Praise Petey is a 10 episode animated TV series airing two episodes each week starting on July 21, 2023 on Freeform at 10pm. The show follows Petey, a New York City “it” girl who has it all until her life comes crashing down around her. As luck would have it, a mysterious gift from her father gives her a new lease on life: She’s going to “lean into” modernizing his small-town cult called "New Utopia".

Annie Murphy as Petra, a.k.a. Petey, once the girl who had everything, now she has to use her city smarts to revamp her father’s failing cult and be a better leader than he was, a much more laidback one — a nice one — a girl boss! 

Christine Baranski as White, Petey’s mother, a magazine editor, Manhattan society woman and a terrifying perfectionist who’s never eaten, tasted or seen ketchup.

John Cho as Bandit, a potential love interest for Petey and a cult member since childhood whose mother was a high-ranking member.

Amy Hill as Mae Mae, Bandit’s Southern mama oozing with Southern hospitality who happens to be the right-hand woman of a cult leader. 

Kiersey Clemons as Eliza, a bartender at the local bar and reluctant BFF to Petey, working at her new cult. 

Stephen Root as Petey’s father, a loving, charming, homespun, stone-cold cult leader with some pretty unique ideas about meditation, space, jumping up and down in a field, and how his bloodline is necessary for the salvation of mankind. He may or may not be dead.

In her first act as cult leader, Petey liberates her new followers from their demeaning jobs and tries to come up with a vision statement. Mae Mae struggles with the sudden unemployment crisis.

S01.E04: Father's Knee

Petey discovers that her father used to have his own local magazine, inspiring Petey to revive it and make it her own. She chooses Bandit for her cover story to prove she’s open to dissent.

Petey and Eliza scheme to bring an honest income to New Utopia by renting out barns as wedding venues for the Manhattan elite. When her ex Brian is their first client, Petey scrambles to make it the perfect night — and to make him jealous.

S01.E06: Not-Sad Adult Birthday    
It's Petey’s birthday, also known as Crowning Day to the inhabitants of New Utopia. Petey is disappointed to learn that the celebrations are more about White instead of her. Eliza and Bandit both have surprises for Petey.

The lack of traffic is not promising for renewal chances but I think this show is a blast. Annie Murphy's voice acting for this role is very reminiscent of her Alexis Rose voice, so that was already a win.

(Season Finale)

The fated comet is coming! Skeptical, Petey and Bandit prepare to support disappointed cult members in the aftermath until Petey begins to worry what her life looks like without the cult’s devotion.
