This was a nice episode. I liked that Taylor understood what it was like to be a parent.

Nice to see their grandmother again. I think she's good for the show in small doses. Greg's assistant at works character is annoying and they need to get rid of him.

I can't stand that character and I truly hope he is gone for good!

This scares me that we fans have not made enough noise about this show. We need to be really loud about how much we like it or we will be sad fans.

Yes!  This is the best, funniest show that most people don't even know about!!   I will be gutted if it's not renewed.  Nothing on television makes me laugh so much.  And with such a large, interesting mix of characters portrayed by so many talented actors - they have so many possibilities for keeping the storylines fresh and hilarious for many years.  Plus the setting is something that hasn't been done to death.

Easter under Wraps. The new Easter movie. I have it on while baking pies for tomorrow.

The lead isn't being played as quirky or confused, she is a rude bitch. The love interest was just offered a management role with the competitor, and he should take it just to get away from her.

She isn't likable in any way at work, and makes her fellow employees' lives worse. (She is the owner's daughter undercover, and there are some campy scenes, but mostly she is a distracted jerk)

I came on here to post this as the last step before turning this off for watching the 10 Commandments for the 40th time. I suspect I will be turning the channel soon.

    Update:

The widower love interest just introduced his daughter and the lead actress made an effort to be very nice and bubbly to the child. So at least she and the director knew to do that.

Thanks for watching and posting about it... so I don't have to 😉 watch it!  I had a feeling it was going to suck.  I appreciate you taking one for the team. 😄

One more thing: I have never seen or heard of that thing William was playing.

The Sheldon character had one in a Big Bang Theory episode.  (I think his younger self had one in the spin-off also, if I'm not mistaken.)   I believe it's called a theremin.

  6. I expected to like this, but I really didn't.   I kind of hated it, to tell you the truth.  And I generally like Dax and Lake.

Ed Begley Jr.'s character didn't work for me at all.  (I normally like him, too.  In fact, he was in the only Modern Family episode I halfway liked this season before I bailed.)

I also hated the way the show portrayed the rural Midwesterners -  I found it insulting and tone deaf.   Then again the NYC folks were idiots, or in the case of the mom, obnoxious... so they didn't fare all that well either.

It could have been my mood, but I don't think it was, since I loved (and laughed a lot at) American Housewife and The Kids Are Alright.  I will probably give it one more episode just to make sure it's not for me... but I am not optimistic.

Also, I know cable providers vary, but if you have Charter/Spectrum, it's free in the On Demand feature.

No one has commented yet about the cuteness of Pat this episode!  His little plaid shirt with plaid underwear made me laugh.  Then he liked it when the low notes of the organ tickled his butt.

Haha!  I loved that.  I love Pat in every episode, though!  William's reaction to Pat's "tickled my butt" comment was perfect.  I love him too!  And Joey, and Lawrence and pretty much everybody else in this show.  (Although I prefer a little less focus on the Timmy character.)

Edited to Add:  Timmy was quite the jerk in this episode, wasn't he?  I was happy when Peggy locked him out.  And his "This is the worst thing to happen to anyone, ever!" lament as he slid down the door was hilarious!  (So dramatic!  Haha.)

At first I thought this was going to be a typical Katie "bad attitude" episode, but it turned into a delight with an appearance from Spencer and a valuable lesson for the kids.  I wish they never killed Spencer off.  After a string of disappointing episodes, this one felt back on track with previous seasons.

My only nitpick was the cake shop owner.  Who would insist on ID in a small shop like that?  I know, it's a TV show.

I'm assuming it's because the cake was ordered and paid for online... so the owner's policy was for ID to confirm she's giving it to the person who paid for it.

I really enjoyed this episode.  It was very funny and I liked how the kids' issues were resolved.

I have always said that I am 100% NOT interested in winning a very expensive item like a house or "dream" car and would definitely take the cash option.

