zenithwit January 1, 2023 Share January 1, 2023 Quote Drag superstar Trixie Mattel is expanding her empire. With the help of her boyfriend and co-owner David and a host of celebrity guests, she uses her retro-kitschy style to turn a rundown motel in Palm Springs, California, into the ultimate drag paradise. Finally caught this gem on HBO Max (thank you Warner Bros Discovery merger?) and really enjoyed it. Has anyone else watched this show? 2 Link to comment
EtheltoTillie January 4, 2023 Share January 4, 2023 Just started it. I love the Palm Springs esthetic. Can someone explain the merger. I have the Discovery plus channel as an add on with Prime. Should I drop it? Will all that content be on HBO Max? Annoyingly, HBO Max has dropped some of the old HBO content. 1 1 Link to comment
LemonSoda January 5, 2023 Share January 5, 2023 I really love this show. The aesthetics are so cute. Add me to the list of those displeased with the loss of HBO content due to the merger. 2 Link to comment

In the meantime, it looks like they are adding content from Discovery+ to HBO Max (and probably vice versa). Trixie Motel was probably an obvious candidate to add to HBO Max since HBO Max has had success with other shows featuring Drag queens (like We're Here). Back to the motel: my favorite room hands down was the Pink Flamingo room. This may be an unpopular opinion but I wasn't crazy about the honey bee honeymoon suite. Don't get me wrong, it was totally Trixie's aesthetic and fit the rest of the motel but... it didn't really feel like a room like I would want to spend my honeymoon in. 4 Link to comment

I know I’m probably in the minority but I like them separate. I want my HBO content to stay in its space. I want my Discovery+ to stay in its space because I love its vast content of everything from cooking shows I never thought I’d see again to ID shows I never got around to watching. Agreed, The honey bee honeymoon suite isn’t somewhere I’d want to spend my honeymoon. 3 Link to comment
Juneau Gal January 28, 2023 Share January 28, 2023 Agree with the Honeymoon Suite; it didn’t have a kitchenette and to me that made it less desirable. All the rooms were fun, if they were in someone’s house. All I kept thinking was how none of it would stand up to motel use. How would you clean 90% of that stuff. And I hope they had lots extra of the custom linens cause they are gonna get trashed with a quickness. 1 Link to comment

Also they made such a big deal about the shower and the result was really "meh". If it's really that expensive how does it not have more jets and stuff? I guess they wanted that retro aesthetic, but I'm sure you could have gotten that or at least something close with modern functions. What does something looking pretty give you if it doesn't do its job well? Link to comment
