I decided to watch episode 2 of Dancing With the Stars tonight instead of MCAU live (it features both Hayden Quinn and Julie Goodwin as contestants, by the way) so I'm about to watch tonight's ep on catch-up.  Back soon!

Well, I'm not sure the recapper was a fan of tonight's episode but I didn't mind it.  It's always quite fun if the contestants really get into it and these three did, although I think Darssh gets the prize for throwing the best shade at the judges!

Jean-Christophe actually comes across as very eccentric a lot of the time but I love him for it.  He's entertaining if nothing else.  Poh has long been a master of seeming to be very disorganised whilst actually cooking really well.  And Andy really has come a long way since his days as a contestant.  I don't know how they ended up with any kind of decent dish in the relay challenge except to say that their experienced counted for a lot.  I think Poh could have told Jean-Cristophe absolutely nothing about what was left on the bench for him to finish off and he still would have been able to produce a good dish out of it.

As for what's going to happen tomorrow night, the judges do love a finale where they have a male and a female contestant so my prediction would be that Nat and Pezza end up final two but who knows.

The other twist in the tail is that all the eliminated contestants are on the balcony watching, although this is less a “twist” than an “annoyance”. It may not be a real challenge, but at least the judges will feel the aggravation of a bunch of screaming idiots yelling useless advice at you while you’re trying to concentrate.

Jean-Christophe is struggling with his mixer, as he can’t figure out how to plug it in. It’s a cruel moment, as we all know that France doesn’t have electricity. “I’m worried for him,” says Sav. “I don’t know if he’s going to have a dish at the end of this .” It’s a major concern, although what he definitely will have at the end of this is four Michelin stars and a highly paid job on television, which might console him.

With 30 minutes to go, the balconyites observe that Andy is extremely calm in his work. What’s his secret? Mainly it’s that he doesn’t have Andy coming round to his bench to tell him his dish sucks every five minutes.

The relay begins. “This is going to be a really interesting one,” Sofia lies. Her fellow judges agree, just desperate to be on TV for a bit longer. Sav has pulled out a massive slab of beef. From the pantry, to be clear. “I think we’ve all got a point to prove,” she says, incorrectly: nothing today has any point at all. Andy has grabbed an enormous fish. “I’m gonna go French,” he says, tongue-kissing it passionately.

Poh does not explain to Jean-Christophe what’s happening, because she doesn’t know. Poh admits that she was quite flustered and that, given Jean-Christophe asked her to speak slowly because he has trouble understanding an Australian accent, and given that she was hyperventilating at the time, and given that she blacked out and has no memory of the last six hours of her life, there might be an issue. However, the one thing that Jean-Christophe has on his side is that he is much much better at cooking than anyone else in this building.

I didn’t watch the latest episode. It’s just a boring, pointless filler with the judges spending “fun time” with their 3x favorites. UGH. 🙄

The more talented, all-rounded cooks are actually on the gantry cheering for the one-trick-pony, mediocre semi finalists. How sad is that? 😏

Am not looking forward to tomorrow’s Semi Final either. It should’ve been the more nurturing Shannon Bennett running the kitchen for the service challenge, not that COLES SHILL. 😒

I think this is on par with the Larissa season for me. I did not enjoy her or her win at all.

Emma Dean and Justin were a bit of a “WTF” in terms of their wins but I didn’t find them unpleasant as people.

The three finalists here are all varying degrees of unpleasant.

Best thing about this season has once again been this forum!!!  Have enjoyed all your comments and updates immensely 👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️

I reckon as soon as she saw the second place in the finale was between her and Nat, Sav realised she was screwed.  But fair enough, too.  She started off seeming really organised and then the wheels fell off big time.  I think the result was a little bit of karma, too, because when the judges were trying to tell her she needed to hurry up a bit she was quite rude to them.

Coles Shill was trying to be warm and cuddly tonight as opposed to his last appearance on the show, but I'm not convinced.

I hate to say it but Pezza's first two dishes actually did look good, especially the main.  And even if he didn't exactly push the boat out with his dessert, at least it didn't have any errors in execution.

I'm pretty sure that if anyone else but Nat had served up that dessert with the hard as a rock pie crust, the judges would have roundly condemned it as a terrible error but since they can't bear to criticise their pet, they were again trying so hard to be positive about it.  It almost makes me want Pezza to win (I said almost!) but he won't - I'm still convinced of this.

S16•E49 - Semi Final

A very predictable Semi Final.

Pezza comes into the Semi Final with achievable strategies - to showcase Tassie, keep it simple & execute it well. But I wouldn’t call his menu “refined” though. The judges are exaggerating. 🙄

Nat’s servings are quite stingy - small main and that small tart is cut in half for each serving. Sh!tty plating. A “chef ready” cook but doesn’t know how to make tart shell??! If she continues to make mistakes tomorrow, Pezza will take home the title.

I don’t understand the hate towards Andy on X and Reddit. Everybody is accusing him of being a d!ck to Nat when all he does is pushing her to the finish line. The other 3 judges don’t bother to do that.

Not really excited to see Clare Smyth in the finale. Her personality doesn’t translate well on TV, a bit stiff. Her dishes too.

Who’s Auntie Poh trying to seduce here? The cameras keep zooming at the plates her cleavage during tasting. Classy! 😣

Well, blow me down - Nat won! 🤯🤯🤯 I did NOT see that coming at all.  Not for a second did I ever believe she would be the one they chose.  Not even when the first thing we saw in the first episode of the season was a long, loving montage of Nat doing skate-y things, Nat and her tatts, Nat talking about her alternative lifestyle and cultural confusion.  Not even when she won the only immunity pin on offer for the season.   Not even when she made mistakes and the judges turned themselves inside out trying to find ways to excuse them.  No, this evening's episode was a massive shock from which it'll take me a while to recover.

In all seriousness, the egregious favouritism from day dot actually got me to a point where I WANTED Pezza to win and was actually quite sad for him that he didn't.  And I cannot believe I just typed that!

Well, folks, whilst feeling nearly as disappointed with this season as I did with the last one and the pre-destined win of Brent Draper, I will miss chatting about the show with you lovely people and no doubt, being the masochist that I am, will line up again to go through it all next year when I hope they find a winner I LIKE.  Man, it's been a while since that's happened!

Am not watching the finale. There’s too much Nat, more than I can take - her verbalization, her ribbons, her antennas etc. UGH.

The dishes that they cook in round 1 are NOT finale-worthy. Scotch egg and steak with peppercorn sauce, really??! This is what happened when the contestants are encouraged to stay in their comfort zone all season. No creativity, no pushing the limits whatsoever.

Both S15 and S16 have been disappointing when it comes to the quality of the winner and blatant favoritism by the judges/producers. 👎🏻

Well ladies, see you next season. 😉
