Actionmage November 15, 2014 Share November 15, 2014 Here's where we can talk about our favorite golden-eyed angel, played by the wonderful Harold Perrineau. I have enjoyed Manny's cageyness and out-of-nowhere appearances. I do hope that we have a John/Manny episode that focuses on how they ended up knowing each other. Not everything, just glimpses as to how they met and started working together. And if Manny ever appeared to Chas. So glad Mr. Perrineau is on my TV weekly! Link to comment
Bruinsfan November 22, 2014 Share November 22, 2014 Mr. Perrineau doesn't actually get to do much, but they certainly picked the right actor to be able to get across an unearthly yet compassionate feel for the character through a few lines of dialog. 1 Link to comment
Actionmage January 17, 2015 Author Share January 17, 2015 I'll just agree fully with Bruinsfan; I was coming to essentially post the same about tonight's episode. Manny at the end was silent but I grinned and felt a little more at ease. I felt the twin pulls Manny has to be under when he talked to John in the sewer. It's genre, so no one will bother giving him props for a role that is minimalist, yet rich and complex. Except us. Link to comment
venturestar January 17, 2015 Share January 17, 2015 I did think Manny's response to John after John gets himself possessed is interesting. John says God wouldn't have helped and Manny responds, "You didn't even ask!" and something about how he could help John but he won't. That seems different from Manny's normal line that he can't interfere with mortal's free will. I wonder if he's had a change of mindset after killing the fallen angel. We haven't seen what the fallout from that was. If it wasn't severe, maybe Manny's realized he can stretch the rules a bit and the consequences aren't so bad. 1 Link to comment
Actionmage February 11, 2015 Author Share February 11, 2015 I have been enjoying Manny and Mr. Perrineau's performance. Manny has been a highlight- enjoyed when seen, missed when absent. Plus, there is a lot to be explored with Manny. I loved the look into Manny we got last week! It was fun and sweet and how he's opened himself to Zed was lovely. I hope a renewal can be had, as this is great role for Mr. Perrineau, and I think the writing is getting to where Manny is getting meaty now. What it means to be an angel, what you have to live with and without. The smile Manny had as he and Zed were mutually admiring each other seemed like it was a nice, new sensation. Having someone relieved and happy to see you. I will be looking forward to the next episode, still. I hope Manny gets to do something fun/cool, like kick Evil ass. 1 Link to comment

Actionmage February 14, 2015 Author Share February 14, 2015 In this episode, we saw mages use magic to reanimate corpses; John did that and made it appear as himself to Papa Midnight, a mage who should have been able to pick-up on that. (The eagerness to get rid of a" poser" and free his sister, understandably, distracted him.) This show likes to zig-zag from straight-forward facts to almost using an unreliable narrator. Straight: It was Manny who talked and freed Papa, he is bigger and badder than The Brujeria, and he's pulled the wool over John Constantine's eyes. Unreliable: It was a Manny-suit/-bodied being that spoke to Papa in that form, to keep Papa and Constantine at loggerheads so he can do something else, while they are toddlers focused on each other and not hir. (One possibility: the lady Fallen we met a few episodes back.) Both options are tantalizing. I hope we can see what the show reality is! Link to comment