Case in point: about 20 or so years ago there was some contest where the grand prize was a Ferrari which I believe was valued at around $200,000. A big discussion ensued at my then workplace about how great it would be to win that car. I remember saying absolutely not and a Miss Know-it-All have me grief about saying that. I said that's because I live in Virginia.

In today's dollars in Arlington, Virginia, a $200,000 vehicle will cost you $18,300 up front; that's $10,000 (5% for every $100 in value) in property tax and $8,300 in a one-time sales and use tax of 4.15%. All of this would be in addition to the usual costs for tags, registration, inspection sticker, etc. Also, I don't even want to know what the annual cost of car insurance for a Ferrari would be. BTW, property tax is an annual expense in Virginia for as long as you own your vehicle unless it's an o!d "hoopty" LOL! So that would be a bill of well over $20,000 you'd have to shell out after winning your "free" car.

Thanks but no thanks; just gimme the cash.

Oh definitely.  And you would also need to pay income taxes, in addition to property and sales taxes, which in my area would be almost an additional $65,000!

I thought the movie got better as it went along.  The beginning started a bit serious but as it got further into the You've Got Mail/Shop Around The Corner of it all, I started getting into it more.

Bethany and Andrew are really good together and I would like to see them more.  I found it better than most of the Hallmark movies but not quite to the heights of Love To The Rescue. And Snowed Inn is still their better entry.

I thought she was closer to the uptight trope than perky.

Yeah, she was much more uptight here than she was in the last movie I watched of hers, Royal Matchmaker.

I enjoyed it too but, like you, not as much as Love to the Rescue or Snowed Inn Christmas.

I also thought it got better as it went along, but some of that may have been because...

of the hype.  Especially with the two stars announcing its critical claim immediately before the start of the movie.  That right there predisposes me to view it more critically.  (I always have a more difficult time liking something that I've been told is great, or a classic, and conversely am more apt to enjoy something for which I have low expectations.)

  13. The first half of this episode was broken up a lot - I don't know if it was the broadcast or my cable company.  Did anybody else have issues like that?  I wish they would rerun this entire series.  Maybe this summer?

The problem seemed to be resolved by the second half of the episode - I loved what I saw and laughed out loud a bunch of times.  I need to watch the whole thing on abc.com tomorrow.

I didn't love it either.  I am all for fantasy and can suspend disbelief with the best of them, but Sarah's character, expecting a multimillion dollar condo development to be cancelled so that she could have free access to continue a community garden because her father started it?  C'mon!  Amongst other things, if she and her father thought it was so important, why didn't they use their own land?  Or, like most other communities. use public land.  When she went to the mayor, I thought maybe something logical would happen like the city would tear down an abandoned house and let her use the lot.   Her character's naivete, thinking that getting a couple dozen signatures on a petition or having a half dozen people picket the project was going to change the developer's mind and get him to turn the land over to her was just dumb, IMO.  I also wondered why, when it looked like the whole garden was about a dozen small raised beds, each about the size of a mini-van, they needed a big lot anyway;  I guess I am too logical for romance.

I totally agree with you and found all of that stuff ridiculous.  Even what was planted bugged me.  I felt like community gardens are normally used for people who don't have their own land (or container garden space) to be able to grow edible plants.  I could even see somebody wanting to grow a cutting garden.  But planting azaleas and things like that in a raised plot in a community garden was just silly to me.

I also didn't like the bickering tomato/pepper people.

But with everything that bothered me, I still really liked the lead couple... so even though I already deleted it and won't watch it again... I did get some enjoyment out of it... which was a big step up from last week.

Well, you're right in that it's not WaPo or the Times, but I would never expect that. However, Entertainment Tonight, Parade, and US Weekly aren't exactly Hallmark Hausfraus or some unknown blogger in his or her basement cranking out reviews. I guess they've gotta start somewhere.

