Rhondinella March 13, 2014 Share March 13, 2014 She seems to me like one of the more well-rounded characters on the show. She has nuances, which Carson, among others, sometimes does not. Link to comment
Andorra March 31, 2014 Share March 31, 2014 She's my second favourite character after Tom Branson. I love it that she is some kind of surrogate mother for him and his "go to" person. Link to comment
SnarkySheep April 4, 2014 Share April 4, 2014 She's also been a strong surrogate mother for Anna. IMO it was no accident that Anna chose to wait in Mrs. Hughes' office until the latter came back downstairs after the concert. Not to get all fan-ficy, but I really could see her and Mr. Carson getting married and living together in their old age. But if that weren't to happen, I still greatly enjoy their friendship. Not many people have that kind of support system. 3 Link to comment
Rhondinella April 5, 2014 Author Share April 5, 2014 The relationship between Mrs. Hughes and Mr. Carson is the ideal version of the relationship that Emma Thompson and Anthony Hopkins portrayed in The Remains of the Day. They both acted the heck out of that movie, but I still never believed their relationship, because there wasn't much chemistry. Hughes and Carson, however, I could totally buy together. 2 Link to comment
