A pair of senior citizens stumbling around slurring for an ENTIRE EPISODE?

Not sure what their age had to do with it. Rhetorical questions: would the episode have been better if it had been Summer and Chance? Heather and Daniel? Lily and Devon? Claire and Kyle? Aria and Harrison?

At least Jordan didn't show up disguised as a housekeeper.

  2. More musings on today's Y&R:

I think Jack must have a hero complex, where he thinks his power is his crisp diction. Trying to talk sense into a drunk person is like conversing with the radio, even if you enunciate ev.er.y sin.gle syl.la.ble.

Me 25 minutes in: is this entire episode devoted to Nikki and Jack? Ehhh, it's a 36-minute Emmy reel for two soap vets. (And of course JG will submit it for writing and directing. ๐Ÿคจ)

๐ŸŽถThey need to make her go to rehab, but she'll say, "No, no, no!".๐ŸŽถ

I see you, JG, giving us a bottle episode which contained a lot of bottles. <chuckle>

  3. Sober her up? Jack, it should be clear you don't have the skills necessary to make that happen. At this point Nikki is still a dry drunk even when she's not actively chugging vodka.

Geez, now Jack has to call housekeeping because the glass bottle Nikki smashed on the floor can't pick up itself. Plus, getting a sliver of glass is your foot is hella dangerous.

Drunk Nikki's got jokes. PB did used to play a doctor on TV, tee hee.

Jack could've had housekeeping take the bottles of vodka when they came to clean up the broken glass, no?

Jack called his old dope dealer! Oh damb! Seriously though, what would it accomplish for Jack to throw away his own sobriety from pain killers just hoping to shock and guilt Nikki?

Apparently Nikki did not know about Jack's former struggles with narcotics. Huh.

Wait, what? Why was Jack's dope delivery in a neat baggie of tablets? That must be the fancy way illegal drug drops are done. The rubes just get some folded up wax paper full of loose powder for direct snorting. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Hmm, methinks Jackie palmed those tablets instead of swallowing them. They were probably filled with powdered sugar anyway.

And then Jack pretended to pass out after he called to give somebody a heads up. Diane? Lauren? Victor?

My only other soapy DID experience was Carrie Todd on GL ages ago.ย  I remember it being pretty well done (Doug Marland was writing at the time, but the story ended abruptly when he left).ย  Carrie had distinct personalities, and I don't think they knew what the others were doing.

I didn't much watch GL and am not familiar with their DID storyline. However, I think Erica Slezak,ย  formerly of OLTL, set the standard on soap opera portrayals of DID. She won six Daytime Emmys, a record she still holds. (And that was back when winning a Daytime Emmy actually meant something and it wasn't little more than a participation trophy.)

On OLTL, grande dame Victoria Lord had six alters, including a young teenaged boy and a manifestation of her evil father who had sexually abused her as a child. Josh Griffith was a writer on OLTL for some of their DID stuff so former viewers of that soap might be recognizing his handiwork here on Y&R.

So it sucks to be Jack, who is the main reason she won $500 million!

Coming back to this, I had completely forgotten Jack was the one who put Abby up on game regarding her Newman trust fund. That storyline wasn't working for me because waaah, rich kids mad because they don't get to be richer with zero effort. And then Victoria and Nick jumped on the bandwagon so they could snatch their trust funds too. I was glad Abby triumphed though because AFAIC it's aways nice when Victor is defeated.

What's odd to me though is how Victor, Jack, and Devon are the only people considered to be billionaires. Seems to me at least Abby and Victoria should have invested well enough to have grown their $500M inheritances to a billion or more. Nick made a big production of giving most of his money away to charity so he's likely scraping by with only a few hundred milion. ๐Ÿ™„

Oh, I just really wanted to say something mean about Nick. I can't imagine Abby ever having anything against Jack. (At least not unless Abby finds out not one of the Abbotts told her Ashley had gone off the rails, or Jordan had kidnapped her cousin Kyle's kid right out of the family home.)

