  1. You know what I like in Dod Kalm? Mark Snow's score. And when Scully mixes up that cocktail with sardine juice and lemons and Mulder wants her to have it instead of him. But oh dear God, that make up. It's laughably bad. Solid X-File otherwise. I wholeheartedly concur with this. Yes!!! Me too!
  2. Yep. Comedy gold. "Federal Bureau of Investigation is mispelled." "Typo." "Twice."
  3. I'm also fond of, "I was just here....where did I go?" And the whole bit with Eddie's hat at the end. "...which would be fine, except every week she brings me a new hat." It's the delivery that kills me.
  4. Now there's a monumental task. I don't think I could pick just five from the whole series. But Small Potatoes would probably make it. I can probably quote the majority of it from memory. Which is probably a little sad, but oh well. David Duchovny does a fabulous job as Eddie Van Blundt, and the whole thing is just hilarious from start to finish. I think my favorite part, and this is random, is when Eddie senior falls out of the attic onto Mulder and he yells out, "I'm alright!" and Scully's just like, "What?" For some reason that cracks me up every time.
  5. Detective Manners was pure gold. "I am familiar with Detective Manners' colorful phraseology." And there are some great funny lines in it. It's not a bad episode. I just kind of hate the two stupid kids, especially the girl. And somehow that kills it for me. It's still closer to the top than the bottom.
  6. 2Shy is gross but I like it. It could only work in the 90s though, when everyone was like, "OMG, don't meet anyone from the internet, they're all axe murders." I don't get why Jose Chung makes so many favorites lists. It's a good episode, but I have no idea what in the hell happened. Which I guess is the point, but it's just frustrating.
  7. I still use, "Sure. Fine. Whatever." You know what? I do too. Anasazi, right to Paper Clip. Every time.
  8. Favorites: Small Potatoes: This is probably the episode I put on most frequently when I'm in a random X-Files mood. It's just hilarious. Paper Hearts: Mulder in this episode. It's so good I overlook the fact that the hearts are made of cloth, and not paper. Leonard Betts: You've got something I need...the acting in that scene... Unruhe: I loved Scully in this. Even though she gets kidnapped by the bad guy, again. Plus it's just a cool idea. Home: I guess I'm just twisted that way. Everyone always says this is the creepiest episode or the most disturbing, and it doesn't bother me. Least: El Mundo Gira: Any time they try to do these ethnic episodes, it's just a fail. Like Shapes, just with Mexicans. See also, my next least favorite, Teliko. The Field Where I Died: Please, never cry on my screen again, Mulder. It's painful to watch. And I hated the woman who played Melissa or whatever her name was. Unrequited is pretty boring. I usually skip it.
  9. Favorites: Clyde Bruckman: Peter Boyle is awesome in this. The whole episode is pure gold. War of the Coprophages: I just always loved this one. "Are you sure it wasn't a girly scream?" Wetwired: I love Scully's freak out in this. Pusher: Russian roulette scene. And I'm going to cheat for the 5th one and say all the mytharc eps. This is before the mythology starts to eat itself alive. And you could still follow the plot and feel like you knew what was going on. Least: Hell Money: Tied with Space for most boring episode ever The List: Boring and not even the super gross maggots could save it. The Walk: Also boring Grotesque: Just too dark. Not the tone. The actual lighting. I never knew what the hell was going on. And of course, Teso Dos Bichos, for the killer kitties of doom.
  10. Crap, I forgot Irresistable. Add that to the favorites list as well.
  11. I'll play... Favorites: Die Hand Die Verletzt - just creepy as all get out. That big giant snake. And Mrs. Paddock. I'm a bio teacher and every time we dissect pigs I think of that scene. Our Town - also creepy. Even though the ending was stupid because in reality Scully should've been able to easily escape from that contraption. There was plenty of room. Also, "Good People Good Food" is hilarious. Anasazi -- holy crap that cliffhanger. I think this is my favorite mytharc episode. The Host -- they were separated and Scully did the whole cloak and dagger routine because she knew that was the only way Mulder would meet her. Loved that. Also, there's a mutant worm in the NJ sewer, and it's really Darin Morgan in the suit. What's not to love? Duane Barry/Ascension - I'm cheating here and picking 2. But I can't stop there. I have to add Humbug for bringing the fun, and F. Emasculata for taking the gross factor to new heights. So that's 8. But I only have 2 least favorites: Fearful Symmetry was a snoozefest, and 3, which I've only seen maybe twice.
