ElectricBoogaloo May 30, 2016 Share May 30, 2016 Quote The 40-day Cologne Carnival celebration sets the tone for Bourdain’s visit to this city that boasts many delicacies (kolsch, mett, blood sausage with himmel und erde, schnitzel), and maintains a peaceful atmosphere and sense of tolerance, despite the recent New Year’s Eve assaults linked to incoming refugees, which the host discusses with the locals. ElectricBoogaloo June 7, 2016 Author Share June 7, 2016 Ha, Mr. EB and I were just talking about deviled eggs the other day! People get so excited when they see them at parties and it always cracks me up because they're so easy to make but apparently most people are too lazy to make them. Link to comment
Snarklepuss June 7, 2016 Share June 7, 2016 I loved the make your own deviled eggs! I wonder if Tony has gotten Anderson to like food a little more. Looks like he's being pretty adventurous here for guy who's on record as not being into food at all. Link to comment
biakbiak June 7, 2016 Share June 7, 2016 A few months ago he was on The Chew and he had never had a frittata, also menticed that the one time his oven was used in his glorious house was for a cooking segment with Bourdain . I try not to judge people harshly (fail time and time again) but Anderson was a child of extreme priveldge growing up in Manhattan who has been literally everywhere his not trying foods creeps me out! 2 Link to comment

I've liked Anderson since he hosted "The Mole", but this aspect of his personality does bug me. There is a A LOT of stuff he does not eat or try. He's extremely picky about food to the point where I don't think I'd ever want to be friends with him in real life. He's the opposite of Tony in that way. Link to comment
ElectricBoogaloo June 8, 2016 Author Share June 8, 2016 (edited) It makes me sad for Anderson Cooper that he's spent most of his life missing out on all the delicious food that exists in the world. When he said he would have shakes for every meal if he could, I could only pity him. Eating is necessary that you do 2-3 times every single day, so it's something you should enjoy, not something you merely tolerate for the nutritional aspect of staying alive. I think the same thing when I see people who are so focused on working out and their protein intake that they rarely enjoy their meals because they're living on protein shakes, supplements, and egg whites. There are millions of things to eat that are delicious but some people deliberately choose not to eat any of them. Why do that to yourself? It truly baffles me. But I do agree that Anderson seems to be more open to trying different foods now than he was before, so I'll give him that. If you don't like the way something tastes, that's one thing. But if you won't even try something to see if you like it or not, that's another. At least take a bite and confirm that you hate it! Edited June 8, 2016 by ElectricBoogaloo 1 Link to comment

It makes me think of that Brillat-Savarin quote at the beginning of the original "Iron Chef" - "Tell me what you eat and I will tell you what you are". Although I have heard that some people are born with strange tastes and it's a genetic thing. So it may not be a psychological thing but a physical anomaly. 2 Link to comment

Yes and like @biakbiak said, I also try not to be judgmental. I am reminded that I have known a couple of people who do not really care about food in the sense that they see it anymore as sustenance. They do not enjoy it or its place in people's lives or culture or history. It's not an interest to them. It is hard because I think those of us who like food and enjoy Bourdain's shows see this extreme pickiness as a type of close-mindedness. As you say though, it may be a genetic thing as well and perhaps an issue growing up that people never get over or grow out of. I think what got me particularly was a segment Cooper had on his daytime talk show. His co-workers tried to introduce him to more foods but he was not having it. He basically made fun of a lot of food and seemed perplexed about why people would eat it. I know he was teasing his co-workers, but it also came off as insulting to people who did like the food. I really try to give picky eaters the benefit of the doubt in general though. Cooper does seem to have advanced somewhat since then. 1 Link to comment