Thanks, I'd already edited my post.

I also tend to get "Nick" and "Nate" mixed up even though those two characters couldn't be more dissimilar. Ow, my head. ๐Ÿ˜ตโ€๐Ÿ’ซ

Maybe the Daytime Emmys should consider starting a Best Comedic Performance category. I don't see ED winning for straight drama because this stuff with the alters reads as campy to me. Plus, ditto comments upthread, I think next year's Best Actress award is MTS' to lose.

  8. More musings on today's Y&R:

Abby said Billy is her favorite uncle. Sucks to be you, Nick. ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

    I liked Nikki's blouse.

Alan was careful to tell Belle yesterday that he no longer has a license to practiceย  psychotherapy. So today when he was casually analyzing her it didn't seem ethical to me.

Looks like the Ms. Abbott alter is about to fcuk everybody's sh!t up, starting with Alan. The Abbott's are going to wish they'd 5150'd Ashley they still had the element of surprise to their advantage.

If anyone's taking a survey, in my big metro area I get 75 - 100 channels via a basic TV antenna, depending on the weather. Cloudy and rainy days don't do so great. (Which was also a problem when I had a satellite TV subscription.)

ETA: it does suck to be Nick but I momentarily forgot he's Abby's brother, not her uncle. nm

  9. If if it's Wednesday Devon must be giving somebody the 3rd degree. Batter up, Nate.

Nikki getting her drunk on to celebrate Jordan's "death." What the what? Seems to me that would've finally been the reason for Nik to stop boozing.

    Hi Alan! Meet Jack! ๐Ÿฅณ

Brave of Nate to offer real talk to Devon about the dramaz at C-W since lately Devon ain't trying to hear anything but "Billy must go!"

Ehh, Abby, carrying Devon's gripes to your Uncle Billy behind his back is not the way you want to go. Devon will likely take it as disloyalty or undermining when he finds out.

So Belle doesn't have access to Ashley's memories. Hmm. Alan sure cut through all her bluster with that stuff about his and Ashley's experiences in Paris.

Wow, DreamVictor was being hella jerkish to DreamDrunkNikki. DreamVictoria and DreamNick came on like rabid wolves too. Poor Nikki must've been drinking rotgut vodka instead of the top shelf stuff. Yikes!

But Billy, Jill hasn't asked you to fight Devon on her behalf. You're just using that as a false excuse to take over her company. Shut up.

And then Phillip Chancellor IV--IMO the true heir to Chancellor empire--showed up. Nate immediately switched sides from Devon to Chance, lol. These guys are cracking me up with their silly corporate games.

Jack basically told Alan dealing with Ashley these days was like eating a bag of M&Ms one by one. You never which color you're gonna get, tee hee.

OMG!!!!!! Now Ms. Abbott is outside of Ashley's head! I'm scared! ๐Ÿ˜‰

FFS, Devon. Go ahead, take your Hamilton/Winters ball and go home. Your threats aren't winning.

TMW you're staggering around almost blackout drunk and you run into your sponsor. Gosh, Nikki. Hopefully Jack will do the right thing instead of continuing to enable you.

So I guess Victor had this secret room with the jail cell built when he had the Raunch rebuilt after Sharon burnt it down?ย  Did he keep it secret by having the workers killed and their remains interred in the walls?ย

Heh, what I'm wondering is if no one but Victor is allowed to go get wine. Say the Newman chef wants to use a vintage to cook with. Does he have to ask Victor to bring up a bottle? Or is the jail cell blocked by a fake wall when it's vacant? Yeesh, the idea of anyone keeping a jail cell in their home for random use is insane even by soap opera standards.

I love Traci but, not today.ย  There are times, Buttercup, when laughter isn't the best medicine, so having the giggles while talking to Dr.ย Champs-ร‰lysรฉes might not convey the proper tone?

