (Young), annoyingly normal sister, a homicidal father still looking to bond with his prodigal son and his own constantly evolving neuroses. Intelligent but deeply damaged, Malcolm has a self-deprecating sense of humor and a surprising level of compassion. Quote Agena will play Edrisa, the slightly off-center coroner working with the NYPD detective team. She is thrilled by her work, and she is both smitten and fascinated with Bright. Link to comment
formerlyfreedom March 13, 2019 Author Share March 13, 2019 Well that was fast... ‘Prodigal Son’: Tom Payne To Headline Fox Pilot In Recasting Quote Fox’s drama pilot Prodigal Son is recasting its lead. The Walking Dead alum Tom Payne has been tapped to topline the pilot from Chris Fedak, Sam Sklaver, Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros TV. He will replace Finn Jones, who originally was cast in the role. The decision was made after the pilot’s table read this week. Recastings are an unfortunate but inevitable byproduct of pilot season, when casting directors, networks and studios race against the clock and compete against one another to assemble casts for 70-80 pilots. The casting on the Prodigal Son lead came down to the wire, with Jones’ deal closing on the eve of the pilot’s table read. Link to comment
formerlyfreedom May 9, 2019 Author Share May 9, 2019 Picked up by Fox. Quote Fox just made its first new series pickups, ordering four of its six drama pilots to series. That includes cop/serial killer drama Prodigal Son, starring Tom Payne and Michael Sheen; John Slattery’s AI drama neXt; police drama Deputy, headlined by Stephen Dorff; and the Annie Weisman/Jason Katims sister drama; based on an Australian format. The pickup of Prodigal Son makes it 3-for-3 for Berlanti Prods., with all three of the company’s broadcast pilots this season going to series, including the CW’s Batwoman and Katy Keene. Prodigal Son passed one of the biggest tests for a pilot – recasting its lead, with Payne replacing originally cast Finn Jones after the pilot read. Payne and Sheen, who plays his father, proved a formidable duo, drawing praise for their acting — especially Sheen who has a showcase role as a notorious serial killer. Link to comment

hookedontv September 13, 2019 Share September 13, 2019 I am really excited for this show to start in a couple weeks. It seems right up my alley and I hope it's as clever and interesting as it seems. Time will tell! PS: Why is "Prodigal Son" in the Genre category? Seems like a Drama-some good old police/detective/murder cases with a bit of a twist. Profiling and all that, not too far from Criminal Minds or other police dramas. Maybe it will make sense once the show is on, but I definitely wasn't looking for it in the Genre category here on Primetimer. 2 Link to comment
Yokosmom September 13, 2019 Share September 13, 2019 (edited) It looks intriguing but I'm not sure how far they can carry the premise. I loves me some Michael Sheen, but he seems to be wildly overacting in the previews. From the brief glimpse in the trailer, I like the lead (the son). Lou Diamond Philips is always a plus. And yeah, why is it in the Genre category? Edited September 13, 2019 by Yokosmom 1 Link to comment
