SnarkySheep April 8, 2014 Share April 8, 2014 Here's yet another character we know next to nothing about, other than his techie smarts and his loyalty to Voight... ...Or, perhaps it's more about Jin's loyalty to fighting crime and exposing truth, as he was also quite willing to put himself on the line to help Halstead... SnarkySheep April 21, 2014 Author Share April 21, 2014 Playing devil's advocate here...do you think that Jin is just a straightforward guy, doing a job? Or, like almost everyone else at the precinct, does he has a hidden agenda, possibly a hidden past? Link to comment
SnarkySheep May 16, 2014 Author Share May 16, 2014 So, we're finding out in bits and pieces now that TPTB are somehow threatening Jin's family if he doesn't act according to the way they want. What do you speculate the situation is here? Link to comment
Rionadh May 16, 2014 Share May 16, 2014 I reckon Stillwell knows about something that Jin's dad did, something illegal, hence him mentioning the FBI. I'm not sure exactly how he'd know or what it could be though. I did feel a bit sorry for Jin as he really seemed to be under pressure but I can't help but think that he should just have come to Voight when Internal Affairs/Stillwell first came to him and then maybe he could have got help. Must have been a difficult situation though. Link to comment
SnarkySheep May 19, 2014 Author Share May 19, 2014 My personal .02 was that perhaps Stillwell just wanted to use Jin, who's got all kinds of techie access AND access to Voight, to get more dirt. To make that possible, he was threatening Jin's father (probably much in the same way that Erin threatened Catalano with planting a kilo in his car). I'm sure that Jin's seen enough in his police life to know that his father could very easily be made to have a "car accident" or be found with damning evidence for some crime, etc. regardless of his innocence and so he's doing everything he can to keep that from happening. Your explanation makes sense, though, too. Link to comment
SnarkySheep May 22, 2014 Author Share May 22, 2014 Was it just me, or was anyone else a bit disappointed that the whole thing with Stillwell turned out to be over gambling debts?? SERIOUSLY?? I mean, I get family loyalty and all, and certainly loyalty is a huge theme overall in this show. But IMO Jin chose the wrong hill to die on. Initially when this whole story came up I thought that perhaps Jin (and his family) were being blackmailed as innocent pawns in Stillwell's quest to beat Voight. Then, I thought perhaps there was something, but certainly something a little different than that. How much could Jin's father possibly have owed, millions? Under the circumstances I would think Jin and his family might have gotten a loan, or multiple loans, at any interest rate or at any other cost, just simply to pay off those threatening and holding them emotionally hostage, and then take it from there. Really, how did Jin think this would work out for him, that he could beat Internal Affairs? Link to comment

But Voight and the rest of the Intelligence Squad were always asking Jin for off the books favours. Did he not understand how favours work? Why not call in one of those favours and have Voight, or Alvin or someone make the gambling debts (or the people who want to collect them) go away? Link to comment
SnarkySheep June 6, 2014 Author Share June 6, 2014 The way I understood it, no, it wasn't any specific kind of gambling debt, just gambling debt as a whole, until the place was shut down and Jin's dad was pinned in the corner to pay up. But yeah, I see your point about favors...certainly Jin had done enough for THEM over time. As far as we know, he never even tried asking! Link to comment
