I also can't figure out how the instructorless girls think they are going to dance in the competition. They should know from experience Abby does not let anyone dance under the ALDC name without her consent. And how do they get registered? Cray cray. Another planned exception, although it looks like they may be going back to Abby after all.

Probably because these may not be completely real competitions with parts of them are staged for the show.  Maybe it's just me but did Brynn come across as a whinny little child?

Logan/Allison Contemporary: Allison needed someone who could've matched her every step of the way, because she made Logan seem not-so-good. Not the most interesting choreography.

I've wondered about whether there has been a perception on the part of some of the voting public that Allison has "carried" Logan to some extent even if it's not true.  Allison has been an absolute beast this season. She's dancing as well, if not better than she ever has.  Logan is such a small guy that it might be easy to not take one's eyes off of Mrs. Twitch.  If this is the situation, it's unfair but it is what it is.  Logan is a wonderful dancer who has a serious upside in terms of growth. I suspect that he'll do just fine.

Regarding Doriana Sanchez, I've always enjoyed her work but if Lex is injured, the producers should rethink her participation.  Can you imagine what might have happened if Lex and Koine were given a number similar to Janette and Brandon's in S5?  It's a miracle that neither of them were injured even though they just crushed the routine.

Overall, once the auditions and team selections were finished, this has been a pretty good season but, unfortunately that hasn't been reflected in the ratings.  I hope that Fox gives SYTYCD another season.  in terms of quality, it's earned it.

I think Maddie needs to get into something completely unrelated to dance if they want her to be considered a real actress. She can still dance and do dance-related stuff, but it would be good to branch out a bit.

Or maybe she should forget about the "acting" and really focus on her dancing again.  I've seen some of more recent routines and they are good.  Unfortunately she and her despicable mother have succumbed to the lure of "stardom".  It's quite sad really.

Koine is my fave but I fear for her next week.  She danced the Jive well, but putting her in sneakers is more of a Swing thing.  Dmitry should have gave them more footwork, but it was almost all lifts, which takes away from Jive.  Marco is an amazing partner, Kiki could learn from him.

I agree. The Jive was not really up the best of what you typically see on SYTYCD.  It seemed more suited for DWTS.  Dimitry sometimes comes up with lukewarm routines.  I remember when, a number of years ago, he was Mya's partner. She was the best celeb dancer that season ans should have won but Dimitry came up with a sub-standard freestyle in the finale that may have cost her the trophy.

For me, Janette was one of the best latin dancers to compete on the show.   Loved her AT.  She's now a pro on Strictly Come Dancing.

I loved Janette. She was a great dancer and was hot as all get out.  Her Doriana Sanchez choreographed disco number with Brandon is still one of the all time greats

  6. There is a lot of info out there on the net and, especially YouTube, about what's coming in the few weeks in regard to Abby Lee's departure and Cheryl Burke's arrival.  Some major changes are going to occur.

That said - Laurieann - has their number - they have forsaken dance for the opportunities and fame - which is fleeting and the moms want it more than the girls.

Although Laurieann may be almost as crazy as Abby Lee, she sure did read the ALDC culture (at least on the show) correctly.  The girls and, especially their idiot mothers, have focused way too much on chasing the fame train instead of intense dance training.  There is on thing that LAG said when she first came in that disturbed me.  "Abby Lee makes robots. I make stars" she bellowed.  It would have been better if she said "I make professional dancers who have careers in the business".  Of course the sleazebags at Collins probably would have edited that out since a hard core reality check is something that they are not interested in.  I'm eagerly awaiting to see what Cheryl Burke does with the older girls in the coming weeks.  She's a consummate pro and, hopefully, she can give these girls some candid truth about the life of a dancer.

  8. Loved the show last night.  I really liked the opener, especially since I'm a huge Sondheim fan.  My feeling is that Lex wins but that second place will be dogfight.  I can see Koine or Taylor taking second (Taylor would be cute standing there with Lex since they are a couple) but Logan has Allison at the top of her game as a partner so he could sneak in. I like Kiki a great deal as well but just can't see him acing out the others. Of course with a double elimination next week, who knows?  The only one I reasonably sure about is Kaylee.  I have to give Tice props for his choreography last night.  He came up with something that Kaylee could handle and that Cyrus did well.  I been a bit impressed with Cyrus.  Is he a good all around dancer?  No but he moves much than he did previously

I loved Lex and Taylor in the American in Paris routine. I'm old and that music and the style is totally my jam (do the kids today still say that?). They're both so young but did so well playing characters and telling the story of young love/lust/infatuation. I have to give Taylor props for dancing with those eyelashes--yikes! They looked amazing but I'm thinking her eyelid muscles must have gotten quite the workout every time she blinked.

