I just checked that and if the news articles are correct, it was just a one-night production of a show, and she quit because there was a requirement for all participants to be vaccinated.  It also said  that all Broadway productions are requiring full vaccinations for all.   She says she and her husband consulted with a physician (?) and are still thinking about whether to vaccinate.  Well, okay.

That said, the promos are up for that Fall movie she is in -- obviously Hallmark doesn't have the vaccination requirements that Broadway does.  This new one concerns wine makers (Formula story #27), with a hero from Argentina.  How does this movie look to y'all?  I'm unexcited.

Thanks for the correction, both of you. And Chippings, I asked about Hallmark because I assumed she filmed her movie before vaccine mandates became a thing. I guess we'll see. I wasn't excited by the preview for her movie either.

I started re-watching Stone House Revival again. I really loved that show. Restoring houses to what they were historically is really interesting to me and you could tell the host was really into it. I also liked Restored.

I was just going to post about Stone House Revival thinking that I am the only one who watches. I saw the first season while visiting family initially but couldn't keep up with it because I didn't get the channel in my cable package. I recently got Sling, have the channel, and the show has returned with new episodes. I really enjoy it. The eps could be longer, but I also love seeing these old homes restored or renovated to fit the original history. That time period already interests me, my parents actually live in Bucks County (where most of it is filmed), and it's nice to see homeowners who clearly love their homes and the history and want to bring out the full potential.

  3. I also liked that it purposely pointed out a lot of Hallmark patterns. Like the lead actor commenting on there being a mix-up and only one room for two people and how that's like a romantic cliche. I forget his exact wording. Someone else mentioned the scene with innuendo - I thought there was actually more than one scene with that. And even her wearing the nicer pajamas expecting him to stop by her room (though they weren't exactly sexy pajamas).

And I also thought I spotted some tongue during the final kiss.

ETA: I liked this movie more than I expected to. The commercials did it no favors.

  4. Just watched this for the first time with a free trial of Sundance Now. I enjoyed it mostly for the friendship. Really loved all of the core characters/actors, particularly Aidan, Sally, and Josh. I actually saw a lot of romantic chemistry between Aidan and Sally from very early on, and I thought they were going to get together sooner after the first time they were able to touch/held each other's hands. It's funny that someone mentioned how awkward it was for the actors once they did get together, because they did seem to have slightly less chemistry then. But I still love them together.

You beat me to it, I was about to comment this as well.  I'm at the point where beautiful scenery + charismatic (and different!) leads = I love it.

Plus lack of dumb misunderstanding 15 minutes before the end. I was so relieved when he overheard her purpose for being there right at the very start.

Like in Bridal Wave, a movie I love.  The bride is going to wear her mother's (Orlon) dress.  There is some backstory about her mother not wearing her own dress, or not having a wedding or something too boring to remember.  The mother's dress is hideous!  When the mother-in-law offers to buy her a Vera Wang dress, even the groom comments on how much nicer it would be.  The bride ends up not getting married but her parents renew their vows and sure enough, the mother wears her own dress, which is still hideous and makes me wonder how the bride was going to wear it as they are nowhere near the same size.  When the bride finally does marry a year later (to Andrew Walker!) I think the dress she is wearing is her mother's dress as well.  Now that her mother has worn it, that should have been the excuse she needed to buy her own dress.  Though given that the groom wore flip-flops I guess an ugly dress fits right in.

At least in that case, she was choosing that dress because it was her mother's. There have been numerous other movies where the lead chose a brand new dress, in a store, with other better options, that was butt ugly and not at all flattering, and they somehow wanted us to think they would actually go for the worst dress.

  7. Even before hearing them talk about it on Deck the Hallmark, I was already planning to comment superficially on how awful Cara's chosen dress was. The one she tried on before it was much better, and luckily, so was her mother's. Good thing Ben's sister messed up. They seem to frequently choose an ugly dress in these movies.

Jesse Metcalfe is leaving Chesapeake Shores but will continue to appear in Hallmark movies, including his HMM Martha's Vineyard Mysteries movies.  This is in contrast to Daniel Lissing who completely disappeared from the channel after leaving When Calls The Heart.

I could be remembering wrong, but I thought Daniel Lissing did do one movie for the channel after leaving When Calls The Heart before he disappeared. Interestingly, when the Deck the Hallmark guys interviewed him, he said he was willing to come back and do another movie with them.

  9. I haven't watched this show since Jack was killed off (or maybe I watched a few episodes after to see if I could still be interested and I wasn't). But I've seen the commercial for the next episode while watching the movies. I think I've figured out the names, and my guess is Elizabeth will pick the mountie, Nathan, after all. In the quick shot of the scene where Lucas goes to kiss her, it looks like she's about to pull back. Not a good sign.

  10. I watched the show recently. I really liked it. I'd love for there to be a second season, but I'm trying not to get my hopes up considering Netflix hasn't renewed it at this point. They should considering that I saw something today about them needing to have more shows with Latinx casts. The young actors are so talented, with the acting and the music. Makes my 35 y.o. old lady self feel untalented and old, lol.

I liked this way more than the second one. I thought this was much better paced and thought out. I liked that we saw Peter and Lara Jean as a cute couple in this one and reminded us why we root for them.

I loved that they went against type and Peter was super supportive of Lara Jean even if he was upset. He’s entitled to be upset since he was fully invested in Lara Jean going to Stanford, then pivoted to her going to Berkeley, and then she tells him she has to go to New York. But he doesn’t get angry and knows that he can’t hold her back and tries to go with it.