While watching Traci's scenes with Alan I wondered if she was lowkey flirting with him. I don't think she and Ashley have circled the same man since Brad Carlton, have they?

    Quote

Please tell me that at least Victor has started thinking thereโ€™s more to Claireโ€™s story than sheโ€™s saying? Sheโ€™s got Victoria eating out of her hand but Victor looked suspicious.

Yep, he looked skeptical to me too, for a moment at least.

I daydream a lot, so I think I missed Claire explain who the dead woman was?ย

She didn't explain it. Based on what I've since read elsewhere, allegedly it was Jordan's accomplice who helped her lug Claire's chloroformed body out of the Abbott manse. Claire woke up as she was being put in the storage unit and the woman died as a result of the fight she had with Claire. Meanwhile, Jordan was at the NoTell Motel with Harrison.

  11. More musings on today's episode:

How long ago was Victoria last with Billy? Her immediately remembering those storage unit keys was a stretch to me. (Good thing I didn't place my bet on what those keys were for. Oops! ๐Ÿฅด)

I don't understand why Diane was grilling Ashley. What did she hope to accomplish? Ashley hates her and Diane's gloating wasn't going to change that.

If Alan can afford to be an expat in Paris one would think he wouldn't be so impressed by a first class plane ticket.

Sigh, today's Y&R was a panorama of poorly pasted-over plot holes to me.

    Quote

Are we taking bets on how long Jordan will be in the cage? At the rate they're going, I expect her to be out by next Tuesday. If that long. Show should keep her in the cage for at least six months. But it doesn't seem like Josh's attention span can last that long.

At the rate this mess has been going I expect Jordan to be getting taunting visits from Victor for at least another month. Tomorrow will begin the May sweeps period and shows like Y&R typically want to try to attract new viewers by having their characters do compelling stuff. (๐Ÿ™„) JG seems good at keeping multiple plates spinning at the same time by recycling the dialogue. Another few weeks of Jordan's supervillain b.s. would be light work for him.

  12. Traci's powers of persuasion must be impressive to get Ashley's therapist friend to make an ersatz housecall across an ocean and half a continent. Hi, Alan!

Interesting how Belle can tone down the Southern accent at will. I thought sure Diane was onto her at the coffeehouse but maybe not.

Yeah, if that doll where the keys were hidden was indeed Jordan's IMO it's extra absurd the crime scene investigators glossed over it and left it there.

So Ashley realizing the fight with Tucker didn't happen the way she thought is what triggered the DID. Ehhh. Fragile much?

Victor had a easy chair in front of the wine cellar jail like he was going to watch a show on TV or something. And enjoy a lovely glass of vino. This guy.

Ugh, who was that dead person on Claire in the storage unit? I thought that was a needlessly macabre detail to add to the moment.

Lol, Diane must've speed-raced Ashley back to the Abbott manse. But wait, what? Diane knew she was talking to an alter back at the coffee shop?

Tea, Victoria? How about a doctor? Claire had been drugged, cooped in a dank storage unit with a corpse, and likely hadn't eaten for days. Bad mommy!

For a second Victor looked a tad skeptical of Claire's story. Right there with you, Victor. Too convenient to me.

Hmm, did Abby know she was talking to Belle? Surely she noticed how much her mommy didn't seem like her usual self.

KMN. Lauren and Michael mentioned that person from B&B who's supposed to be dead. Don't do it, JG/CBS. Leave her in L.A., dead or alive.

Jordan, I am totally over you. AFAIC you no longer serve a storyline purpose. How much longer will this drag out????!!!!

when she took one of those ghastly GCAC rooms, to drink herself into oblivion -- did she not think Vic was gonna be calling after her? ย

Yeah, I couldn't understand what her plan was. Nikki's not going to be able to go home drunk and if she doesn't go home Victor will wonder where she is. Does he still have a bodyguard on her or has that stopped since he has Jordan locked up and thinks the threat is over?