American in  Paris is such an iconic piece of music, one  of George Gershwin's best and seeing a routine danced to it on the show was a joy.  Nothing will ever compare to the fantastic finale in the movie with Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron but this number really rode the spirit of the music and Lex and Taylor were excellent.  There was of course "The Kiss" which was nice especially since the two kids have, apparently, been a couple for some time.

That's not good at all. OTOH, I don't know what the ratings have been but SYTYCD is enjoying a renaissance season with great dancing. If DM goes down after this year, hopefully SYTYCD will survive.

Yolanda is a nutjob who rivals Christie. And a baldface liar to boot. She really did go for whatshername's throat. I thought it was ridiculous that all the moms wanted Stacey (?) just to let it go without Yolanda admitting what she had actually done. No, she didn't act in self defense and "push back" because Stacey didn't touch her. No wonder warm and fuzzy LaurieAnn has left the building.

Yolanda is an unfit parent.  Watching her poor little daughter begging her not to intercede was heartbreaking.  It wouldn't be much of a stretch to describe what Yolanda did as psychological child abuse.

I can't believe that the group routine didn't win.  Laurieann's choreography is light years beyond Abby Lee's. The "Q" routine was outstanding and more typical of what you would expect to see of advanced dance students in this age bracket.  Laurieann is probably right in her assessment of what the judges at these "competitions" want. It seems to be the typical spin and leap routines which get boring at some point.  Her stuff is way beyond that so they may never win.  Kalani's solo was also very good as was her acting and selling the number.

Here's a question for anyone here who is a dancer. dance instructor or has a kid in a dance program.  I can't imagine that most reputable dance studios push this fantasy about everyone being a star.  I know some dancers, a couple of whom have made it to Broadway.  My daughter is a Equity Stage Manager and has worked with many dancers over the past ten years and she pretty much agrees with the following.  My impression is that dancers, like musicians do what they do because they are compelled to.  Every fiber in their bodies tells them that they have to do this.  Dancers live to dance and if they're lucky, they may be able to make decent living doing it.  The concept of being a breakout star is not really in their psyche.  The other thing is that a professional dancer's shelf life may not be that long.  Two of the dancers that I know had to quit in their mid-thirties because their knees were shot.  I just think that Dance Moms has painted a very unrealistic picture of what a dancer's life is truly like.  I may be wrong and if so, please feel free to disabuse me of my assumptions.

  12. The judges were clearly setting Sydney up for the old bounceroo last night.  You could see it coming by the content and tone of their critiques.  BTW, has anyone started a drinking game for every time Vanessa says "amazing!".  To her credit she actually did make some substantive comments but she still needs to be a bit less of a cheerleader.  OHTO, the girl is gorgeous so why not.

Logan really got the expressions down in the jive. I actually watched him the whole time, not Allison.

Logan was excellent and really sold the routine but Allison wasn't exactly chopped liver.  Kudos to Emma and Sasha for their spot on choreography.

Is it just me or has Kat's Cockney/Geordie accent gotten worse?  Sometimes I need captions to understand what she's saying.

Yeah, I noticed that too at times.  Maybe Cat is auditioning for Eliza Doolittle before her transformation in My Fair Lady.

  15. Disappointed in the result.  The judges low balled Eva's scores in round one which I suspect was pre-determined.  Nevertheless, in terms of a career, Eva really was the winner.  I'll bet that there are a ton of big time studios and choreographers who can't wait to work with this kid. She's awesome at 14 years old so imagine what she'll be at 18.  I just hope that her mother is wise enough to keep Eva away from any more reality TV shows except for maybe SYTYCD if it's still on the air when she meets the age requirement (highly doubtful given its ratings performance in recent seasons).

I also hate this format a lot.  I would much prefer there be a top 20 that would have the 'random' pairings until top 10, when they are 'randomly' paired with an All Star...those were some good seasons.  I actually prefer the old school format and not have the All Stars, but that sure as hell wouldn't happen assuming the show gets another season.  I just hated how we hardly get to see any dancing on a damn dance show.  Maybe we will when we are finished with all the academy bs.

Truthfully, I'd even ditch the all-stars and return to the show's original format.  Think about the great contestant pairs that this show has seen, starting with, IMHO, the best of them all, Katee and Joshua.  There was Courtney and Gev, Twitch and Kherington, Melissa and Ade, Melanie and Marko, Nick and Melody (way back in S1), Jeannine and Jason, Pasha and Anya, Randi and Evan and so many more.  To me this was the heart and soul of the show.

I have loved the Les Twins from the start and really enjoyed their previous routines but even I thought that was not a dance routine. I know he's injured but on a purely dance form, K&M were robbed and I don't even like them that much.

Eva is amazing for her age. She will only get better from here, so I'm excited for her.

Never got the appeal of Swing Latino and I don't think I ever will.

