Mudbound (2017)

Release date is Nov. 17, 2017 in theaters and simultaneously on Netflix. 94% on Rotten Tomatoes thus far and lots of buzz for Mary J. Blige's supporting role. Based on the book by Hillary Jordan.

I thought it was good, but to be a great movie this either needed to be longer (it often seems to be aiming for epic status) or shorter.  The shorter version would basically excise Carey Mulligan's character, who ends up having little reason to be in the movie in its present form.  The ending montage also throws in a few bits (like the Jacksons suddenly have a much nicer farm; how?) that feel totally out of nowhere in the current version.
