kieyra August 26, 2020 Share August 26, 2020 Hulu Picks Up Sally Rooney’s Conversations With Friends Series Quote Hulu announced a 12-episode, straight-to-series order of Sally Rooney’s debut novel, Conversations With Friends, in association with BBC Three. The drama series will consist of half-hour episodes helmed by Irish director Lenny Abrahamson, who also directed Hulu’s adaptation of Rooney’s other novel, Normal People. Alice Birch, who was a writer on Normal People and story editor on Succession, will be lead writer for the adaptation. The novel Conversations With Friends, which came out in 2017, also takes place in Connell’s Trinity College Dublin stomping grounds. It follows Frances, her friend Bobbi, and their relationships with an older married couple of art-world somebodies. Link to comment

Conversations with Friends is in the same vein as the steamy hit TV series "Normal People" also streaming on Hulu, which was based on the Sally Rooney 2018 second novel. "Conversations with Friends" is based on Sally Rooney's 2017 first novel. “Conversations with Friends” follows Frances, a 21 year old Dublin university student, as she navigates a series of relationships that force her to confront her own vulnerabilities for the first time. Frances' ex-girlfriend, now best friend, Bobbi, 21, even though they broke up three years ago, they are virtually inseparable and perform spoken word poetry together in Dublin. The duo meet Melissa at one of their shows, an older journalist who becomes fascinated with pair. Bobbi and Frances start to spend time with Melissa and her husband, Nick, a handsome but reserved actor. While Melissa and Bobbi flirt with each other openly, Nick and Frances embark on an intense secret affair that is surprising to them both. Soon their sexually charged relationships begins to test the bonds between Frances and Bobbi, as Bobbi finds herself defending Melissa and distancing herself from Frances, forcing Frances to reconsider her sense of self, and the friendship she holds so dear. The resulting love triangles upend their lives over the course of a semester packed with dinner parties, beach houses, torrid affairs, marriage, love, friendship, jealousy, and everything in between.
