SomeTameGazelle September 5 Share September 5 (edited) The fact that Eurydice had decided to leave Orpheus makes me dread how their story is going to end more than the standard version. Knowing she wasn't happy makes his love seem creepy rather than romantic. Maybe they will come back to it later but I feel like I wish we had more background on Orpheus' fame and Riddy's unhappiness. In all the myths I can think of babies who are supposed to be killed are miraculously saved (Zeus in particular gestating Athene in his head or Dionysus in his thigh; lots of others like Oedipus or Perseus who were left for dead as infants because of prophecies but were saved and grew to adulthood) so I was surprised that Zeus apparently obeyed Hera and killed it in this case. Maybe he furtively did something we couldn't see and the baby will turn out later to have survived after all. Edited September 5 by SomeTameGazelle Zeus baby 1 Link to comment
wenhiku September 5 Share September 5 Thanks for sharing some background on the mythology. I guess I have a very shallow memory of all the stories. I keep going back and forth on Riddy and Orpheus' relationship. The coin action surprised me, and I did not initially think about it being love on his part to not give it to her. I am trying to figure out if there is a person that Riddy is trying to get back for (herself??), or what the very strong motivation there is. Orpheus' love for her does seem like it could be smothering. Link to comment
maddie965 September 9 Share September 9 I don't doubt that Orpheus loves Eurydice, but his obsession for her is very unhealthy. The lyrics of that song are creepy as hell. Hope his trip to find her in the underworld will teach him something. We don't know yet who the third human is, right? 2 Link to comment