Agreed.  I call BS on Les Twins beating K&M.  The Twins did what they usually do with maybe more emotion but K&M are a superb dance team who have come up with innovative routines every week.  Their number last night was incredible and dancing to classic Sinatra was aces.  The duel between Pombo and Igo was no contest.  Pombo is good dancer for her age and has potential. Igo is already a great dancer whose potential is unlimited if her training continues and is intense.  She was fierce last night and her control is amazing for her age.  And the topper was the million dollar smile when her routine ended. I'm picking her for the win.  Whoever is doing or helping her with choreography deserves major props.

  18. Like others have said, this academy bit and the selection process looks very contrived.  It is a TV show after all and I can't imagine that the show runners would let the All-stars do the casting.  The phony suspense about Lex is hilarious. He did star in the national tour of Billy Elliot when he was 11 years old and he appears to have some stature in the American dance community.  The comments by the All-stars among themselves are inane.  The top 10 dancing with the all-stars in rotation is OK but I still miss the pre-All-stars days when the kids all danced with each other.   The ratings for the this season so far in the key 19-49 demographic group have not been good and the viewership numbers have slipped every week.  You have to wonder how many more chances is FOX going to give the show beyond this season.

  19. Fik-shun's low scores were absurd.  His routine was  creative, emotional story telling and his use of the umbrella as different props was outstanding.  I wonder if, somehow, the fact that he had won SYTYCD played into his departure.  Maybe the thought that "you've already won a major dance competition" or "you've won a rival dance competition" entered into whatever the equation was.  TPTB/show runners will always do what's in their best interest.

Fox fucked this show up and they havent truly given a shit about the show since it failed in season 6 as a primetime show.

This is just not the show I fell in love with years ago. This is the show people should have been watching in droves. Not American idol. But, it's time has come and gone. Losing top 20, losing a results show, the fucking all stars, losing the old stage. None of it was for the positive. Almost time for me to let it go.

Ah, the forgettable Season Six won by Russell Ferguson a "krumper" who they neglected to tell us studied at Boston Arts Academy and then majored in dance at Philadelphia's University of the Arts.  That season was so meh that there wasn't even a tour after it ended.   Seasons 7 -11 were excellent with a variety of great dancers in each of them. The wheels came off the wagon in Season 12 with its street vs. stage format and then, of course, there was the Season 13 kiddies fest.  I had high hopes for this season but the Academy/Teams format has not been properly explained and the hands of the TPTB in the selection process seem pretty obvious.  SYTYCD was on death's door after S12, made a colossal error in judgement with S13 and even, with yet another chance at survival, has not, so far,  sold the product very well.  The All-stars are great dancers (mostly) but they don't have the star power the carry this show.  Hopefully things will significantly improve once the live rounds start.

He had rather abruptly and coldly dumped his girlfriend out of the blue.

????? Why is that germane?  The girlfriend was none other than a slightly salty Jasmine Harper, who also qualified as a competitor that same season.  She happened to be a MUCH more skilled all around dancer, and still didn't manage to make it as far as he did in the season, IMO largely because of the generous critiques and edit Cyrus received.

I vaguely recall something with Cyrus and Jasmine and Nigel being wildly inappropriate when referencing it but to me the real drama was that week after week Cyrus clod hopped his way through almost any genre other than his own and that the judges just gushed over him.  It was very frustrating to see superb dancers bounced every week so that Cyrus could continue on.  The judges naked attempt to stack the deck was very distasteful.  Cyrus ultimately finishing ahead of the brilliant Cole Horibe was a joke. We had always been faithful fans of the show but that situation was a real turn off.     Thankfully the season was redeemed when Eliana  and Chehon  ended up winning.

  22. Like others I felt that the inclusion of Cyrus was a joke.  He went way too far in his season and was absurdly pimped by the judges every week.  As I recall when he had to dance other styles, the choreography had to be dumbed down.  Fiction, on the other hand, turned out to be good at most other styles and his partnership with Amy was outstanding.   Comfort, while she didn't necessarily excel at styles other than Hip Hop, nevertheless, did pretty well. Those who make it to the teams have tough choices.  Do they stick with a mentor who works in the same style or go with one who might help them raise their game in "alien" dance styles.  Kevin, in going with Allison, took the latter path.

Air Traffic Controllers have seen pigs on their screens and hell has frozen over!  I was surprised that Jabbawockeez lost but, truthfully, from a pure dance standpoint, Young Lions were not outclassed and may have been a smidge more interesting and entertaining.  I am really enjoying World of Dance.  J-Lo and the show runners have done a nice job on this one.

  24. It looks like the show is going to be loaded with contemporary and ballroom dancers, to me a good thing.  The venue that the NY auditions are being held in is the old Lowes Kings movie theater in Brooklyn  My high school graduation ceremony was held there way, way back in 1966. It was a classic theater back then and from what I can see, it still is.  Small world, no?
