Tara Ariano March 5, 2014 Share March 5, 2014 Now that I've seen three different versions of this format I can tell you she is the worst Asperger's lady cop of them all! I dare you to fight me! Link to comment
Milburn Stone March 28, 2014 Share March 28, 2014 We checked out this show last night on the recommendation of a friend. Turned it off because of Sonya Cross's characterization. There is no way a police department would assign someone like her to do interviews in a homicide investigation. The interview of the husband was clearly not her first such, yet neither she nor, apparently, her bosses have learned anything from experience. Strained credulity big time. Link to comment
Sir RaiderDuck OMS July 10, 2014 Share July 10, 2014 (edited) As someone with Asperger's (not just myself, but family members as well), the entire character grates. Her lack of social graces would be perfectly credible were her character a teenager, not someone in her early-mid 30s. By that time, any Aspie would have learned that the accepted response to being offered a drink by a stranger is either polite acceptance or refusal, not a blunt "No" followed by "DO YOU WANT TO HAVE SEX WITH ME?" Similarly, you learn what the proper responses are in social situations, even if you don't know it instinctively. You mimic others' responses and learn by observing the reactions of the people you're interacting with (and sometimes, by their directly telling you) what works and what doesn't. A detective Sonya Cross' age and intelligence would be nowhere near this socially tone-deaf. Edited July 10, 2014 by Sir RaiderDuck OMS Link to comment
