Athena November 19, 2014 Share November 19, 2014 Bourdain heads to Jamaica, a destination well known for delicious Caribbean delicacies and feel-good vibes. The host travels along the Northeast region of the island and explores life in Port Antonio and Winnifred Beach. He also delves into the importance of music legend Bob Marley, with his producer Chris Blackwell, and takes a side trip to the home of author Ian Fleming (the setting of James Bond novels). A main topic in this episode is the ever-burgeoning tourist industry and how it continues to affect the local population. Link to comment
ElectricBoogaloo November 20, 2014 Share November 20, 2014 My main takeaway from this episode was that Errol Flynn's grandson is mighty fine. I kid, I kid, there was more! While I understand not wanting to turn down some really sweet accomodations, it seemed a bit much for Bourdain to be the rich guy's guest and then to ask the locals on the beach who would want to take all that away from the Jamaicans in the name of tourism. You know exactly who would want to do that because you just had dinner with him last night, dude. Don't try to pretend it's some nameless faceless corporation doing this. It's the guy who let you stay at his extremely expensive high end resort. Link to comment
peaceknit November 20, 2014 Share November 20, 2014 (edited) Not sure how many people know this, but that very drunk and annoying "fisherman" at the drinking table was longtime Jamaican actor, Carl Bradshaw. He pretty much works for Chris (Whiteworst) Blackwell. The way he was bullying and talking over the other men made me want to throw a shoe at the teevee! That said, it will be a travesty when Porty is ruined by the resorts :( I hope the locals are vocal but money talks, unfortunately, and the men on top are just as corrupt as they are anywhere else.