Everything surrounding them was really fun to watch.

This was a great send off for a popular trilogy.

P.S: Lana Condor is a damn revelation and she better have a massive career where she’s front and center. She carried this series with ease and charm and depth. She made Lara Jean easy to root for and not exasperating (as the book kind of makes her at times). She made this series!

Agree with all of this. And love Lana's facial expressions. She's great.

I think that was One Royal Holiday and one of the examples I railed at a few pages ago about a daughter who had to do everything exactly the way her mother did it before she died 20 years ago in order to honour her memory, only to find that her mother really wasn't that rigid and would have loved to switch things up.  The fact that the father apparently had a closet full of gowns that his grown daughter knew nothing about was a little weird and I too wondered how everyone was able to come up with a gown, shoes, and jewellery and get their hair done with short notice.

EyewatchTV211, you were right about Betting on the Bride.  I literally watched 5 minutes of it and saw the whole interaction between the guys about whether or not he had yet found his target, and the girl trying to give the engagement ring back to the guy who told her to hang on to it because she might change her mind.  Now there is one glaring difference - the jilted guy in this movie is a florist/landscaper and the guy in A Bride for Christmas was a plumber.

They changed a few of the details, but there was dialogue that was the same or close and the major storylines were exactly the same. 🤦‍♀️

Well, I guess you could say it was resolved quickly once she finally challenged him on it?  I agree it was frustrating to watch but eminently watchable anyway.

Why is there a movie called Betting on the Bride, which sounds exactly the same as A Bride for Christmas?  I was all set to PVR another Andrew Walker/Arielle Kebbel movie only to find that it is not that movie.

Don't watch the other movie. It's almost a carbon copy of A Bride for Christmas with lower quality actors and everything else lower quality. And I'm not kidding about almost carbon copy. I think I had pointed it out when I saw it and someone said it was the same writer? So maybe was asked to redo it for some other place for some reason. I forget. It was crazy, though.

I am also a W channel watcher.  This is really my first year for watching Christmas movies so haven't heard of a lot of the movies discussed here but agree that some of this year's movies were on every time you turned on the tv (anything with Lacey Chabert) while some of them got only one airing.

You saying this, along with your previous post, is actually kind of funny. You referenced there not being many movies from this year that you would re-watch and listed those that you would. I think many of us longer-time Hallmark Christmas movie watchers would actually say that the amount you listed is a lot for one year, lol. Especially more recently. I like the same ones and would probably even add a few more to it. In past years, there were way fewer movies worth re-watching. If you decide to continue to watch in the future, you may have to lower your expectations further. Though maybe we will be pleasantly surprised moving forward, especially with the new leadership.

Seems like The Good Doctor is becoming more and more like a Hallmark Channel reunion. Every week there’s an actor that I’ve seen regularly on a Hallmark movie. This week it was Kristoffer Polaha. I wonder if the casting directors of both have something in common.

Looks like The Good Doctor is filmed in Canada. I can usually tell when a show is filmed in Canada when I start to see a lot of the Hallmark actors on the show. So far, my predictions seem to be accurate. That likely explains it.

  16. Just finished New Tricks. After watching eps quickly, I tried to slow down towards the end so it wouldn't end. I enjoyed it. Interestingly, it seemed that both this show and Shakespeare & Hathaway

    Spoiler

got a bit darker/more serious than the shows started, though New Tricks definitely had it's darker moments early on, too. It just seemed to also have more lightness and humor mixed in. I will say the final season seemed to try to bring some of it back. The newer retirees slowly grew on me, but I also missed the original team.

With Shakespeare & Hathaway, there were some episodes in the first two seasons that involved mysteries without murder, or ended up having surprising happy endings. That seemed to change this last season, although the characters stayed silly. Even Hathaway started dressing all professionally instead of like his usual self.

I'm English (though I do have an Irish passport) and I've never seen it before. I obviously know the song - and I can't stand it - but I've never seen anyone do that dance.

In searching for a video, I actually found a video of the 1996 DNC convention with people doing the Macarena and shows of Hillary Clinton during the song (it says she is dancing to it but she isn't really). I would post that one, but they're random clips of people and it doesn't really go with the right parts of the song. Just a funny connection to this show. But here's the dance:

I'll add the Electric Slide to that list of dances that made people run to the dance floor at American parties! I actually haaaaaate the Electric Slide but when you're at someone's Sweet 16 birthday party and their mom pulls you by the arm, you just have to give in and do it.

Yes, Electric Slide is definitely another! And later on, the Cha Cha Slide.

The show is not necessarily following the established timeline of events.  Bill Clinton did visit Derry in November 1995, but the show has him visiting in the summer.

I'm sure the show does switch around some timelines to help with stories, but I thought they showed Christmas decorations when they had the Bill Clinton episode. So that part might have been correct, if I am remembering the episode accurately.

Add me as another American (grew up in New Jersey) who has never heard of the "Rock the Boat" dance. Admittedly, I didn't go to many weddings. The big dance at the bar/bat mitzvahs that I attended (and I think weddings, too) was "The Macarena" dance. Those of you from Ireland - did you do The Macarena?

I was just bathing in this ideal world where people are evaluated for the hotness of their face and not the color of their skin.

This part made me LOL. And not sure if you were purposely referencing this (I think you were), but timely with MLK Jr.'s birthday:

“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” - or your version "“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the hotness of their faces."