    Quote

Why does she have to keep going in Tucker/Audra's boring orbit when she has a whole daughter she's yet to interact with? I'd much rather see that. Apparently that's the only way Abby is gonna find out her mother is unwell, as no one can be bothered with telling her.ย  ย

The way Abby is isolated from both her Abbott and Newman families is so odd to me. She should definitely know about Ashley's mental issues and I can't figure out why none of the Abbotts have told her, especially Traci.

On the Jordan front, Abby should have been told about her so she and Devon could take extra steps to protect Dominic. What if Jordan had decided to snatch Dom instead of Harrison? Or what if Jordan had decided to grab Abby since she's Victor's daughter? It doesn't make sense.

  14. More musings on today's episode:

Not sure why Michael needed to be involved in a discussion about a dropped phone call which may or may not have been from Claire. It's not a legal issue unless Claire was in on Harrison's kidnapping.

I liked Summer's faux leather shirt dress but AFAIC it was not a springtime outfit. As the head of an international fashion house, one would think Summer would stick to seasonal fabrics and colors.

Wonder what the GCAC staff think when they see society maven Nikki Newman checking into a room alone in the middle of the day? Maybe that was the NE corporate suite and she was able to bypass the GCAC front desk.

Connor mentioned he has dissociations. Does that mean he'll have alters too, like Ashley? (Elsewhere, I've seen speculation that the kid "Mike" who Connor spoke of today is an imaginary friend.)

Victoria said she recognized the keys she and Cole found in packed inside the creepy doll. I'm gonna put down a bet those are keys to Victor's wine cellar/jail cell. Then Vik and Cole will find Jordan and a fresh hell will begin.

Btw, I really hope Ashley loses that ugly dress cuz I'm sick of looking at that hideous thing.ย  Oh please don't tell me some idiot stylist is gonna put her in another awful red thing whenever she's in her Ashley O'Hara personality.

Mileage definitely varies because I'm pretty much enjoying Ashley's adventures in DID. I think it's funny. The only thing that's bothered me is not having a definite way to distinguish the alters, especially whenever one of them is pretending to be the main Ashley. But I saw recently on the CC that they have different names so if I pay attention to that it's less confusing:

    The alters
    Mean Ashley = Mrs. Abbott
    Southern belle Ashley = Belle
    Teen Ashley = Ash

    Quote

Ugh, show, please make this tired storyline end, or at least make an effort to create more interesting personalities that ED is able to act.ย  Guess that's not possible?

ED's performance is fine for me. I don't think she's trying to act like a Southern belle or a teenager, I think ED is acting like Ashley would if she were trying to look like a Southern belle or a teenager. Ashley has no point of reference for either of those types of people except maybe from what she's seen on TV or in movies. IMO, that's why the portrayals are iffy; they're not meant to be anything close to accurate.

Also, I see Mrs. Abbott, the mean alter, as an actual side of Ashley's personality that she feels she can't show. Ashley's either held her back because of other people's expectations of the way Ashley should behave, or she has to restraint herself because of potential repercussions. (Like you might want to hit or murder somebody but you don't because you're not trying to go to jail/prison.)

She sure did play a good bitch, at least on Y&R. Dina was the type who in a lovely way could tell you to go eff yourself and you'd thank her. Then hours later you'd realize what she actually meant. We don't see many characters written with that kind of subtlety anymore.

  17. The previews shown today:

Cole is fiddling with a doll while Victoria is looking on. It probably does have something to do with Claire.

But, given way JG has been dragging out the Jordan and Claire storyline, I didn't automatically jump to the conclusion that this time next week the audience would know much more about Claire's status or whereabouts than they do now. That's why I wondered if further details had been posted as a spoiler elsewhere. Sorry for the confusion.

  19. Wait, Ashley wasn't doing the Southern belle accent.

Oh, okay, belle Ashley was pretending to be main Ashley. Oy, keeping track of all these Ashleys is giving me agita!