  12. That's the line! I was wracking my brain but couldn't remember the rest. I've only seen Jersey Devil a couple times just because I'm from Jersey, and that was so not the Jersey Devil. I should know, I did a report in the 4th grade, so that makes me an expert. Clearly. Meanwhile, I think that the fact that I did a report on the Jersey Devil when the topic was NJ history says something about me.
  13. Any time spent on talking about or watching the X-Files is a good use of time! Even Space has a function in that it is insomnia curing. I don't think I've ever heard that line about getting a pony and braiding her hair because I must just be asleep by then. I don't think I've made it past the teaser more than twice.
  14. I also loved her dry sense of humor back in season 1. What was that line in Jersey Devil, "I'll hurt you like that beast woman." Something like that - it's been ages since I rewatched season 1. I might need to rectify that. And "Care to take me to lunch?" along with the "Is that what you were extending?" bit in Fire help save it from being one of my least favorite episodes of the season. And she even smiled sometimes! She did need help in the wardrobe department. All that oversized shapeless flannel was just a crime against fashion. And that outfit she wore on her one date - that was atrocious. The 90s were not a good look for anybody. At least her approximately 300 black pants suits in the later seasons were tailored and she didn't look like she was playing dress up in her mother's clothes.
  15. Favorites: Ice -- There was one summer way back when the episodes were sold on VHS that I literally watched Ice every single day. Beyond the Sea -- after this episode, and that one scene with Boggs, I wanted to BE Scully. Chills. Darkness Falls -- it was basically Ice set in the forest but who cares. Still entertaining. Eve -- I still wish this would've gotten the sequel treatment. Squeeze/Tooms - I'm counting them as 1. Sue me. Least favorites: Space...dear God, the boredom...that is the X-Files answer to a cure for insomnia. Shapes Born Again Ghost in the Machine And the one with the guy with the salamander hand that I'm blanking on the name. Young at Heart? It was so terrible I can't remember what it was called.
  16. For those of us without a DVR, the first five episodes are on demand right now.
  17. queequeg, those are all good questions. I always thought the mushroom spores contained the hallucinogen and that's what makes the people go in to the cave to begin with. Kind of like the Cordyceps zombie ant fungus that takes over the ant's behavior in order to help spread the spores. (Youtube that video if you have not seen it - nature is nuts.) The fungus in this case makes the victims hallucinate so they'll go underground by entering the cave where they can be ensnared and digested by the giant fungal mycelium. Or perhaps the biologist part of me is overthinking this too much. I guess we all have to go watch the episode again. Such a hardship...
  18. Field Trip is one of my favorites. Although I did not get the title for the longest time. Doh. I always assumed that the hallucination in the teaser was the Schiffs' hallucination before they died and that the bodies were actually in that position both before and after being expelled by the fungus. Like either Mr. or Mrs. Schiff were hallucinating lying in bed like that together and so they actually assumed that position while ensnared by the fungus, if that makes any sense. Kind of like when you're half asleep and dreaming and the ringing phone becomes part of the dream? Scully must've tracked Mulder to the cave and entered it. Didn't we see her releasing a cloud of spores too, or was that only Mulder?
  19. They could have a DVD extra of Tom Mison reading the phone book and I'd be sold. But you're absolutely right about a blooper reel probably being hilarious. Also, August is too far away, and On Demand only has from Midnight Ride up to the finale. I might have to pony up the two bucks per episdoe.
