The series is based on a Liane Moriarty 2021 novel of the same name and follows a family whose lives seem perfect. However, when the matriarch goes missing, the cracks in the family's facade start to become exposed. Former tennis coaches, Joy and Stan, have recently sold their successful tennis academy and are ready to start the golden years of their lives. A life of leisure where the married couple look forward to spending time with their four grown children, even though those kids might be busy with their own problems. Joy and Stan's plans change when a wounded young woman knocks on their door, bringing with her an excitement that they hadn't realized that they had been missing. After this incidence, Joy disappears, and Stan is seriously looked at as a suspect. The children are conflicted and are forced to re-examine their parents' marriage and their family history with fresh eyes.
