Occasional Hope December 6, 2014 Share December 6, 2014 I liked Caroline and Jake the best this week (Jake for entertainment value), but they were all pretty good. I predict Mark versus a Shock!Girl (most likely Frankie) in the danceoff, with the latter being a formality. I think Jake's saved himself this week by his character-full Charleston, although he's possibly the weakest technical dancer left. I want the three women in the final, but I don't know if that can happen. Link to comment
Dots And Stripes December 6, 2014 Share December 6, 2014 I like Jake. I still think Jannette holds him back, particularly in ballroom. She just doesn't have the expertise to elevate him as a dancer. Jannette's tricks are amazing and well suited for the Charleston. I also think Mark could be better with another partner. Trent creeps me out a little, especially in that cha cha. He oversell's his facial expressions. Pixie has been selling her dancers Frankie. I prefer Frankie's natural grace and I hope she's able to get out of her head in the last few weeks. It's a little frustrating that Frankie has so much ability but always seems to get in her own way. She's just such a lovely dancer. Salsa wasn't her best though. Link to comment
Occasional Hope December 7, 2014 Author Share December 7, 2014 Wow, I never expected that. I definitely thought the judges would save Pixie over Simon. I can only think they want him as the token male in the final (and he is the best of the guys). She was a very gracious loser; I gained a lot of respect for her tonight. I did actually prefer Simon's dance to hers this week myself, but that's just because I prefer that kind of dance. (Although I thought he was too smily all the way through for the song they were using.) Link to comment
Dots And Stripes December 7, 2014 Share December 7, 2014 If the finals has four couples again this year, then we're guaranteed a male finalist anyway. I would bet Jake will finish ahead of Simon. Then again, I would have bet Pixie would have survived a dance off against anyone. I think her dancing warranted a place in the finals even if I personally would rather watch Simon some more. The shock value of tonight's result makes me happy too. I'm also starting to appreciate Kristina more. She comes off as needy, however, her dancing is gorgeous. Considering I don't care much for Karen, Trent, or Janette as dancers (to say nothing of their personalities), I'm now happier to see Kristina as part of the cast. I think Trent made a strategic error with lifts, especially since he and Pixie were due for Salsa if they stayed. I tend to think the risk to reward ratio never pays off for what I call the lift-adjacent moves (i.e. where the man supports the woman's weight and she has to keep 1 foot on the floor to prevent the move from becoming a lift). Len said he wasn't punishing them this week, however I do have to wonder if the whole exchange with Len cost them. I know the result has already spawned conspiracy theories. Unfortunately the nature of the dance off allows for the better overall dancer losing when they have a style that doesn't suit their skills. Link to comment
Occasional Hope December 8, 2014 Author Share December 8, 2014 Fodder for the conspiracy theorists: there's an interview with Darcey in the Christmas Radio Times saying (a) she'd like Jake to win and (b) she prefers watching male dancers full stop. Link to comment
Dots And Stripes December 9, 2014 Share December 9, 2014 Fodder for the conspiracy theorists: there's an interview with Darcey in the Christmas Radio Times saying (a) she'd like Jake to win and (b) she prefers watching male dancers full stop. Probably not smart for a judge to say. I don't think it should matter all that much this week, in part because of the waltz-a-thon. Women seemed to do a lot better since they had a strong male lead to keep them from colliding. It also sounded to me like this week's result came down to judging this one performances vs. judging the body of work. I can absolutely see why it's a tough loss for people who enjoyed Pixie. I just don't see a real conspiracy. Link to comment
Guest December 11, 2014 Share December 11, 2014 I had to laugh out loud at all the contestants pretending to be sad that their main competition is gone :D Not too sad to see her gone myself. It seemed like too much of a foregone conclusion that she would win. Link to comment