Not a fan of Mariah's dress. IMO the color of that tiger print didn't compliment her skin tone or hair color.

It's something the way Audra's makeup stays perfect while she's having a romp in bed with Tucker. One of them must be slacking, lol.

Traci, you're still not the boss of Ashley. Ease up with the nagging.

Tucker zoomed right in on Ashley's new alter. Let's go!

If it's Friday, Devon must acting like a whiny billionaire biatch. He's probably right about Billy though.

Why is belle Ashley calling Tucker "daddy issue"? She doesn't know Audra like that.

Tucker, stop wasting your time trying to reason with Traci. She tends to think her view is the only correct one. And all the Abbotts believe you did something sinister to Ashley's psyche.

So teen Ashley's "gone," replaced by belle Ashley. Oh no.

"That's not gonna be hard at all." AFAIC, whoever wrote that line--said in the context it was--should feel very ashamed. Other double entendres are pointing and laughing at it.

Billy working Lily through fond memories of his kids. Don't fall for his schmoozing, Lily!

As if, Tucker. No one in GC would be coming to your big fantasy wedding to Audra. No one besides Ashley's alters.

  20. ^^^It would be more like if Elaine Benes said it to Summer:

Regarding the IRL story of the missing Australian baby, 30+ years later a bit of the child's clothing was found buried near a dingo lair. DNA tests proved the blood on the clothing was indeed the baby's. Her mother had served several years in prison for murder before the evidence was found and she was released. Later she was officially pardoned and the Australian government paid her over a million dollars in compensation.

Heh, I think the best we're going to see on Y&R is Jordan convicted of murder and kidnapping, and Victor at least charged with kidnapping. <fingers crossed>

  21. A few more musings on yesterday's (Thursday) episode:

This Jordan is dead story has to be backed by the law enforcement authorities, right? I wonder how Victor got them to agree to pretend she's lost in the river? Or is he b.s.-ing them too?

And how did Victor get chloroformed Jordan from the alley in town out to the ranch? He had to have had help, from his security people I guess?

If Victor's been following Nikki surely he's seen her tipping back her flask of vodka. But he doesn't act like knows she's still drinking. Not sure why he'd be humoring her when what she's doing is so dangerous.

The Y& R wardrobe staff must've gotten a good deal on stretchy jeans/jeggings. Victoria, Summer, and Diane have been wearing them the past few days.

  22. Phyllis trying to make Harrison's kidnapping all about herself. Of course.

Cole the wannabe domestic goddess, working his way back to Victoria's heart through her tummy. Hmm.

Okay, I thought it was poignant moment when Summer was reassuring Harrison she and Kyle still loved him. But geez, enough with the Emmy bait for AL.

"That Jordan broad." Oh, Victor, never change. You can't call your wife Nikki by her name but you don't seem to run out of ways to refer to Jordan.

I kinda agree with Phyllis on one thing: it is odd that Summer or Nick didn't tell her about Harrison's kidnapping or Jordan's long reign of terror against the Newmans.

So Victor made up a story about Jordan falling off a bridge to get Nikki to stop going after Jordan. He better produce a body though. Soon.

Good grief, did we need another whole scene for Phyllis and Nick to prop Summer in her absence? Hey you two! Your StuporGirl is a loon who's fixated on another woman's child.

At first I was surprised Victor also lied to Jack about Jordan dying but he probably realized that if Jack knew the truth he'd eventually tell Nikki.

Whoa, Jordan's in Victor's old cellar jail. He must've been feeling nostalgic. ๐Ÿ™„

From the mouths of babes. What now, Summer? Are you going to browbeat little Harrison too about how Claire is the devil's disciple?

If the call at the end of the episode was from Claire, hopefully Victoria's phone is being monitored by law enforcement and/or Victor's crack security team. Nah, that'd be too easy. This nightmare has to drag on forever. ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ˜ฑ
