The Center Seat: 55 Years Of Star Trek is a multi-episode documentary series that takes viewers on the definitive in-depth journey behind the scenes of one of the greatest landmark franchises of all time: Star Trek. Celebrating the show’s 55th anniversary, each episode focuses on a different chapter in the groundbreaking program’s history, starting with its inception at Lucille Ball’s legendary production company Desilu. Interviews with the cast, crew and experts reveal never-before-heard backstage stories and offer fresh insights. No stone is left unturned, including lesser-known aspects of the franchise like The Animated Series and Phase II. Additionally, The Center Seat features one of Leonard Nimoy’s final in-depth Trek interviews. Star Trek is the most iconic television science-fiction saga of all time and remains more popular than ever. The Center Seat details how it began, where it’s been, and how it’s boldly going where no television series has gone before!

It’s on Fridays at 10pm ET and premiered November 5. It’s supposed to be 10 episodes but it looks like the first 4 will be on the History Channel and the remaining 6 will be shown via History’s streaming site http://www.thefutoncritic.com/news/2021/10/25/the-history-channel-to-celebrate-star-treks-55th-anniversary-with-ten-part-docuseries-the-center-seat-55-years-of-star-trek-premiering-friday-november-5-at-10pm-et-pt-391011/20211025history01/

I really enjoyed the first episode, going through how the show was created and how Lucille Ball was involved via her Desilu studio

Episode 2: "Saturday Morning Pinks" (November 12, 2021) - This may be about Star Trek: The Animated Series from the 70s

By the way, the series is narrated and executive-produced by Gates McFadden (TNG's Doctor Crusher)

Wow. I guess not everything was roses when it came to Star Trek. The venom Harold Livingston had for Gene Rodenberry after all these years was startling. I can't believe these movies were made by the seat of their pants. So glad commentary from Nimoy was able to be included. Not sure why they say IV is the least Trekky of the movies. To me it was classic Star Trek with all the humor. Things don't have to be esoteric to be Star Trek. Hope the rest of these episodes can be found On Demand since we don't have streaming.

It looks like the remaining 6 titles on the History Vault website are the following:

- Dancing in Syndication in the Pale Moonlight - covers Deep Space Nine, 42 minutes

- It’s Been a Long Time… - How Star Trek: Enterprise, already struggling, got undercut by making the 3rd season a reaction to 9/11, 37 minutes (wow, that’s rather bold)

- Queue for Q - Looks at Star Trek: The Next Generation and the first time an hour long scripted show was sold directly to syndication, 42 minutes

- Starships A-Z - Looks at Federation vessels that aren’t appreciated enough, 42 minutes

- Trek Stars - Hear from many of the actors who were leads, supporting cast and guest stars, 1 hour 25 minutes

- Voyage(r) to the Delta Quadrant - Looks at Star Trek: Voyager, 42 minutes