On another topic, I enjoyed True Love Blooms for the most part. Way better than last week's movie, if not exactly to the level of Love to the Rescue or Flip That Romance. But much closer than I expected. Irlandesa and AnnaRose captured my "like" and "WTF?" moments, so I'll just say that the find of the movie for me was Jordan Bridges. I realized I have seen him before, on the show Gone with Danny Pino and Chris Noth, as an unscrupulous news photographer. But he was much more appealing in this movie. He definitely has his share of the Bridges family charisma.

I loved Jordan Bridges in this Christmas movie from 2011 that I watched last year - Holiday Engagement.  He was very appealing in that one.

The leads in True Love Blossoms were good together.  I liked the girlfriend character because they used her in a way I don't remember using the significant other before in that she's the one who got him to consider Sarah Rue's character's position. And minimalizing him out of her life was funny---a joke I saw coming but still funny.

This movie wasn't as good as Love To The Rescue but it was much better than last week.  But oy, the last segment "misunderstanding" really knocked this movie down a few pegs in my book.  When she falsely thought he hadn't found a way to save the garden, she was ridiculously angry at him like she betrayed her.  That went against their previous scenes where she trusted him that he'd try to find a solution to the garden while realizing he might not pull it off.  And then she wouldn't even let him get a word in edgewise.

Finally, when he asked her to take one final walk with him, it was daytime, but by the time they reached the top of his office building, it was dusk/dark. WTH?

I found the ads to next weeek's movie to be interesting in that they're advertising critical reviews. I don't remember them ever doing that before.

Your post accurately sums up my feelings about True Love Blooms, Irlandesa - especially the bolded part!  Sara Rue's character's reaction at the end of the movie was annoying, particularly when she wouldn't let Jordan Bridges' character speak. The rest of it was generally enjoyable though, mostly because I really like the leads.  Much better than last week, but yes, not nearly as good as Love to the Rescue.

I fast-forwarded through the commercial but caught a sound bite about critics and it seemed to be for next week's movie, which intrigued me, but not enough to go back and check out the commercial... so I'm glad you mentioned it.  That is strange.  I'm hoping it is another gem like Love to the Rescue.

I've always believed Leonard cares about Sheldon. For me, it came in an early episode, when Sheldon has a mini breakdown over a physics equation he can't solve, and "escapes" to a ballpit at a gaming center. They call Leonard to come, and when he sees Sheldon, he says, "Oh, Shelly." The depth of his caring came through in those two words.

True.  And it's been shown that Sheldon cares for Leonard too.  Like when he went to Penny and asked her to please not hurt his friend.

The channel.needs to diversify their movies to be less romance..and more other subjects like family, friendship, personal fulfillment...be a more family friendly version of the old school 5v network TV movies.

For being in the 'dark ages', tv movies in the 70s and 80s were better made and more forward thinking than what's offered 9n Hallmark/lifetime..etc

    That sounds great to me!

I couldn't get through A Brush With Love.  It was such a let down after the last two new Hallmark movies.  The first 30 minutes felt like 3 hours to me.  I didn't particularly like the actor who played Max or the character who seemed kind of stalkerish and unable to take a hint.

I stuck it out until the lady in charge of 'curating' the art fair (or whatever it was) disliked Jamie's paintings but then was gushing over her half-finished vision board painting.  I just couldn't, anymore.

In addition to the far superior recent Hallmark movies Love to the Rescue and Flip That Romance, I had just watched Royal Matchmaker from last year, starring Bethany Joy Lenz and Will Kemp.  That movie was very enjoyable and just flew by, in stark opposition to A Brush With Love

To me, Nick Bateman seemed like the generic male-model type that Hallmark often casts as the love interest, but who lack the charm of actors like Michael Rady, Tyler Hynes,  Will Kemp or Kristoffer Polaha.

I don't know his name, but I even liked the character with the accent better than the lead... or at least I did until I bailed.  We didn't see much of the him at that point, but I had been hoping he would be 'the one' instead of the landscape architect.  I FFed through the rest of the movie, hoping it might actually take a more interesting turn and not be the same old trope of the woman realizing the man she hates is her one true love... but nope... nothing surprising in this movie.

