The Residence is a Drama TV Series with all 8 episodes streaming on March 20, 2025 on Netflix. The Residence used the nonfiction book "The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House" by Kate Andersen Brower as a reference to get an accurate representation of the White House staff in the 132 room residence and an accurate depiction of the upstairs/downstairs/back passages dynamics surrounding the First Family.

This video on the ensemble cast showed up on my Youtube home page, and I watched several of the Behind the Residence videos on the Shondaland page. The cast clearly had a great time together.

No idea if a second season is on the table, yet I'm ambivalent.  I assume it wouldn't be another White House mystery. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed Cordelia Cupp. Still, a lot of the spark for me was how she interacted with other characters.  The saying "lightning doesn't hit the same place twice" is technically wrong, but I don't know if you could get the same magic with a different cast.

I'm sure that would be a concern, but other shows/movies have made it work.  I think the 2nd Knives Out worked just as well as the first.

I could see them doing another, but keeping it in DC, so we still have the DC police chief.  My earlier idea was a murder in the Capitol Building.  That could allow for the return of Franken and the other Senator.  Possibly the President.  I'm sure they could figure out a reason for Sheila to be over there.  (Please, bring back Sheila!)  You wouldn't want too much overlap, but just a sprinkling.

To me, the thing that made this show stand out from other mysteries was the use of the Senate hearing as the story telling vehicle.  If they were to replicate that, they'd have to acknowledge it head on - a "oh, here we go again" type of thing.  Maybe reverse the roles of Franken & the CO Senator.

I do hope it gets a second season.

It is true there are often cast changes around the central detective in the genre. For me, the second Knives Out film wasn't as good partially because the cast was different (also, weaker storytelling). Different strokes.

Sometimes the cast changes work for me, other times not so much. It'll be interesting to see if/how they decide to move forward.
