Deadline (April 14th): AppleTV+’s Ambitious Sam Esmail Sci-Fi Drama ‘Metropolis’ To Shoot In Australia Quote The production is expected to create nearly 4,000 jobs in the state of Victoria, where filming will take place, and make use of one of the world’s largest ‘virtual production’ infrastructures. ... The Victorian Government is supporting the build of state-of-the-art virtual production infrastructure, including one of the world’s largest permanent ‘LED volumes’ (high-tech digital screens that display background environments and visual effects on set). The tech was used in Disney+ series The Mandolarian. Sydney Morning Herald (April 14th): Metropolis comes Down Under: Cinema’s most famous robot in $188 million reboot Quote Metropolis is an eight-part original series inspired by Fritz Lang’s 1927 feature film of the same name. The $188 million series for Apple TV+ will be filmed in Australia by Universal Studio Group in conjunction with its local offshoot Matchbox Pictures. Pre-production on the series is expected to commence in October, with shooting to begin early 2023. Esmail, who also co-created the Amazon Prime Video series Homecoming, will write and direct all eight episodes.
