What is this format? One of my favorite parts of the show is watching people interact with each other! I wonder why they are doing this?

I have not watched for a while so I tuned in after your comment. The game had been like this for a while, I think. Meredith has been Zooming from her basement and I think everyone else is in studio. The rules are read by Meredith every single day throughout the episode. Ad nauseum. When I felt I could probably recite the rules better than she, it was time for me to switch to a different show. There is truly not much game playing. This show is at least half rules and chit-chat.

The was only in person the first season.   Starting with the second season, the contestants and celebrities are in "pods" in LA and Meredith hosts from her home on the East Coast.   Season 2 still had 2 celebrities and 1 player.  Season 3 they switched to the current format of 1 celebrity and 2 players who carryover from episode to episode until they lose.

I love this show, but the rules seem to be so random.  For example, today, the word was 'bandage,' and the clue given was 'Band-aid.'  That was not allowed because of the 'band' part.  However, earlier this week, the word was 'extrovert, and the clue was 'opposite introvert.'  So, out of a three-syllable word, two of the syllables were identical, and yet, it was allowed.

eta:  I was thinking maybe it was because the 'band' part was at the beginning of the word, but I found this upthread:

I actually think they can bee strict sometimes.   One time the word was Valentine's Day and the player gave the clue "February Holiday" and they were buzzed out because they said part of the word.

So, yeah, no rhyme or reason.

On another topic, I notice how when a team is told something like, "You've won a stay in New York City," they understandably think they're getting a trip, including airfare.  It's obviously just a stay in a hotel, since no airline is ever mentioned.  And they never say the amount of time, like 'a week's stay.'  It may be a two-day stay, for all we know.

By the way, I love the 'pod' format.  I hope they never go back to the old format.