I watched the show yesterday. I agree that Katie's character, IMO, is bordering on un-likeable. I'm getting a bit tired of her always yelling and acting up. Her behavior at her husband's historical dress up club social was unacceptable even for a TV show. She is usually pretty mean and disrespectful to her very nice husband, who IMO is much more intelligent and mannerly than she is. Don't care much for Katie any more.

I think this show is turning in to a parody of characters, not at all real ones any more. The rich, neglected son, (Oliver's friend) is a sad character. He is so alone and abandoned by his parents, I would think that Katie and her husband could be warmer to him.

The two older children are ungrateful for what their parents are able to give them. Ana Kat is being written differently too. They dropped the special needs in her and she's beginning to be the best of the kids.

I hope they fix this show because the premise of it was that the mother was a 'housewife' with a somewhat healthy home life and household.  Just not a perfect one. Her friends that she breakfasts with are also becoming weird.

My favorite character is the husband who gets mistreated and disrespected by his family, which should not take place. He is a good man and should be treated as such.

They have needed to tone down Katie for a long time.  And I think her friends have been weird a long time too.  (Doris is even worse than Katie and I wouldn't be sad to see her go.  They are the worst part of most episodes IMO.)

Greg is wonderful and I too would like to see him treated better in general.

  22. Did anybody watch the new episode?  I thought it was a good one.  It's always great to see Cooper B!   I have a huge character-crush on him.  His scenes with Oliver were great, and I love his joyful appreciation of Mrs. O and her meatloaf. (All of her recipes are just meat and supermarket seasoning packets!)

The actor playing the sad basement-arcade attendant was fantastic.  "Fourteen tickettsss.  Well dooonnnnne."  And the montage at the end killed me.

I was glad to see Trip again, too, and he had some funny lines.

And Anna-Kat, I know exactly what you meant about men brushing off a suggestion when it comes from a woman, but then all of a sudden it's terrific advice when a man says the same damn thing.

I liked Greg's storyline with his new friend too, and Katie being upset because she wanted him to have a friend, not a new best friend.

Pat saying in his sweet little voice that the "clams" made him feel hot and he could hear colors had me rolling.   That kid.

    He liked it!!

Also, when Joey was pulling out weeds but Pat kept putting them back in because he was learning to farm!  Haha!  And his mom was the first female in the world to get a drivers license!    He lives in his own little world, doesn't he? 😆

I loved that the cop just bought that Joey was a doctor and let him drive.  And that he just confiscated Peggy's license.  It was a simpler time. 😉

I laughed out loud at Peggy's warning that if Mike woke up the baby she would beat him to death with the baby.  So wrong but so funny!

And Frankie practically blacking out in the car when his choices were to rat out his mom or lie. 😆

I was surprised when Joey recited his mother's list of lies, but I liked his reason.  And Peggy scrambling to regain control of that situation was hilarious.  "That was a tricky one... but we managed to make it to the other side."   (Or something like that.)

And the alcohol jokes.  "Drinking after the test isn't going to help me!" 😆

Okay... that's all that's coming to mind right now, but as usual it was packed with tons of funny lines.  I need to watch it again.

Edited to Add:  OMG, I totally forgot to mention all the Partridge Family stuff.  I loved that!  It took me a few moments to even realize that was the actor who played Danny.   My favorite bits were when he told Timmy to shake the pen and he had to jump and grimace in pain, jump and grimace in pain because his arm was broken.  And of course the Lassie thing mentioned above.  I also really enjoyed Timmy and William performing the Partridge Family song, as the backdrop for shenanigans.

Oh, and Joey's money-making scheme and Peggy getting the underwear back in a plastic bag.  "We spent the day paying little girls for hair and underwear."  Yikes! 😆

The jokes with the x-ray glasses were funny too!   I love the nostalgia.
