KWalkerInc March 1 Share March 1 Quote Both Beverly and Crenshaw are on a hot streak in their respective games; Amina struggles with her decision to run for Stu-Co president when she discovers her campaign speech falls on a very difficult day; Coop attends a law panel. "Stu-Co"? Ugh. Even if the characters are going to say that (I think Layla did back in the day), it doesn't mean they need to write it that way in the blurbs! Lonesome Rhodes March 4 Share March 4 (edited) Coop, the lawyer, did a B&E into a public high school. She heard a pretty good speech, though. Marqui is a real deal menace. I remain surprised they are introducing such a genuine threat in the middle of a romantic triangle. Kahlil has almost no shot at the straight and narrow. But on a TV show... Tori making such a brazen move on KJ was a bit too much. It's within the realm, but she wasn't even gonna be there, and she figured out the storage room deal at Crenshaw? She's still my favorite character, though. Will Preach volunteer to blow Marqui's alibi apart? Cassius' near 180 in attitude with KJ is also not ringing true. Neither does both football teams' winning bigly on the field. Surely, the BHS principal is not a happy camper, right? Man, we have to swallow a lot of nonsense and retconning. At least the grown woman made her decision (all in with Khalil). Until she doesn't. Maybe she could have an affair with a teacher, too? Did she glad hand or talk up any voter in the time before she was to become a pumpkin? There was to be no speech, and the popular rapper made his appearance, wowing the electorate. Genius campaigner, she is. Edited March 4 by Lonesome Rhodes 1 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/152157-s07e05-i-got-a-story-to-tell/#findComment-8597422
KWalkerInc March 4 Author Share March 4 I got a good laugh right at the beginning when they did their brief reference to football for the week. The voiceover saying something about how great it would be if South Crenshaw and Beverly somehow played each other, as if that isn't pretty much guaranteed to happen. (I suppose it would be a big letdown though if they were like, "Nah, let's not have them play each other after all.") They showed Khalil's locker/name plate again. Maybe it's foreshadowing that he'll drop his last name to protest his father's continued violent behavior and just go by one name, like Cher decided to do officially after her second divorce. I hope Coop didn't really break into the school. I think either Preach let her in (sounded like he had the keys for when Amina was going to leave) or it was just open because of Marqui's efforts. I am just cringing over the storyline with the professor. I thought maybe it would turn out to just be a one-sided crush/hero worship thing, but no, the professor is being quite inappropriate. Coop can probably see that without Preach's warning, but perhaps just doesn't care. Also, they shouldn't keep mentioning ages, as it just tempts me to look up to see how close in age the two actresses actually are. (When I Googled once recently to try to see who the regulars are, it instead listed all the past regulars with their ages without prompting, and Grace is only like 9 years older than Bre-Z.) It's great if Amina can try to carry on the positive part of her mom's legacy, and understandable that she just sees her as "complicated" because accepting just how bad she got would be crushing when she already has a huge hole from her loss and absence. I did not like the part though about how Mo didn't get the chance to restore her repuation. (Cue Coop and Preach looking guilt-ridden.) Any damage to her reputation was her own fault because of being out for blood against Coop. Even when Coop tried to point out all the good Mo had done and could continue to do, Mo still shot her anyway. Amina can do positive things and cite her mother's example in many ways, but I don't think anything can fully redeem her. It's interesting that her mother's birthday is apparently the only day that depresses Amina so heavily. At first I was afraid they were going to claim this was the anniversary of Mo's death and I would have had to yell, "NO! That happened during the state championship game!" The fake boyfriend scheme with KJ seems like it would be more plausible if they were in middle school. It happened on Beverly Hills, 90210 though when they were out of college, after I gave up and only saw those episodes later in syndication. As stupid as it is, at least Amina has a goal (making Khalil jealous) that makes sense. KJ apparently just thinks that spending time with Amina will change her mind and make her like him instead. Tori will probably be the one that gets hurt from this (even though she's already been rejected), unless they decide to pair her with Khalil all of a sudden. So Cassius just let KJ have sex with Courtney (Oakland girlfriend) in the house and say nothing? At least Spencer had the courtesy to wait until the house was empty to sleep with Layla or Kaya (I think that's the name of his ex from South Crenshaw?) or Olivia. Marqui is definitely the scariest character they've had on the show. Tyrone was pretty bad, but I didn't have the fear that he might just shoot up the school or the stands at one of the football games. Marqui doesn't seem to realize that a lot of people probably saw him at the school (and leaving) earlier than 8. Preach of course wouldn't even testify about Tyrone shooting him (the supposed reason for him getting out because "what taped murder confession?"), but that was before he knew he had a daughter, so he might be willing to talk to the cops for the sake of Amina and friends. When Cassius asked if KJ wanted to go to the event to see Jordan, I already knew that wasn't going to happen because I happened to be looking when they listed the cast and it said "Starring Bre-Z" and then a bunch of other names I still don't fully recognize, not Michael or Greta. For some reason, I thought that Jordan and Layla's excursion to Northern California would be on camera and didn't realize it was how they'd write them out this week. Thinking that may have been even dumber than Amina and KJ's scheme! 1 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/152157-s07e05-i-got-a-story-to-tell/#findComment-8597505
